There are lyric sheets in the albums for a reasonimaps3fanboyDidn't you get the memo? The "cool" way of getting music these days is through a computer, where you can select a single song from an album to download and never have to even look at the disc or jewel case (or in even more retro-style, the dust jacket). Or stream it off this place called "You-Tube." It truly does amaze me how people just write off music they've never given a chance like they know everything about music.

I f***ing DARE a pop or hip-hop act to do a song that sounds anything like this or this. I intentionally picked two instrumentals because both of those genres these days rely on vocals to get by; without someone singing, they're just repetitive electronic noise.[QUOTE="freek666"]I can understand why others will say that so and so is "just noise", but to say that things like pop music and hip hop "requires no talent" is so wrong.OrkHammer007
In other words... no, no one in modern pop or hip-hop has a fraction of the talent of a metal band from any era.
Thank you for proving my point. Until a successful metal artist creates a popular and successful pop album, hip hop album, electronic album or whatever then my point stands. I can find a million people who can sweep tap and create insane technical music but if they don't have the skills to produce a credible and catchy album/song in the aforementioned genres and many others, then they don't deserve to have me on their nutsack like so many others (including yourself) are claiming that they're 'the tr00 musicians xD' and that any other style of music does not require just as much hard work and creativity. In others defense. They do have lyric videos on teh you tube too. MgamerBDOkay... so then why are you having problems understanding them? And how does that make music with harsh vocals bad?
they don't have the skills to produce a credible and catchy album/song in the aforementioned genres and many others,freek666So you prefer listening to pop hooks rather than actual music? Well, metal doesn't want you listening to it.

Interesting how so many people want to listen to music just for the hell of it rather than to enjoy it... Isn't that the point of music overall, regardless if its a catchy pop hook or a metal chorus. That is pretty much why I got tired of the metal fanbase; too many elitist snobs that make Perez Hilton look intelligent by comparison...
ake Perez Hilton look intelligent by comparison...Wolf-Man2006Although I don't believe that's humanly possible, I get your point, and it's true. It's no wonder there's such a stigma on being a fan when the majority of its fanbase are unrelenting and arrogant morons. I'm thinking that moron's is too harsh a word for people who simply don't like another style of music, but its the only way to describe people who will go out of their way to be uneducated about a subject and then vehemently reject any possible alternative.

I hate screamo, It isn't "real" music , anyone could scream into a mic, i hate how some screamo bands are POPULAR.
AussieePet
What screamo bands are popular??
Attack Attack, Asking Alexandra , Bring Me The HorIzon, and BVB aka Black Viels Brides ( The all got at least one good song)
At least learn what screamo is before talking about it. Variants of Metalcore/Deathcore/Post-Hardcore are not screamo, peoples ignorance of the sub-genre has made some fans even call it a different name (skramz).
This angry video (and less angry video description) sums up everything perfectly.

It probably sounds the same to some people, but they are clearly different.

theres a ton of memorable hooks in Metallica songs especially Master of Puppets,For whom the bell tolls and Enter Sandman.Even Megadeth with Peace sells that bass riff is instantly recoqnisable and catchy.
Good songs are memorable and special ones that make an impact are memorable.Genre does not dictate the hook of the song.Meshuggah's bleed is instantly recoqnisable for its drole use of F# tuning and its strange triplet riff.Cowboys from hell by Pantera aswell is another one that you instantly know when you hear it or Walk.
Pop is pop, its catchy because its made for widespread consumption and manufactured to do so.But saying theres no hooks in metal is like saying the good old lol bassists y can i no hear u in a metal band.

