Whats your take on "screaming" music?

I get why people don't like the music, I can understand it completely. But for me I love it. Two bands I am really into right now are.

Sylosis - Teras

Darkest hour - low

If you ever get the chance to see Sylosis live, jump at the chance i've seen em 5 times and met the band twice and had a cig with Alex outside the venue last time i seen them and talked bout the last few times they have been here and bout music in general.

Such a brilliant band and really down to earth guys aswell, hands down one of the most underrated bands in Britain right now.

I love some.

E.g.; Whole song is screaming/growling, but it's amazing.

I have yet to listen to a reputable band that performs this way.

I'm not saying it'll never happen, it's just unlikely.

Can't stand death metal. Do like screaming in moderation.

It takes a lot of talent to do the technique correctly, its a really hard technique to get down correctly without destroying your vocal chords like most scene bands do.You do it wrong you end up doing a Matt Tuck or Matt Heafy :P

tends to be more growly when its metal :P especially if your Mikhael Akerfeldt then you just sound like the cookie monster on steroids while retaining one of the best clean vocals i have ever heard in my life.

I don't mind screaming to an extent. It's not like I can't handle it or whatever, I just find it boring, especially death metal. There has to be some sort of melodic component to the music to make it sound good (Opeth, Children of Bodom, Kalmah, etc.).

I only like sreaming when its needed, not the entire song. Too many screamers sound the same, so all the music to me sounds the same. When you do it in moderation like another person said, then thats ok. But stupid metal core crap like Asking Alexandra and crap i hate that stuff.

As I've gotten over the age of 13, I've come to realize that 99% of the various types of metal is almost impossible to listen to. It's terrible.

All im gonna say is Djent :P especially Periphery,Animals as Leaders and Tesseract, good musicianship and great guitar work.

None of that has anything (repeat: ANYTHING) to do with Nickelback. The only possible need for a Nickelback reference is as a strawman. Nickelback are not metal. Nickelback are not hip-hop or pop (popular maybe... though only God knows why).

Actually it does because you make a big deal about playing instruments being a lot better than most musicians on the top charts regardless if the actual music is good. Again I bring Nickelback up (even though they're about as metal as The Archies) because they do play their own instruments, which seems to be your point regarding musicians playing instruments. Bringing up Nickelback is relevant to your arugment because again, they play guitar and drums. If I wanted to use a metal band, I probably would have selected Bullet for My Valent (decent when instrumental, horrendous lyrics)

I'm a bit confused regarding whether you consider the music or lyrics better. Previously you were posting about the music and instruments being the most important factor and now you're posting about bad pop lyrics... Do you think the music is a lot better than lyrics in general?

My point, AGAIN, was that hip-hop and pop bands have nothing beyond the vocals COMPARED TO METAL BANDS. At all.

Alestorm are by far a better band but thats my rabid fanboyism showing through since they are local lads.I remember the days when they had 1 album and could barely pack a tiny wee venue called the Cathouse :P

Maybe you should read some lyrics by bands that are classed as death metal, sure theres guys like Deicide who opt for the gory and satanic side of things but then you have the likes of Nile who write bout mythology and ancient egyptian culture and the gods or tell stories some of the Nile liner notes are extremely intresting.

Same goes for Opeth a lot of their stuff is pretty laid back and bodom's is a mix of anything, Sixpounder is bout guns and the sort, and on the other hand you've got Silent night bodom night which is about an unsolved murder on the banks of Lake Bodom.

Again, Do you prefer the music or lyrics?? So far I haven't heard anything about that at all.... My Nickelback example is far from a straw man since again, THEY ARE GOOD AT THEIR INSTRUMENTS (regardless if they are even close to metal) and meanwhile you have been been unclear about whether you consider the music better than lyrics... So what if you think hip-hop and pop groups have nothing against metal (hint: its all biased opinion), I just want to know whether you think the music is more important than lyrics...

Yes I called BFMV metal (even though I really can't stand them).. Problem? *trollface* Its okay to label metal bands you hate as "metal."

I'm a huge fan of the more extreme forms of punk and hardcore. And the only "metal" i really listen to consistently is grindcore and death metal, so naturally I enjoy it alot. Screaming/growling done right makes certain types of mucic far more intense and worthwile in my opinion.
