And Ron Washington is a TERRIBLE manager. Why the f*ck did he bring in Joe Nathan and Matt Harrison over Sale, Weaver, etc etc? Oh yeah, because they are Texas players. Matt Harrison should not have even been an AS to begin with. 5 runs is a big lead, but once Harrison gave up 3 more, then everybody pretty much lost hope.

TonyDanzaFan

I agree, he managed last night poorly. But to say he's terrible? He's managing this team for a reason.

Maybe I just don't care since my team has to chance at the WS, so I don't really care if the AL lost.

[QUOTE="TonyDanzaFan"][QUOTE="JohnBean42"] There were a lot of players that were upset about it. Pretty much all the media as well. And when you start saying thing to his family, that's where you cross the line.

The booing WAS all in good fun. But to be honest, it was a big much. You gotta let it go...is he really going to take him over Bautista, Trout or Fielder? No.

JohnBean42

What the f*ck are you talking about? All it was, was booing followed by Billy Butler chants. Who the f*ck said anything to his family? Jesus Christ, Cano didn't have a problem with it, so nobody else should. People need to stop being so damn whiny.

Should have linked it.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1254579-2012-all-star-game-fans-went-too-far-by-harassing-robinson-canos-family

Fans targeted his family. THAT is too far. Even if it was just a select few, it's still just...classless.

The booing..well, I do understand why they did it.

Oh wow, didn't see that at all. My apologies. Yeah that is too far. It's a shame that some drunken morons had to ruin the fun of everybody else.

Lol, it's fine. It really is a shame that a select few just have to put a damper on a great event that was a lot of fun. Fans take sports way too far. Going after someones family is just one example.

Jays lock up Edwin Encarnacion.

I think this signals they aren't ready to sell this season. EE was a big piece that could have been used for pitching/big prospects.

Similar to the Bautista deal. Had a great end to last year, after many ups and downs, never knowing where he was going to play, be it the minors, or on another team. EE was on waivers and AAA 2 years ago, Jose was never more than a bench player before coming to Toronto and working with Cito and Dwayne Murphy.

Only difference is Bautista had one great year, and signed off season, but part of that was cause he was under contract. EE is in the middle of a great year, but was going to be a FA, so that probably forces them to work faster, rather than wait.

I love the deal. Get him for 3, maybe 4 years, at less than he was going to get in FA, espeically if his 2nd half is as good as his first.

I've really become a fan of his and have loved seeing him change...not too long ago, fans were booing him non-stop and calling him E5 cause he just stunk on defense. Which mentally, hurt his hitting.

Also, a lot of talk here in Toronto about maybe giving up some big prospects or MLB talent for Justin Upton. Him in left or center, Rasmus opposite that, and Bautista in right. Has the potential to be one of the best, if not THE best, outfields in terms of defense and offense. Well, to me.

+1 Washington cost them that WS. I don't even know how he still has his job... So when Boston won the Series back in 1903 the attendance for the game was only 8K, about half of the usual because management had sold the tix that the "royal rooters" used to sit in while they were in Pittsburgh  Did you know the original Baltimore Orioles actually moved to NY and eventually become the Yankees? ^ Toronto if i were you i would hold onto my pieces, don't make trades for the sake of trades, let's be real you guys are probably not winning it all. Ronald Belisario detained by immigration in Miami as he spent his break in Venezuela........ What was this guy partying with now

C'mon Nationals, be serious. You're not really shutting down Strasburg are you? You've got the best record in the National League, are in prime position to make a deep run in October... and you still plan on shelving your best pitcher in early September?!?

I agree with what you said about what you say about Toronto. I only want to make a trade if it doesn't cost us our future and more than one or two of Gose, Hech or D'Arneud or the low A ball pitchers. And only for a player under control for more than this season.

I don't understand why they don't bring him back for the playoffs (after what will likely be a 3-4 week rest), if even for a limited capacity. There's really no evidence suggesting that this will work (see Chamberlein, Joba), nor do I understand what makes 160 innings some sort of a magic number. If they're really serious about 160 innings, why not shut him down for the regular season when he has like 130 so they can get 4 starts out of him in the postseason?

Or maybe have him pitch every other scheduled start (once every 10 games) from now until the end of the season? Use a long reliever in a spot-start role for those games Strasburg would be skipping.

