It's time to stop trying to arrest this traitor, and seriously consider terminating him before he hands over something that gets people killed.

ad1x2

Right now a large portion of America has him on a pedestal due to exposing the NSA programs. Unless he openly leaks battle plans, military weaknesses, or anything that would aid a large attack against American civilians to al Qaeda and North Korea I could see massive riots happening if he "dies" anytime between now and when he is a hundred.

A little bad PR over Snowden's death is preferable to any additional damage he can cause, up to and including the deaths of undercover operatives and their families.

God damn, we're reaching that point of power and age where we're becoming extremely paranoid that anyone and anything could become a threat to the United States' reputation as a superpower, so we're spying on others and crushing any opposition that gets in the way, no matter how insignificant.

We'll tear ourselves apart from the inside as the citizens become fed up with a government that can't even trust themselves.

People here saying that Snowden needs to be taken out make me want to throw up.  He is a whistleblower, plain and simple.  He's just a very well-informed and fearless one.  The more illegal activities that he uncovers, the better.  A government that does this kind of crap doesn't deserve respect.

He stopped being a whistleblower when he blabbed to the foreign press. He became a flat-out traitor when he leaked US intelligence-gathering techniques to a foreign power. Stop defending him.

If that is what it takes to blow a whistle these days, then so be it. Maybe a bit of peer pressure will cut the attitude down to size.

The intelligence gathering techniques Snowden told people about are illegal in terms of international law. His alerting the world to them should be considered a good act because the repercussions of the world knowing about the United States' actions will most likely include a great change in the manner in which its government operates both poth publicly and privately. I pray for the safety of those put in danger by the recent events and I also demand change in my government because it is damaging foreign relations and the trust its citizens put in it.

We're talking a lot more than bad PR. A lot of people have openly threatened to riot if Snowden dies and they even suspect that the US Government assassinated him. Not to mention there may be thousands of government employees who may be targeted by rioters. The Rodney King riots killed 53 people and that was with King being on parole for robbery and was drinking and driving while fleeing the police. No telling how much worse it would be if a supposed whistleblower who committed no other known crimes was killed.

We are at a point with Snowden where he is practically untouchable by us. While his leaks may have damaged US operations in ways that the government can't admit due to the full damage effects being classified, most people don't care because they are more concerned about their privacy and don't compare Snowden to people who have done obvious damage such as selling military plans to the enemy. Anything negative we pull up on him (to include threats to release the names of agents) is being dismissed as a smear campaign to get the public off of his side.

In answer to you all:

Riots: So? A few people die of doing something stupid. I weighed against the lives of intelligence assets and their families, and I say sacrifice the rioters.

International law: what "international law?" Show me the governing body that supercedes any nation's sovereignty. Then explain why US bugging of foreign governments is somehow more heinous than what some of these dictators have done to their people, which this fictional body has done nothing about.

Treasomn is defined as giving aid and comfort to the enemy. What Snowden has done has given our enemies in al Qaeda and Afghanistan our intelligence-gathering methods and damaged diplomatic relations with other nations. It's not "whistle blowing" anymore. Kill him before he does any more damage.

if he released simultaneously that everyone was spying on one another I could see that as whistleblowing. the prism thing definite whistle blowing just confirming something in detail the american people should have known. revealing the secrets of only one nation of something that every single country with the capability does just so they can be blamed for it that to me is the marks of a traitor

International law supercedes national sovereignty at the discretion of a nation like the United States. It was wrong of me to say "law" when it is actually more conventional to say treaty. In this situation, international treaties are in use by the United Nations to prevent acts of espionage against its members. Both France and Germany are part of the United Nations as well as the United States. America has violated the tangible trust in the form of written treaties. You are mistaken in thinking any positive scenario could result from executing anyone. Snowden let the entire world know of some of our government's methods of gathering intelligence, but it is ultimately the government to blame for gathering the intelligence like it is doing. It is bad for public trust and foreign relations.

I am not worried about the rioters. People who want to show their disagreement with lawful US policies just because they think it may violate the Fourth Amendment (even though a court states that it didn't) by rioting instead of sending lawyers to prove the Constitution was violated aren't the people I am worried about.

The people I am worried about are the potential victims of rioters. Innocent bystanders, store owners, government employees, and potentially anybody the rioters assume are pro-NSA (to include Soldiers since the NSA director is an Army general and as such normal Soldiers who aren't assigned to NSA may be targeted too) are who I am worried about.

I lived through the Rodney King riots, even though they were focused in LA we had rioters in Atlanta. I remember them trashing our local supermarket and I remember my mother panicking and throwing sheets on the doors and windows when the police started throwing tear gas.

[QUOTE="TheWalkingGhost"] Do you even believe the crap you type? I am sure Russia and North Korea were so wronged by the USA. Nice generalization and bigotry you got there. I smell a troll, and rather rank one.Toxic-Seahorse

You only see problems you created yourself, go study 'cold war' (not the american version) and come talk to me afterwards.
You deny the fact that USA is an imperialistic state in disguise?

Do you even know what imperialism is? I don't think you do.

Can you read? I don't think you can.

[QUOTE="Pirate700"]lol You don't think every major country spies on the others?

Toxic-Seahorse

America seems to be pioneering in that department at the moment.

Spying on your political allies no less? Let's not be apologists now OT posters.

No, we're just the only ones that got exposed.

Probably because most other nations do not spy on their allies in what appears to be very high risk ways. Intelligence gathering and spying are at different places on the spectrum. It was dumb... the the intent of such actions is more than questionable from an EU standpoint.

People here saying that Snowden needs to be taken out make me want to throw up.  He is a whistleblower, plain and simple.  He's just a very well-informed and fearless one.  The more illegal activities that he uncovers, the better.  A government that does this kind of crap doesn't deserve respect.

hartsickdiscipl

He stopped being a whistleblower when he blabbed to the foreign press. He became a flat-out traitor when he leaked US intelligence-gathering techniques to a foreign power. Stop defending him.

Illegal intelligence-gathering techniques.

Don't be naive enough to think other countries aren't doing that.

The only reason the US got caught was because Snowden stabbed his country in the back. If he never said anything you Euros wouldn't have found out. Everybody spies on other people and uses the internet to do it. The only difference is the US got caught thanks to a sell out. This is non-news and shouldn't be cared about.

Okay, spy on your own country if you want, but leave the world alone.

Big_Pecks
Well it's wrong in either case but I see your point.

It would be ok if they did it. It's only wrong when somebody else does.

If only everyone was as honest as Snowden about this sort of horrible activity. Oh Nationalism, how you ruin us.
