http://www.twitchguru.com/2007/08/27/bioshock_drm/ -> read this and there's a lot of reasons but it boils down to DRM being installed on your machine and not being able to play a legally owned copy. And once installed it's near impossible for the generic PC user to unisntall the DRM.

Another reason is you can rent it on the 360 instead of needing to pay full price on the PC. After all it only has single player and a couple different endings. How many times can you read the same book and still be excited about reading it again. Reminds me of condemned. Fantastic game everyone said buy it! I did. beat it. Loved it. Haven't touched it again.

So PC has better graphics (if you have a rig that can handle it), but you have to install Sony owned DRM to play it. And you can only install it a few times before you can't install it anymore.

What if, your 360 gets the Rings of death after playing Bioshock, or scratches the disk?

I think I'l leave SWs soon, since Sheep/Cows are just in the shadows, I dont want to stick around for the lemmings mindless assualt against the hermits ... not with this kinda mentality :( I'd prefer my I.Q to remain highish thanks ;)

Actually rent argument has been around for a long time. I've said it before and it's true. I guess if you can't refute it, you can TRY to dismiss it, but you'll sound silly.

Kind of like me saying, "Here we go wtih the hermits making the better Graphics argument". Well it's true...and so is the rent argument.

Crack and mods FTW.aznfool07

Plus DRM FTL.

Cracks are illegal to boot. So it's not a viable option for honest people.

Not really, a PC and Console game can have the same graphical ability, the PC won't automatically be better, it has to be programmed to be able to better on the PC. So the PC arguement only works if the game was built to look better on the PC. The renting argument it just plan stupid, you can rent any console game, you can't use that to argue for one game.

You can rent PC games though, so it makes your arguement completely void -.- , and you can play online, because that same CD is available, unless someone who rented it before you decided to crack CD and is playing it , in which case its highly unlikely you will log online the same time as them to play.

And that has what to do with the DRM and non-availability to rent Bioshock on the PC? Oh it has nothing to do with it...I guess that's what we call damage control in SW.

Why can't people just admit, yep DRM thing with Bioshock sucks and it would be nice to rent it. But {enter reason here} I still prefer the PC version.

All my PC parts have separate warranties, and I can make Legal backups of my disks. I would never have to send in my whole system. I could also DL an ISO of the disk and use my CD-Key. since I own the game. With PC there are ways around the problem but with the 360 you can get screwed. Also how about mods?

I just paid $40 for it at Circuit City. There's the one damned fine reason why PC>360. Why would you rent this game anyways? Get it out of your head that multiplayer is a requirement for purchase. This is a really long really awesome game worth owning to anyone. Multiplayer would've ruined it (except coop).

And devs a lot of the time just kill the DRM with a patch after a couple months.

Really? Give me a link to rent Bioshock? I don't want to go to blockbuster and rent it (probably out anyway), so if I can rent the PC version I'll do it right now (assuming it's the same price as a console rental).

BTW: I get console rentals "free" 1 per month with my Blockbuster total access; however, I'll go by the rate BB charges for those that pay per rental.

DRM means 5 installs per liscense , ok you cant rent Bioshock for that reason but not many gaems use this system ... and besides, you should not be completing games on rental thats just as much robbery, Renting is just to see if you like it, like demos.

See my other thread about why rent it. As I was digging around the Internets finding out if I wanted the PC version instead to own (for mods and such) I saw the DRM thing and said...yep it's a rental. Since without mods it really isn't much worth replaying. And really good mods won't be out for a while anyway. So Rent for 360 for now. Then if good mods are out AND the DRM is removed then I can get it.

Just a single player, so it may be worth a rental on the 360.

but on pc with mods its value can be increased and therefore its worth to buy it on a pc.

also, from above its obvious, bioshock on pc > bioshock on 360

They license it that way, so it's perfectly fine. If they don't like it...don't license it for rent. Or make the game better where it can't be completed in a rental period.

Resorting to the rental arguement because we've practically beat you out of house and home when it comes to everything else? This is just getting downright funny. In case you didn't know, the PC does have pay by the hour services and off shore rental sites. Not only that, but ever heard of an internet gaming cafe? Thats EXACTLY like renting a game. LAWL I DON'T HAVE TO PAY FOR A PC I CAN GO TO A INTERNET GAMING CAFE.

