I applaud Matt Cain, and I'm a Dodgers' fan. Hell of a performance. BUT... unless Lincecum steps up/regains his form from two years ago, I don't see the Giants making it to the playoffs.
TonyDanzaFan
I do. Cain, Vogelsong, and Bumgarner is the best rotation in baseball, plus Pablo is back and Melky has become one of the best hitters in the league along with the best hitting catcher in the league. They're in pretty good shape, regardless of Lincecum.
They have a good 1-2 punch in Cain and Bumgarner, I'll give them that, but I think Washington's Gonzalez and Strasburg are better. Best hitting catcher? Yeah, he's good, but I think Carlos Ruiz gives him a run for his money. The only thing Posey has over Ruiz (aside from age) is a pop of power; Can't win games with just home runs though.
All season is going to be between Dodgers and Giants in the division. And with this new Wild Card system, who knows, both teams might make it. I would love to see a Dodgers/Giants National League Championship Series.

I was pretty wrecked last night. You're right, at this moment he's not the best. But he's better thhan Ruiz. Ruiz has a much longer track record of not being a good offensive player. I think this is more of a fluke that we are seeing with him. Ruiz isn't on the phillies to hit, he's there to man that rotation. But Buster has the potential to be the best hitting catcher in the entire MLB. Sooner rather than later we will see this. We would be seeing this sooner if notfor his gruesome injury last year. Buster just turned 25 and had an incredible rookie season, and hes been no slouch this season either. THe only guy I would say MAY have a better future is Weiters, but I still think Posey will be better. 18 Home runs as a catcher in only 105 games as a rookie is pretty impressive. I didn't say the Giants have the best one-two punch. I said they had the best rotation. Jordan Zimmerman is not better than Ryan Vogelsong, and when Lincecum is mentally healthy, then there is 100% no question that it is the best one-two punch, let alone rotation. And you can't win games with homers? The 2012 New York Yankees say otherwise. And Buster Posey, who you were alluding to, hits more than home runs.
Fine rotation. I like Washington's better, also Halladay/Hamels/Lee, and Weaver/Haren/Wilson. And by the numbers, Posey is more like the 3rd or 4th best hitting catcher in the NL. Master_LiveI forgot about the Angel's. I'd say they are about on par as far as quality goes, despite Haren's struggles early this year. Halladay/Hamels/Lee isn't what it was, even a year ago. Halladay is injured pretty badly, Hamels has been solid, but he's not coming back and may even be traded, and Lee doesn't even have a single win yet. Vance Worley is a beast though. My point is that the Giants have the most consistent, and if not the best, certainly a top 5 rotation. For my money, though, it is the best. Lincecum just needs some rest to get his mind right. Maybe start smoking again, as that seemed to work before.
Oh how the might have fallenhonestly though, did anyone think this was ever a decent idea at any point in time?
What the f*ck is going on with this team. 3 injured starters, 4 games. One may need another TJ, who knows about Hutch, and Morrow could be out 6-8 weeks.
That was Oakland does, their budget is limited so they have to take flyers here and there. Master_LiveExactly. They sign players like Manny in hopes that they will produce anything so they can ship them away at the deadline. I just hope the yankees can somehow get big fatty back if they can't make a deal for Garza.
14th and counting? Thousands of "fans" walking out in the 13th. Sad, truly sad.

The A's should should pick up Vlad, he's been hot in AAA. They could get him for a bargain and ship him out for a tidy profit. The playoff race is going to be great this year. Plenty of teams still in the mix.
-
Tex coming up big. Sounds like they're playing in the Bronx. Yankee fans being raucous as always.
Why would they get rid of one old guy who hadn't played in a year, for another, who's old team thought he wasn't ready...just like Manny? Cliff Lee can't buy a break...and I'm okay with that today. Great comeback win. This team has shown me something after the type of news they've received in the last week. Bigger story: Romero didn't get hurt!14th and counting? Because it's what they do. If he's cheap, why not give him a go? They can judge for themselves. I think Vlad can help out a few teams in the DH/PH market.

I guess they could. They'll probably talk to Toronto to get a read on how close he was first. There really wasn't anywhere for him to go, which was a problem. There wasn't much room for Manny in Oakland though...didn't wanna move Cowgill, Smith or Moss. Idk if they would for Vlad.Jays, Rockies discussing Guthrie.

Makes sense imo. He seems to get a lot of hate. But the Jays need some kind of upgrade. I'd rather have Garza or Dempster, but they might not be traded until July.
Farrell was non-committal towards the next two starters needed, so who knows. Guthrie knows the ALE, has had solid numbers, especially in 2010 when the O's lost 96 games. Innings eatter. And if he performs well, you could flip him at the deadline for something slightly better in return than you gave up.
And I have no problem with trading McDade. With Gomes/Cooper/Lind in the system, 1B is kind of taken.
Based upon the most recent round of vote tallying, here are the forecasted All-Star Game starting rosters:
NL
AL
EDIT: Bautista passed Cruz in voting
Bautista passed Cruz and is in 3rd. So wouldn't he be the 3rd OF? But I agree, Jones should be there as a starter. Even over Granderson.Based upon the most recent round of vote tallying, here are the forecasted All-Star Game starting rosters:
NL
- C - Yadier Molina (should be Carlos Ruiz)
- 1B - Joey Votto (the right choice)
- 2B - Dan Uggla (should be Jose Altuve)
- 3B - David Wright (the right choice)
- SS - Troy Tulowitzki (terrible choice, he's been injured for much of the season; should be Starlin Castro)
- OF - Matt Kemp (another guy who's spent much of the season injured; should be Carlos Gonzalez)
- OF - Carlos Beltran (should either be Melky Cabrera or Andrew McCutchen)
- OF - Ryan Braun (right choice)
AL

