As much as I agree with you, there are many people here who think we are the enemy. Lets not forget that most of the anti-America attacks are from people like Hugo Chaves and Fidel Castrol (who aren't very nice guys and rule with an iron fist.) Part of the reason why we are hated is because we are a free country and have rights.

Wolf-Man2006

How many times have I heard this? Bush standing there saying "they hate us because we are free and democratic." This is one of the biggest popular fallacies alive in America today. They don't hate you because you're free. New Zealand is free. Canada is free. Brazil is free. Norway is free. They hate you because you have your nose in everyone's business. I will admit that some situations deserve a little nosing into, especially when you are a superpower, but the US has taken it way too far, most notably with the war in Iraq.

France, Germany, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Norway...virtually every single NATO nation is helping in the war on terror

Not quite "Every single" country in NATO, but honestly more than I thought. Thank you for educating me sir.

That just the various zones and bases...

Here's a list of the participating countries:

First off I'm from the US, and I find it odd that the United States gets made fun of so much. Can somebody explain why? Here's some things I find odd:

Two days after the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004 the United States sent a $300million check to the relief effort. The response was basically: "What, that's it?"

The United States is in so much debt it isn't even funny (go to: http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/after five seconds click refresh and watch how much it goes up). We're always sending money and all people do is complain, you don't think we could keep it?

The United States is ranked 16 on the list of % of people living in poverty. (Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poverty_in_the_United_States )

I understand that the war is a big controversey, but after Sept 11, when over 3000 people were murdered (remember that?), everybody was pretty much for it. George W. Bush is still fighting because he's standing up for what he believes in. Is that a bad thing? I think not.

whipassmt

I agree. The real reason the U.S. is bashed is because the other countries envy our values and our prosperity. The U.S. donates more to Charity than any other nation, and we are bearing the brunt of the war on Terror, really Britain, Canada, Australia and Israel are the only other countries doing anything significant to stop Terrorism.

Not really...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/4145259.stm

France, Germany, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Norway...virtually every single NATO nation is helping in the war on terror

how many troops do they have in Iraq or Afghanistan. German and French troops in Afghanistan are not allowed to go into the combat zones. And even if they are helping they are not doing their fare share. Non- U.S. troops in Afghanistan total about 23,ooo and U.S. troops in Afghanistan is about 23,ooo so on it's own the U.S. is sending the same amount of troops as the other allies put together.

"The other allies" as in Europe + Canada and Australia

They're doing more than their fare share.

Actually, it's completely not at all. Most of the impetus for radical Islamic terrorism is rooted in Israel. It's creation, it's support and armament, it's baffling policies regarding the Palestinians. This is the heart of the Islamic preoccupation with the US, because America is seen as "in bed" with Israel in a way none of the rest of the west is or ever could be. That is why Canada/Sweden/whoever is not threatened by terrorism as much as the US is.

The US constantly gets bashed because we have to do all the dirty work of the world... The rest of the world...example europe etc.. doesnt do anything until its to late (WW2)

Big brother always takes the heat

And the funny thing is, we dont give a crap what the ressed of the world says, they can all jump off a bridge together

blackngold29

your a bit of an idiot...so did the usa join before anything happened? the answer is no :O shocker... you waited untill you were attacked and then you joined so your argument is invalid

Righteo, we were trying to avoid war. After Pearl Harbor 65% of Americans said "Stay out of the war."

Where did you get that number? I find that hard to believe.

Every country has stuck up people. What I think it is with Americans is a kind of cultural brainwashing that results in a kind of patriotic ignorance.

Example: How many times have you heard an American say something like "our legal system isn't perfect, but dammit, it's the best system on the face of the planet," and you feel like asking: "Really? Name 3 ways that the American legal system is significantly superior to that of New Zealand?" Which of course they can't do, because they don't have a clue about the legal system in any other country, they are just regurgitating the same tired rhetoric they've heard their whole lives.

