White Sox got the better of that trade by a huge margin, but as long as Youk is gone.

Yeah, have fun with Zach Stewart:P. Lillibridge could turn out to be something for you, though, he's been one of those "next season" players for us. Not a ringing endorsement, but it worked out with the Yankees and Swish.

Hahaha...Zach Stewart. I love that they took him from us in the first place.

Well f*ck. Another injury. Looks like Alvarez's elbow. Just...ridiculous.

Stay healthy Ricky.

Jays sign Moyer. I hope it's just depth for AAA. I really don't want him starting.

Could a rookie (Trout) win the AL MVP?

  • .338/.399/.531
  • Angels were 6-14 before his call-up from AAA. 34-19 since.
  • Leads the AL in AVG and steals.
  • Leads the AL in WAR, despite missing those first 20 games.
  • 3rd among AL outfielders in UZR.
  • Has a shot at 20 HR / 50 SB

I swear the Brewers are getting no-hit through half the game on a weekly basis now, being no-hit through 7 innings tonight.

Was there for both WS no? Stops hitting and people call him a "cancer", yep the Bo Sux Nation smear campaign is in full effect, just like every time before. The Sox didn't give up much, how were we not able to land him? Nice job Uncle Ned, this team is nosediving fast esp. without Kemp.X360PS3AMD05
He isn't a cancer because he stopped hitting, he is a cancer because of his reaction to the rise of Middlebrook and his decline. He acted spoiled and that he was entitled to play regardless of his preformance.

True words. Most athletes are like that I'm sure. The great few know when it's time to exit stage left. He had to know that he's not getting younger, and not producing. Be a team guy. That's seems to be their main issue recently. From an outsider and Yankee supporter.

Yanks looking strong. If they can start hitting when there's risp, they wont be caught. 28th in MLB.

Yeah, I can't believe we got Youk for just him and another player. Stewart's never been great, and Lilibridge, though probably with a bigger upside, has yet to break out as well. I guess that's what a slightly down batting average and a young upstart pushing for playing time will do to a team's trade expectations.

Just glad Cashman's going to stay in house. They should have some guys that can hold the fort until CC is back. Garcia has shown he has some guile and I think he will do fine.

I read they may be interested in Liriano and can use him in long relief when Pettitte comes back. But we'll see. The guys in AAA (forget their names), haven't had good seasons, which makes Cashman's job on replacing a bit tougher.

So this happened today:
Trout-color-catch.gif

I feel pretty safe declaring it to be the catch of the year, what you can't see is that the hardly even slows down while getting to that ball. That's right up there with the Gary Matthews Jr. or Torri Hunter catches with the best i've seen in my lifetime.

Mike Trout for MVP. Cano has been on fire lately. This is exactly what we needed. It sucks about Andy though. Sabathia isn't a big deal, but Andy gone for 6 weeks succkkksss. Hopefully now they can make a deal for Garza. Garcia is trash.

Same old story for Bautista. If the average was a bit better, and he was on a winner, he would be a front runner for MVP imo. Now 26 HR, 14 this month. 61 RBI. 1st and 2nd in baseball respectivley. And I think he's just going to get better as the season goes. He's on pace to out-do his 2010 season.

Right next to an airline ad, too.

Also, I'm giddy that the Sox beat the Yankees. I had class tonight and I figured it was no big loss, Yanks would probably beat us. When I left they were up, but when I got to my car I found out they had a late three-run inning, sorry I had to mss it.

Aaron Hill hit for the cycle AGAIN tonight. 2nd time in 11 times. Only 2nd player ever in live ball era to have 2 in one season.

So happy to see him playing well.

And glad to see Lind have a big night. Hope he's here to stay and can hit like that consistently.

It's impressive, but i've never understood all the hype surronding the cycle. It's certainly a good game at the plate, but isn't 2 HRs, a double, and a single be more valuable, seeing as it's11 total bases vs. the Cycle's 10? Or even 2 HRs, and 2 singles?

Some of the stats are just mind-boggling. After David Ortiz and his insane 1.017 OPS, leaders in team OPS (min 100 AB) are as follows: Cody Ross, Daniel Nava, Will Middlebrooks, Jarrod...Salty, and Ryan Sweeney. Adrian Gonzalez, and Dustin Pedroia rank 7th and 8th respectively out of 11 qualifiers, Youk was 10th before the trade.

More bases is a better game, I agree. He's getting more air time than usual because he did it 11 days earlier too. Last time it was done was in '31.

Seabas989
I do. Phillies are hurt, and old. Marlins not living up to the hype and didn't have a good June at all, so who knows if they can rebound. The Mets and Braves are doing well, but Braves need to upgrade their pitching due to lack of success from Delgado and Minor and injuries. And the Mets...well, we'll see. Definitively have the best chance to win it. I think they have the best team. My question is: What happens when you get to September and beyond? It's been widely reported that Strasburg will shut down. Zimmerman is young as well, and could be on a innings limit. Could pose some problems.

I think they will sit out Strasburg an extra day or two so as to keep his starts and innings low. Make it 6-7 days between starts. He should lose 2-3 over the season and therefore, keep him fresh and close to his limits. If he has a couple starts like his last, he can save a bit for the playoffs. Just keep him out of games, it's simple. If they are in a fight late and need him, then use him. If they can afford to rest him, then all the better. They need to build a nice cushion to rely on so they can ease off innings from all their starters. What's the minors for if they can't/don't have anyone that can come up for a couple quality starts?

I guess they can. Only problem is, that can really mess with a pitcher, going every 6-7 days, then come playoffs he goes back to 4 or so? That what I read from pitchers anyways. They like consistency.

If they limit him now, they can start to change the rotation closer to the playoffs so he can acclimate to it. What's best for the team. Hope they get things right.

The major problem with the Nats is lack of offensive support. 22nd in the Majors in runs scored, granted they have the best pitching staff in terms of stats. If they can get a bat or two, they may have the best chance at winning the NL East, and possibly the NL pennant. I'm not sure who else would be contenders, tbh. Braves lost probably their best starter in Beachy for the year, Venters has been struggling. But Kimbrel has been awesome, Durbin has been decent, Jurrjens last three starts in the majors were a lot better than the first 4. The offense has been a surprise. After Pastornicky struggled, Simmons has done a surprising job at the plate and has been MUCH better in the field. Freeman is struggling a bit in his 2nd year, and Heyward is having a much better year. If McCann ever returns to form this year, the offense might challenge the Nats, if the pitching improves.

Marlins should just demote Bell from the closer role PERMANENTLY at least for the rest of this season. Morale has to be low when that MOFO gets to the mound.