At first I was going to LOL and rip this post to shreds. But then I read it again and noticed you said modern pop or hip-hop. While I wouldn't go so far as saying NO ONE, as there are some really talented pop singers, as most modern radio pop is image driven and not talent driven I'd say you might be right...Yes I called BFMV metal...Wolf-Man2006Then I'm done arguing with you, since you don't have a f***ing clue.
You fail basic reading comprehension.
You fail musical genre identification (BFMV are metalcore, not metal).
You fail in general.
Go away.
Until a successful metal artist creates a popular and successful pop album, hip hop album, electronic album or whatever...freek666...wait... stop right there, and read what you just wrote.
Go ahead, I'll wait until you fully grasp what you have asked a metal band to do: come up with a pop, hip-hop, or electronic album.
You want a good band to strip down everything that makes them good (basically, 99.9% of their talent) to make a piss-poor imitation of music... and that will prove that they have talent?!?
I want what you're smoking... it must be some SERIOUSLY good s***.
Well this thread turned into exactly what I expected, who woulda guessed it...
And "screaming" in music? I am guessing within metal music? I find it in poor taste but to each there own.
P.S Robyn is an amazing artist. :P

So in other words, you know so much about metal you are automatically a god among men..... No need to get angry sir, its just opinion which you seem to have a hard time understanding because you know so much about music you won't even answer my simple question because you are just that smart and know a lot more than casual folk like me..... I can understand the requirements of being a metal elitist snob because after all, you meet all the requirements.. Congratulations, I hope you are a very happy individual. Good luck proving that METALZ is so much better than that poppy, hip-hop crap because everybody knows Adele and Lady Gaga can't tell the difference between a piano and those fake $10 keytars manufactured by Fisher Price because after all, you are making a difference in somebody's life.. Probably not mine because I actually like stuff beyond death metal
Also I used to be a metal elitist snob just like you, until I took an arrow in the knee :)

Music does not have to be "successful" to be good. Successful is such a broad term in music. Also music does not have to be popular to be good either. There are bands out there that play because they absolutly love to do it, and don't care if they get to the top of the charts or not. However, most mainstream music (aka "popular music") is there for more or less one reason: To make money. I can bet when the record label sees that one of these mainstream bands stops making money, they will be dropped like a stone and forgotten like the trash that gets thrown out in the garbage. In my opinion, popular music is the worst kind of music because it tries to cater to everyone and it ends up being boring, lifeless, uncreative and more about the image of the singers/band rather than the music itself.

I am also a huge metal fan. One reason why is because metal is so varied spread across so many different styles of music. I don't look down on other forms of music. I love Michael Jackson and think he is still the best pop artist ever and will not be beaten for many years to come. I don't look down on other music, but I do look down on certain record labels and certain so called "artists" that treat music as a money machine rather than art. What is good and true about Metal music is most bands are not trying to get on the top ten charts or on the radio. They play it because they love it. Now of course with that in mind, metal has a huge spectrum, from the very dark part of the spectrum where bands talk about suffering, death, evil, etc.. to the other part of the spectrum where bands talk about love, God, hope, peace etc.. You also get bands (my favorite metal bands) that tell stories and take you on an adventure. Some bands talk about religion, others talk about Ancient Egypt and others even sing in forgotten languages. Some metal bands have amazing musical structures with flowing rhythms and bombastic melodies while other bands are utter garbage with their fruity loops drum samples going at 250 BPM and vocals that aren't that great.
Each genre of music can be creative but most mainstream music wants to stay the same and not stray from the norm so they can keep on pleasing the people that really don't give a crap about music as an art form but more as "party" music with easy to follow tempos and beats. I find this kind of music boring and devoid of any real feeling. But that's just my opinion.

In Metal? no.
Death/Black metal are horrible imo.
Thrash metal is where its at. No screaming or "growling", but aggresive and melodic vocals to match the instensity of the music.

I myself only really listen to metal but that doesn't mean I don't respect the artists of other genres that put their blood sweat and tears into making an exceptional album (and those artists are really hard to find in this day and age. You gotta really did deep to find them). What I said before is that I really don't like "artistis" or labels that only make music to make a paycheck rather than music that opens your mind and makes you think about all sorts of things.
