Wil Myers was named this year's 2012 Minor League Player of the Year, but won't get a September call-up. The Royals inexplicably insist they don't have room on their 40 man roster. That's bullcrap.

Yeah, but it's such a shame. I understand completely for the royals, but as a baseball fan, I'd kill to watch as many nnew young superstars as possible.

And on another note, I hope the Angels finish better than the Tigers, and I hope Mike Trout gets out of this semi-slump he is in so he can get the MVP, but the Miguel Cabrera bandwagon is getting hotter. At this point though, I'd choose Hamilton over Miggy. But Trout is still my number 1 choice.

Everyone keep A's pitcher Brandon McCarthy and his family in your thoughts.

Struck by a line drive a few days ago, underwent a 2 hour surgery to relieve pressure on his brain. He suffered a skull fracture and a epidural hemorrhage. He's in stable condition but still is in a life threatening situation.

Apparently its cause the metal side of it is getting to him, not physical. All the questions about his innings limit.... Hey Nats, if you didn't want questions about it, maybe you shouldn't have A) been so public about it or B) change your mind and let him pitch. There...no more questions.

Yankees just got screwed. Jerry Meals at it again.

And Nick Markakis is out for the season with a broken bone in his thumb after getting HBP by Sabathia. Huge blow for them.

Buster Posey is now the favorite for NL MVP. Consider this:

  • His AVG/OBP/SLG line after the All Star break is .388/.464/.654. MVP voters like seeing big second half numbers.
  • Baseball Prospectus currently has him leading the NL in VORP and WAR. Voters are much more aware of those stats now compared to 10 years ago.
  • With Melky Cabrera suspended, Posey is basically now the Giants' entire offense. Voters enjoy picking players who carry an abnormally large percentage of their team's production.
  • Giants are winning their division, while the teams for the other major MVP candidates (Braun and McCutchen) are both struggling for a Wildcard spot. While there are certainly exceptions, voters historically tend to favor those who make the playoffs.
  • He's a better-than-average catcher. Voters recognize a .300 hitting catcher is more valuable than a .300 hitting first baseman or outfielder.

Sure looking like it. Does anyone think the Phillies could actually make the playoffs/1 game playoff? 5 back of STL and on a roll. STL is hurting right now...Berkman out for the year, Westbrook missing a start. And Philly is winning tonight. As we saw last year...it isn't over till it's over.

3 back now. Still a couple of teams to jump before STL, but LAD and Pittsburgh are sliding. I hope they somehow make it in. I need someone to root for. If not..guess I'll root for Votto.

I know I sure didn't. Through all the problems we've had, he's the one bright spot.

He's had quite the journey. He was a throw in from the Reds, played some really crappy defense, was sent down to AAA and DFA 2 years ago, released last year, claimed by the A's, who also released him, re-signed with us. After not hitting a home run till May, fans were yelling for his release and Lawrie up last season...now this.

Just like Bautista, if we're in any kind of race, he's a MVP candidate.

I disagree with the no way in hell part. The Braves HAVE to win tonight to be 5.5 back. The Braves have an easier schedule the rest of the way. The only really tough opponents for the Braves is the Phils in a 3 game series. Other than that, just the Fish, the Mets, and the Pirates. Fish have been a dissapointment all year, Mets are the Mets, and the Pirates are fading. Nats on the other hand, have the Dodgers, Brewers, 2 series against the Phils, and the Cards, ALL teams who are in the playoff hunt. The average winning % of the teams who the Braves play the rest of the way: .494. The Nats: .519. Is it realistic? No, but if things go the right........there is hope. Just need to win tonight and not be 7.5 Back. (Though, I am not too scared of the 2nd WC if Kershaw is out for the year.)

