When I say "we", I am referring to the U.S.A. Not any other nations, although other nations can be brought up in this discussion.

Are we a Christian nation? Most would say "yes", we are. But why? Is it because the majority of Americans claim to be Christians? Well then, if this is so, why not call America a white nation? A female nation? Does the majority define a country? I'd hate to think so. Discuss. Thanks for your time.

I think that it's wrong to label a nation after one belief, when it contains several.

Actually, i'm thinking its because of the majority. That's why the UAE is Muslim, Israel is a Jewish nation and places like Burma, Thailand and Indonesia are Buddhist countries. I have never heard America being called the Christian Nation though..

Wrong or not, you cannot change what outsiders think. America may not be a "christian" nation, but all of its leaders were Christians.

It's pretty obvious that the U.S. is not, and was never intended to be a Christian nation.

True. And also when there are efforts to keep that label valid just for the sake of it. Even though its a wrong label in the first place.

No because Iran is officially a Muslim nation, they call themselves an Islamic Republic and much of their legal system is directly based on Sharia Law.

Yes, every founding father was Christian to some extent. There was also major prejudices against athiests in the Senate in the 1860's (Senators would vetoe the bills of a certain man who was atheist purposefully. And those were just RUMOURS he was atheist). Its in the history books.

So we should keep things as intolerant as they used to be? Maybe a straw man but dont you think that enforcing such a label is like giving the opportunity of some people to use it in favor of Christianity in many many ways?

I'm interested to know how you're spending your life.

Well, everyday I write articles about the state of society, and publish them on my own local website. I work with a group of like-minded folks, and we are working towards one day purchasing television time on a major television network to hold a debate against some well know politicians, so we can expose them for the frauds they are in front of the whole world Stay tuned. I'm not a slave like you. Thanks.

Look, I'm an atheist too, but that's not the way you spread your message.

The most influential founding fathers were mostly deists. And if you want to look at the 19th century, Abraham Lincoln was a huge Thomas Paine fan.

Of course there is, was, and has been a degree of Christian influence in the government. Every single president has been Christian. A huge majority of senators have been Christian. Christianity is everywhere in the U.S government, from its pledge to its anthem.

That's 2 centuries then. Plural.

A couple of centries isn't usually reffered to as "centuries" though, it would be reffered to as 200 years or a "couple of centuries"