Actually I think both are a Buy not a rental since with the 360 version will get Downloadable Content, and PC version has Mods.

and TC good thing you didn't mention the problem with Securucom (spelling?) because I'm sick of people complaining about that everyday on the 2K forums and it is always the same people.

I think you guys put way too much value on mods. Sure some are fun and can be big hits, but the most are crap and I don't play too many of them on my PC.

Good analogy. This truly is a funny quote, I can't believe he said that either. Normally he has much better come backs to PC vs. console issues. However, this is one hermits need to accept and (most likely) just say yeah console has us beat there, but we still prefer PC for the other advantages.

Everybody slips up :D , but no Im not agreeing with your point, Renting isnt the same as owning, if you want to own a game, and get the most out of it, the PC is the cheaper option.

First of all, everyone is getting a fantastic game despite what platform they get it on.

Second, I agree with the Hermits, the mods they are going to get will make it a longer lasting purchase for them.

Link for gaming internet cafe in SE Virginia/NC/SC where they have internet cafe's with 110" screens and recliners. That's the gaming experience I prefer, so it's very much on target. And I have a PC and 360 hooked up to it. So why do I want to go to the Internet cafe again? When I can either get the game for my 360 or PC.

PC I have to pay a lot more for the game and since it's mainly a story game there isn't much replayability to it I'd be better off renting it. This doesn't work for all games. Like Starcraft...that's a definite buy on the PC. Halo3 definite buy on the 360. But after wasting the money on condemned (love the game, but there's no reason to replay it) I won't be wasting money on single player story/environment driven games. That can be beaten in under 20 hours.

Heres how much I care about YOU....mmm NONE. You're going off on a random tangent again that doesn't relate to my original post what-so-ever. I disproved you on the rental thing. So you don't have to buy the game? WELL HECK I DON'T EVEN HAVE TO BUY A PC. BOOYAH FOO.

I wouldn't count on too many good Bioshock mods. I don't think the developers are supporting them either.Deihmos

The problem I have with mods is that you have to play a bunch of garbage (waste time) and when you're lucky you find a good one. But the really really great mods are rare and when they come out most people do get word of it.

[QUOTE="Vandalvideo"][QUOTE="mikasa"]

[QUOTE="Vandalvideo"]Resorting to the rental arguement because we've practically beat you out of house and home when it comes to everything else? This is just getting downright funny. In case you didn't know, the PC does have pay by the hour services and off shore rental sites. Not only that, but ever heard of an internet gaming cafe? Thats EXACTLY like renting a game. LAWL I DON'T HAVE TO PAY FOR A PC I CAN GO TO A INTERNET GAMING CAFE.mikasa

Go ahead and make that argument. It stupid as heck. Do they have 110" screens at those gaming cafes? And a sofa or recliner to sit back and relax as you play?

Why yes they do actually. However, thats not what we're discussing remember? Don't go off on tangents. I won't stand for it. You brought up rentals, I brought up the antithesis, Internet gaming cafes.

Wait wait Wait ... 110 inch screens? .... isnt this getting abit unrealistic, by the average console gamers standards, hell hardly any have HDTV's as of yet? I dont know wasnt the figure 10% awhile back? let alone giant televisions like that ....?

But I agree with your second paragraphic, I havnt touched Bioshock since completing it, as fas as I'm concerned 1 time playthoughts of single-player games are enough unless they are un-scripted. in which case I could of easily rented the 360 demo like you said.

But then again, I can come back in a few weeks/motnhs time to a load of mods that will do interesting things to the game again for me.

are you getting the point?

Check TC name...hey that's me. Now who was the original poster to this thread? Oh it's me.

By your lack of a real response, I can see you have lost this one point. Why not just admit it and move on. Say you like the mods so still the DRM is worth dealing with and since you prefer mods you want to own it.

But not everyone loves mods nor do all games have great mods. When Bioshock has the great mod making the replay of the game worth the $40 then let me know. But for now the game is a rental game on the 360.

mods> your argument.Guiltfeeder566

It doesn't allow mods. And if you switch out your hardware a safety thing will stop you from playing the game again.

EDIT: Stupid computer connection thing...

Nice try, but I have no reason to response to irrelevant CRAP. The fact of the matter is you brought up rentals. Thats fine and dandy, INTERNET GAMING CAFES FOO. I don't even have to buy a PC. As far as your demands, They're rediculous. The major consumer doesn't have a 110 inch screen, LET ALONE AN HDTV. You're being down right ludicrous and silly. Leave now.