As a Canadian, my personal favourite is how very few Americans, when polled, answer Canada when asked who is the largest trading partner of the U.S. Most answer Britain/Japan/Mexico. C'mon people!

There are plenty of reasons to love America. Being a tv junky, I consume vast quantities of American media... music also. I have American relatives. If I had to live anywhere other than where I am, NYC would be my first choice. However, the TC DID ask why people bash the U.S., not why they praise it.

Oh yeah, thats such an American thing when we have people hopping the border from Mexico who are ACTUALLY TRYING TO PUSH LEGISLATION TO MAKE TEACHERS REQUIRED TO LEARN SPANISH!!!!

I have had to take the orders of people (I work in fast food) who didn't even ******* speak English. I really wish I could deny them service.

My view: If you are going to another country, especially for a long term, know the basics of their language at the very least.

Youngest... are you sure? Younger than Australia? New Zealand?

As for jealousy... if there was a list of reasons, that would certainly be one of the items on the list. But you're fooling yourself if you think that it is the whole list.

Britain doesnt have the power to project their troops all over the world, the only one able to do that is US our power projection capabilities are much greater than other nations. The British Military only consists of about 195,000 active troops comapared to the 1.5 million US troops. There are in total about 40,000 troops in Afghanistan. 30,000 of which are US troops. The others are part of ISAF which is only staying in the southern and eastern part of the country where there is little to no combat. I am not saying the US is doing it all, sure we got help especially from the ANA but for the size of the European Union and considering we are allies, they should at least commit some of the ISAF to combat parts of the country. And Afghanistan has very little going on in it right now much of the taliban were ousted during the initial invasion in 2001 and the ANA is securing a good part of the country. We had to do the entire occupational phase of Iraq by ourselves, most European countries have either pulled out or only left liaison officers there.

I do wish they hadn't dropped the bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, or more accurately I wish it hadn't been necessary. If only they could have just continued to firebomb the place into the stone age. It would have cost more Japanese lives, but at least the U.S. wouldn't be on record as the only nuclear aggressor on the planet.

Jealousy.

We're both the most prosperous and youngest country in the world.

There's a reason people risk everything to come here.

This is the kind of ignorance people don't like, and it's probably one of the reasons why they bash you...

That's actually pretty accurate of what an uninformed American citizen believes

Just because everyone else isn't as patriotic as us doesn't mean we're overly patriotic.

We're only the world police because nobody will help us, and we stand up for what we believe, until the job is done.

The only world police? What about the EU?

Apparently they just sit one their asses and do nothing, because they certainly aren't helping us with anything nor are they helping with Darfur or Somalia. While we are in our war the lease they could do is send troops to try and stabalize the region.

bloody hell your an imbecile, watched the news lately? because the last time i checked there aree british troops all over the world, and a good amount of european troops in iraq and afghanistan, but you know excuse us for not send 40000 troops to help fight your wars...

There are Canadians in the hot zones.

explain the second bomb? the first was enough to show american superiority and end any war with japan.

We had to do the entire occupational phase of Iraq by ourselves, most European countries have either pulled out or only left liaison officers there.UrbanSpartan125

Afghanistan is completely different from Iraq. There is less of a coalition in Iraq because it is a farce. Canadians for instance are dying weekly in Afghanistan, and for good reason, but we're staying the hell out of Iraq. Americans call us cowards for not going into Iraq, completely ignoring the blood we're spilling in Afghanistan... talk about "what have you done for me lately."

We dropped a bomb, we said "Stop or we'll do it again", they didn't stop, we followed through with our promise

The second bomb was a) because Japan didn't surrender after the 1st... and b) to prove that the first one wasn't a prototype, a unique "one-off."

Don't do this again...Europe is a continent...US is a country

Don't do what again? You're the one lurking around waiting for another pro American comment to show up so you can compliment it

Anyway, your logic fails. It doesn't matter whether Europe is a nation or not. The European nations' defense policy and actions have to be ratified by the EU parliament...making it a united operation.

And the size of the US is much larger than any individual European member state.
