OFFICIAL Sonic Generations Thread

As much as I like a light stories for Sonic games as the next guy am I the only one who don't mind seeing a heavy story in Sonic game (nothing like 06 of course) mixed with the humour Colours had....I'll shut up now.koolkat14

I can see a Sonic game having a good, decent story. It just has to have the right balance. I don't want it to try too hard like Sonic 06 but I don't want it to be lacking like Generations, which is an Anniversary game.

The story in Sonic Colors was fine, although I think the DS version did better.

Also, I'm starting to get tired of plots where's its obvious Eggman is the culprit. I'm wondering if we need new villains in the Sonic Game Universe.

Yeah because all the other Sonic games were so brilliantly written (sarcasm). At least Colors could poke fun at itself.

In all seriousness,I'm no fan of super light story's like this game has.The one in Colors was fine since that at least had a cutscene after you finish every "world" while in here its after every 3 levels.

Sonic Colors had no humor. Every single joke fell flat. It made you feel like you were playing a game for kids 7 and under. What a terrible script.ShadowofSonic

I beg to differ. I actually enjoyed most of the jokes in the game although the clobbering one was a bit too much. I can understand if you don't like the Colours story that much but saying that it has no humour at all is ridiculous.

I have to agree with you about Generation's story, I'm perfectly fine with how it is but there's something about it that feels....lacking for some reason. As for having a new villain, well, I don't mind having a new one, as long as it doesn't have to do with some huge monster or something like that. :P

I like how we're trying to argue over the necessity of story in a game that was originally about purely and exclusively gameplay, compounded on the fact the story has fluctuated in story quality since they tried to incorporate story in the games. Seriously, if the story itself was good, the writing around it would be bad, or vice versa.

Sonic stories always feel more at home when they don't take themselves seriously and can poke fun at themselves. The last time a "serious story" actually really worked was maybe Sonic Heroes if we want to count that, all subsequent games have failed to deliver on story in one way or another and even Heroes had its flaws.

I personally think the writing in Generations was fine, it just lacked more of it. Colors had a lot of cutscenes, and the story was actually decently-sized when you put it all together. Generations' scenes are few and far between, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

As for Colors having no humor, humor isn't always about laughing out loud so hard that you die. I kinda like to think of Colors' humor as a little more cutesy and unafraid of itself. If you know what I'm saying.

On the note of villains, this is why it's essential they get Metal Sonic in more games. He's behaved on his own before, they could easily put him as a main villain of another game. However, let's look back at all the times they TRIED to add more villains than Eggman...

-Chaos (Who turned out was never a villain, just trying to protect his kin since he was an accended Chao if I'm correct. It was something like that.)
-Biolizard (Had no personality and only served as the instrument of Gerald Robotnik's revenge, to be used as a killswitch for crashing the ARK into Earth.)
-Mephiles (Was completely doing his own thing separate of Eggman that I've seen so far and his goal is Final Fantasy cliche goal of doomsday god bullcrap.)
-Dark Gaia (Also had no personality, was kinda just raising hell because he was woke up early.)

I won't even go into other games. See what I'm getting at? Villains outside of Eggman really never had a personality or just didn't click with the Sonic universe or even worse, weren't REAL villains, just godlike entities that were angry about something and disturbed. Fun fact: all god creatures in Sonic are angry babies that b**** and cry when you wake them up.

Sonic Colors is really what I want in his games on stories. But all I want in video games is to play.white_kunoichi

Well sadly as we've seen there's a VERY SMALL minority of fans who want the Sonic series to take itself seriously depsite how badly that went in '06. But like most of you I feel that when the main characters of your series are a bunch of techincolor woodland animals, you can't take yourself that seriously and you should be like a Saturday morning cartoon.

Newsflash: Sonic was a series ALWAYS aimed at the younger set, much like Mario. Doesn't mean we can't enjoy it too but anyone who thinks the series needs to be "serious" and "deep" just because they're insecure and want to feel like this series "grew up" with them needs to get over it. There are plenty of mature games with deep stories geared at older gamers to give you that. May I suggest the games of Bioware?

Well the other complaint now is some folks don't like Sonic's altered personality being a bit more cocky as opposed to his dated 90s too cool persona that had gotten old and the fact that Tails is no longer kissing his butt but overall most folks are pleased wtih the new direction and everyone else just has to suck it.

I like Sonic's new approach, it shows that Sega is actually listening now, and wants to make up for what they did.macrules_640

One of the things I like about the Archie Comics that is Sonic has to fight other villains besides Eggman and Metal Sonic.

I really don't see a problem with making a interesting villain that's not a monster of the week but can actually hold their own against Sonic and even Eggman.

Heck, they could bring back Nack the Weasel.

The only other problem is that most of the new characters Sonic fights either become Antiheroes or switch sides to become Heroes.