- 2B - Ian Kinsler (should be Jason Kipnis)
- 3B - Adrian Beltre (should be Miguel Cabrera)
- SS - Derek Jeter (not the worst choice, given his hot April, but should be Elvis Andrus)

I agree with the ones you wrote down. I also think Astrubal Cabrera deserves a look at SS. Edwin Encarnacion deserves to make it as a DH, along with Dunn and Ortiz. Really doubt it though. Beltran and McCutchen deserve to be in it. If a team NEEDS a player there, I think Mauer could go as a backup catcher. Idk anyone else from the Twins really who could. Cano or Kipnis at 2B, Jones AND Granderson in. I don't think Bautista deserves it this year, but he'll probably make it. Rest of the team I either agree with, or agree with you. I'm always interested in who's pitching. A lot of promising pitchers who could have went, now out. Morrow, Dempster, Beachy. In Jays news, Kyle Drabek needs TJS. Again. That really sucks. Only guy I know of to have that is Jason Frasor. And he hasn't been hurt since.
Only one not hurt or playing at an MLB level from that trade is D'Arneud.

I'm liking all the Sox love in this post. Not sure if it's all warranted, but liking it nonetheless (though Dunn not getting the call at this pace would be a travesty).
I think it warants bring up R.A. Dickey's name again after ANOTHER one-hitter tonight, which likely makes him the favorite for the Cy Young this year. Just take a look at his last 5 starts: 43.2 IP, 0.00 ERA, 52 Ks, 5 BBs, 0.48 WHIP. If David Wright hadn't allowed an unearned run in on a throwing error in his last start he'd be gunning for Orel Hershiser's scoreless innings record.
I agree Dickey has been on fire. I called him to be the next no-no guy this year just 2 days prior to his first one hitter. His knuckler is the best I've seen in a long time. He throws it a lot harder than most guys who toss the knuck, that's what's getting to the hitters.
-
I know I wouldn't mind seeing him in Yankee pin stripes.
Dickey has been phenomenal, but it's way too early to call any awards. Just look at Ubaldo in 2010. The guy won like 15 games in a row and everybody was saying he was the best pitcher ever. BTW, wtf happened to him? His fastball was routinely 97-100 WITH movement! He's turned into a complete disaster, and I'm glad the yankees didn't trade for him. That said, I hope the Yankees can make a deal for Garza and not Wandy. Garza is damn good, and he looks like Vanilla Ice lol. I doubt it would take that much to get him. Wandy would get raped in the AL East.I think it warants bring up R.A. Dickey's name again after ANOTHER one-hitter tonight, which likely makes him the favorite for the Cy Young this year. Joel Peralta ejected for having pine tar on his glove. That's some good ol' fashioned cheating. Awesome. I just became a fan of his.
Does anybody listen to the Fantasy Focus Baseball Podcast? They read my email today on the show. It made me giddy when I heard my name lol. TonyDanzaFanWhat was the question?
Marlins are a frigging god awful team.
We have 1.5 hitters, a starting rotation that is cooling down, and a bullpen that sucks. They have left a runner on 3rd base with less than 2 outs 40 times this month. FORTY TIMES. 3rd worst run differential in the league. They suck.
Don't worry, you guys should win tomorrow. We got Jesse Chavez going, who absolutely self-destructed in his last (and first ever) start. Not feeling too confident. The top 4 in the order, since the change, has been outstanding. Bautista is hitting again, EE is having a great year (they've combined for 44 HR, most in baseball for 2 teammates), and Rasmus and Lawrie have completely turned it around. Especially Colby. Love how he's playing. If this pitching can get worked out, or at least keep us in games...with the offense we have, I feel pretty good. But it changes week it week it seems. 1.5 out right now though.Marlins are a frigging god awful team.

Well, Youk is done as a Red Sox if Middlebrooks continues at his paste thankfully. One cancer out of the locker room.
I think Youk will be gone this week. Sounds like the Sox are really pushing him out, and the White Sox and Pirates are interested.Well, Youk is done as a Red Sox if Middlebrooks continues at his paste thankfully. One cancer out of the locker room.

White Sox got the better of that trade by a huge margin, but as long as Youk is gone.

Yeah, have fun with Zach Stewart:P. Lillibridge could turn out to be something for you, though, he's been one of those "next season" players for us. Not a ringing endorsement, but it worked out with the Yankees and Swish.
Was there for both WS no? Stops hitting and people call him a "cancer", yep the Bo Sux Nation smear campaign is in full effect, just like every time before. The Sox didn't give up much, how were we not able to land him? Nice job Uncle Ned, this team is nosediving fast esp. without Kemp.X360PS3AMD05I think he was on the roster for the first championship and appeared in some regular season games that season, but Mueller was the starting third basemen.