Heh, of course it'd be Yankee fans with that sentiment. Teams with payrolls under $200 million don't have the luxury of assuming "many Octobers". When the opportunity is there, you need to take it. It's not like we're talking about a team 3 games back in the Wildcard; no, this is a team with the best record in the National League.

Marlins and Phillies have both significantly played below expectations this season, helping to put the Nationals in their current position. Can the Nationals afford to assume their downturns are going to extend for several years?

And how many of those "many Octobers" will even include Strasburg? Counting arbitration, the Nationals control him through 2016. As a Scott Boras client, it's reasonable to assume that he will not sign any extensions until free agency hits, which naturally means the Nats GM will have to seriously consider trade offers in 2015 (if he hopes to get any sort of decent compensation package). It's entirely possible that after this year, Strasburg will be with the team for only another 2.5 or 3 seasons.

Realistically, how many Octobers can the Nationals hope to play with Stasburg in the future? 2 if things go well?

It has nothing to do with being a Yankee fan. The fact is, HE'S COMING OFF TOMMY JOHN SURGERY. He hasnt had the time to build up his arm strength, thus increasing his chances at re-injuring it. Do you really want another Mark Prior situation where a gifted pitcher ruins himself because he over-threw? I don't want him to throw because I am a baseball fan. I want to see him be dominant for 15 more years, not just this one season. And don't worry about money. Washington DC is hardly a small market. If they can afford to pay Jayson Werth a big contract, then they will be able to afford Strasburg once he is eligible for free agency. Throwing 200 innings for a young pitcher coming of TJS is a HORRIBLE idea.

The surgery was in 2010. It's been two years. He returned to pitch in 2011.

Nobody's asking for 130 pitch starts like the Cubs did with Prior, nor is anyone asking for 200+ innings. There are ways of reducing his workload without completely cutting him off right when he's needed the most.

Strasburg pitched 68 IP in 2010 (his 1st year), 24 IP after coming back from TJ. I say 160 IP, a 136 IP jump is enough for a guy coming out of TJ. And 130 pitch or 85 don't matter, pitchers don't get hurt because pitching too much, but by pitching while being fatigue. I didn't the Nats organization last year when they brought him back "so soon" last season but it proved to be the right decisions by building confidence on Steven for this season. So I won't second guess the Nats this time. And yes, a rotation with (a healthy) Strasburg, Gio Gonzalez, Zimmerman and E. Jackson plus Harper and Co. suggest many Octobers to come. Washington ain't a small market team, they can remain competitive with smart decisions, like limiting Strasburg's innings this year. No matter how bad Oleg or the Nats fans want to go for it this is the right decision, for the kid and for the franchise in the long run.

There are ways, the Nats just haven't been doing any of them. I've heard that they could have scratched him in his last start, and waited 5 days to pitch him again after the break. But they seem to have the plan set in their head to shut him down.

Last 10 games is something along the lines of .210/.419/.375, with 1 HR and 4 RBI. I'd much rather keep Davis in left, or call up Thames. And even though Davis is 0 for his last 22...I'd still have him over both. About the Philles...I don't know how many of those loses, or the lack of wins, is on him. I believe he's had very little run support in most of his starts. But ya...they may regret a few of them. And they may lose Hamels and Victorino, Doc is getting older, but a FA after next year if option not picked up, and they have so many injury questions. All those dreams of a World Series seem to be gone.

I still don't understand why they spent so much on Papelbon. Actually, I'll never understand why teams spend so much on "closers".

But that's a lot of money spent on just a handful of guys. Most of whom are/were hurt, old or both.

I think he'd do fine in the AL. There may be an adjustment period, but he's just way too good. Small sample sizes, but he's done well against a majority of AL teams..excellent against Boston. Cleveland and Baltimore give him the most trouble. Not to mention he's an NLCS and WS MVP winner...I'd love that experience on the Jays rotation. But I think he goes to the Dodgers, or stays.

Regarding the topic, I think Detroit stays hot and gets into the playoffs, Miami will get better, but no playoffs, and Arizona will be a lot better...even if it hasn't shown. And the Reds start torun away with the NL Central And I HOPE the Jays will be better than .500 and play some meaningful September baseball.