I was willing to give the 2nd WC a chance since it makes it harder in the postseason for the WC winners, but this is a joke now! After watching 4 games between the Red Bird and my Dodgers neither of these teams belong in the postseason! Selig you should be ashamed of yourself! The regular season should matter more not less! Imagine if the Brewers or Phillies manage to crawl into October? Only to get embarrassed? Even if we have Kershaw win the 1 game playoff, there's nobody left to pitch in the LDS and our bullpen is crap. It was thanks to Kemp and his hot start that this team got 17 games over .500, but then his injuries came on and they've been nosediving ever since, even with the new acquisitions. Maybe in the AL it isn't the same but come on now, we know at the end of the day the A's and O's won't be able to hang with the likes of the Rangers and Yankees.

In some ways, it does make the regular season more important, in that it makes winning the division more important. I don't like the one game thing. If it were me, it would've been a 3 game series, and maybe a slightly shorter regular season.

I think I read that the thought behind no 3 game set is that it would push the WS to far. And my opinion is if goes the whole 3 games in 3 days, that puts the winner at a real disadvantage. If the AL or NLDS started the very next day, the winner would either use its #1 on 3 days rest, or it's #4 starter, if they actually used their top 3 starters. I think they'd still consider changing it, this is a...feeling out process. I think it'd work if they shortened the season and did a 3 game set.

I'd think taking 5 or 10 games off (allowing a full cycle of the standard 5 man rotation) the regular season would be fine.

Some are saying it could be a prank. If it is, why go along with it? How is this funny? And if he did it, why didn't a player'/coach say anything. There are plenty of Spanish players/coaches there including our best player this season and Omar Vizquel. Hope some action happens.

It's not funny in any way. I try to be lenient with my students but in no way is f___t tolerated, especially in a high school environment. I actually saw the pic first and understood what it said right away. Let's hope that no one actually saw instead of people blowing it off. The last thing the MLB is another stupid player besides this moron.

He has gotten worse since he's come here. And lately, he's gone out and had to make every possible infield fly. And he's really ticked off Lawrie, Johnson and Vizquel. No hustle, poor base running, and now bad stats and this...if they were thinking of moving him, I hope this is the final straw. And I hope whoever saw it told Farrell and/or other coaches. He was benches yesterday with the flu, along with another player. Now the one guy could have, and Escobar was benched for this. Now the MLB is investigating it. Good. If the Jays don't do anything, maybe MLB will. Still wanna hear how this happened and who wrote it.

Simmons sure does make me just want to forget about Braves ever having him........I still remember when he almost got Glaus injured when Glaus was hot due to a lazy play. No excuse for that message. I hope he's out of baseball soon.

Escobar suspended 3 games, and hands over that portion of the salary to GLAAD and the You Can Play.

And hopefully cut him at seasons end.

Thanks for the link. I didn't see one up when I posted, only Twitter.

You want to cut him over that? You might be going overboard with this. You would really hate Xbox live...Oh boy, so much slurs it would drive you nuts. And spare me the you must hate g a y people garbage, because I don't. I just happen to think cutting him over this is too far.

I think he wants to cut him because he sucks and not worth his attitude.

Hope so. Cutting him over this would be silly.

Medlen has been superb since he joined the rotation. Wonder who will start the play in game for the Braves, him or Hudson. Medlen has been more dominant of recent, but Hudson is the veteran

What Ring_of_fire said. I want him cut/traded for multiple reasons. Attitude, lack of effort (or sometimes pissing other players off), playing poorly and we have a younger, probably better SS ready to go. This just adds to it all AA said he was ready to release him. I don't see why cutting him is bad. I don't want someone like him representing Toronto, Rogers and the Blue Jays. Especially since he still doesn't seem to get it.

I'm really looking forward to the playoffs...well, I always am. But some of the teams this year..Baltimore, Oakland, CWS, Washington, Cincinnati, just seem to make it even more interesting this year. Guess it's cause it's a change from the usual like Philly, Boston, TB, etc. Loss of Brett Anderson really hurts the A's, but they've done it without him to this point. They could be dangerous if they win the WC game.