Not in the question, but teams that fall, in my opinion, are the Orioles, Mets, Pirates, Indians and Tampa. And I think the Cubs and Phills sell off a lot, and get worse.

What pitcher from the Cubs would you rather have right now, if you could trade? Garza, who is more expensive, but if you're an AL team, he's pitched well in the AL East, and under contro until 2014l.

Or Ryan Dempster, who has been on of the best pitchers in baseball, and would be cheaper. But he is older and a FA at the end of the season. I guess it all depends on your teams situation. Both are great options though, if the price is right.

Depends on the team. If I am an NL team, I'll take Dempster, but I would go Garza if I am an AL team. I hope the Yankees make a deal for Garza. He's a beast, plus he looks like Rob Van Winkle.

Oh snap! They say season 4 of breaking bad should be on Netflix now that 5 is coming out :) Did you guys see how the Dodgers lost last night? You can always see something new in this game! Correct Tony Danza! That's why Hamles is coming to Chavez Ravine! :D As far as the Strasburg, i'll believe it when i see it, if they actually have a chance to miss the playoffs the fans will start crying and we'll see what happens... I was always irritated by the people who wore random baseball caps of teams they didn't even like just for fashion............but i just ordered a B-More O's cap http://www.amazon.com/Baltimore-Orioles-Authentic-New-Era/dp/B006GTY55U/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1342394433&sr=8-2&keywords=orioles+hat Oh man that logo is sick!

I agree with the fashion statement, but I have always thought that Orioles cap was different. It just doesnt look like a MLB cap. I remember when Bucky Lasek won a gold medal at the X-Games wearing that same cap.

In regards to the latest poll, Tigers are only 2.5 games back, and would actually claim one of the Wildcard spots if the season ended today. So I guess you have to pick them by default?

Bautista on the 15 day DL. Anthony Gose called up.

I wanted to see Gose, but not under this circumstance. Kinda surprised Snider not here..but Gose has played a bit better.

Royals DFA Jonathan Sanchez.

What a bad trade that was for KC.

Mariners have scored 229 runs on the road. That's the most in the Majors. Yeah, seriously.

They've also scored 126 at home. That's the fewest.

Well...if Jose's injury is long term, there goes our season IMO.

The Jays' season has been done for a while now.

The Jays' season has been done for a while now.

They were 1.5 out 2 days ago. Morrow comes back soon, the offense is one of the best in baseball and has carried us and will continue to do so. And we have the ability to go out and get...pretty much anyone, our system is THAT good. Hmels, Garza, Upton, maybe even 2 of them. Chances were slim because of how many teams were invloved, but far from done.

Royals won the trade but look at his BABIP, this won't keep up. Contract year too. Buyers beware.

Suddenly things may be looking up for the sox. Crawford, Ellsbury, Pedroia, Middlebrooks, and Bucholtz are back with mostly success. Aaron Cook has been looking good since coming back in mid-June, Gonzalez and Ross have been heating up and hitting for power, while Ciriaco has continued to play well after breaking out in the pre-all star Yankees series. Of couse, Ortiz's injury DL stint has put a bit of a dampler on all of this, but from all accounts it should be nothing more than a 15-day stint.

Yeah, I'm not so sure. This has been the story of the Sox so far. Great strides followed by horrendous slumps.

Travis Snider pulled from AAA after hitting a HR in the 2nd inning tonight. It was a bat around inning, and was pulled when he came up again in the inning.

In (maybe) related news...Aubrey Huff was pulled in the 3rd in his rehab game (I think rehab). Now I've read and heard a lot of speculation Brandon Belt could be on the block. Snider may need a chance of scenery, and the Jays have a thing for underachieving players who have fallen out of favor (Escobar, Rasmus, and Morrow underachieved, but no doghouse).

I heard Escobar would be moved, as they aren't happy with Crawford or..the other guy in SF, and we have Hechavarria ready and waiting. But Snider could make sense.

Probably looking way too much into it, and either (somehow) an injury, or a callup.

The Braves are up 10-9 on the Nationals in the 9th. They were down 9-0 earlier in the game. Wow.

edit: AND THEN BLEW IT LOL.

Braves win 11-10. Game of the year for Atlanta.

I will love the day when we get rid of Beckett. Him and Lester have been screwing us up the most.
