[QUOTE="mikasa"][QUOTE="Vandalvideo"][QUOTE="mikasa"]

[QUOTE="Vandalvideo"]Resorting to the rental arguement because we've practically beat you out of house and home when it comes to everything else? This is just getting downright funny. In case you didn't know, the PC does have pay by the hour services and off shore rental sites. Not only that, but ever heard of an internet gaming cafe? Thats EXACTLY like renting a game. LAWL I DON'T HAVE TO PAY FOR A PC I CAN GO TO A INTERNET GAMING CAFE.Meu2k7

Go ahead and make that argument. It stupid as heck. Do they have 110" screens at those gaming cafes? And a sofa or recliner to sit back and relax as you play?

Why yes they do actually. However, thats not what we're discussing remember? Don't go off on tangents. I won't stand for it. You brought up rentals, I brought up the antithesis, Internet gaming cafes.

Link for gaming internet cafe in SE Virginia/NC/SC where they have internet cafe's with 110" screens and recliners. That's the gaming experience I prefer, so it's very much on target. And I have a PC and 360 hooked up to it. So why do I want to go to the Internet cafe again? When I can either get the game for my 360 or PC.

PC I have to pay a lot more for the game and since it's mainly a story game there isn't much replayability to it I'd be better off renting it. This doesn't work for all games. Like Starcraft...that's a definite buy on the PC. Halo3 definite buy on the 360. But after wasting the money on condemned (love the game, but there's no reason to replay it) I won't be wasting money on single player story/environment driven games. That can be beaten in under 20 hours.

Wait wait Wait ... 110 inch screens? .... isnt this getting abit unrealistic, by the average console gamers standards, hell hardly any have HDTV's as of yet? I dont know wasnt the figure 10% awhile back? let alone giant televisions like that ....?

But I agree with your second paragraphic, I havnt touched Bioshock since completing it, as fas as I'm concerned 1 time playthoughts of single-player games are enough unless they are un-scripted. in which case I could of easily rented the 360 demo like you said.

But then again, I can come back in a few weeks/motnhs time to a load of mods that will do interesting things to the game again for me.

are you getting the point?

Yes 110". It's not a TV it's an HD projector on a 110" screen. Condemned was fantastic on it. And I bet Bioshock will be good on it as well. Games like burnout are a bit tougher though as a smaller screen would make it easier for my eyes to catch the action of the oncoming traffic, but it's more fun on the big screen (feels like you're really in the car...wel somewhat).

Mods are one reason making the PC verson better, that's understood. Some like mods some don't. For me, I found myself wasting way too much time findind a decent mod on games, that I pretty much gave it up unless one was so huge and great everyone was talking about it.

But until the great uber fantastic mod for bioshock comes out, it's still just a guess as if the buy will be worth it. So for now....it's a rental with a buy later if a fantastic mod comes out. And by that time the PC price may be about $20.

this thread fails in so many ways its not funny, mods and better porformance and gameplay far outweigh DRM that will be hacked and removed and the fact that if you want to you can get this game FOR FREE on pc, without even having to spend 7 dollars or whatever to rent it.

[QUOTE="Deihmos"]I wouldn't count on too many good Bioshock mods. I don't think the developers are supporting them either.mikasa

The problem I have with mods is that you have to play a bunch of garbage (waste time) and when you're lucky you find a good one. But the really really great mods are rare and when they come out most people do get word of it.

Wow, just wow. All you have to do is go to a filefront mod site based on a game, like Half Life 2 files. There you can see top ranked mods and read user reviews. There's hundreds of awesome mods out there for this game alone. For ex, last week I dled the new Cinematic mod for HL2, a 3.2GB file providing way better textures and fixes over the original game. Can 360 owners do that?

Oh, the mod was self installing and appeared right in my Steam games list where I can select it, owned!

DRM means 5 installs per liscense , ok you cant rent Bioshock for that reason but not many gaems use this system ... and besides, you should not be completing games on rental thats just as much robbery, Renting is just to see if you like it, like demos.

Now, while the game does have SecuROM as part of its installer, it does not have a rootkit as was previously reported. This was initially thought due to a rootkit sniffer that came from Microsoft, but this was found later to be a mis-report.

Now you may think that Bioshock is better, but to be honest, I don't rent games. I buy all of my 360 games, PC games and I have bought all my Xbox and PS2 games. I just feel that if I want a game, I would rather buy it, because half the time, iend up forgetting to return the game and after late fees, I end up half way to owning the game.

Next, I bought the collectors edition, which would be difficult to rent, because they would probably want the figurine back.

Graphics are important to me, so the PC version will be superior (I have two 7800GT cards running at 1920x1200, so power is not an issue). The game runs great and looks fantastic.

Also, I have bought every game that Irrational Games has made. From System Shock 2 to Bioshock, they have always made quality games, so I always will support them by purchasing their games. If you want more games of this caliber, you should want to purchase them, be it console or PC. I know that dollars in the developers pockets get more great games like this made.

[QUOTE="mikasa"]By your lack of a real response, I can see you have lost this one point. Why not just admit it and move on. Say you like the mods so still the DRM is worth dealing with and since you prefer mods you want to own it.But not everyone loves mods nor do all games have great mods. When Bioshock has the great mod making the replay of the game worth the $40 then let me know. But for now the game is a rental game on the 360.Vandalvideo
Nice try, but I have no reason to response to irrelevant CRAP. The fact of the matter is you brought up rentals. Thats fine and dandy, INTERNET GAMING CAFES FOO. I don't even have to buy a PC. As far as your demands, They're rediculous. The major consumer doesn't have a 110 inch screen, LET ALONE AN HDTV. You're being down right ludicrous and silly. Leave now.

Once again checks TC name...hey that's me. If someone needs to leave this thread, it should be you. Especially since you're not even willing to refute or discuss any issue on this thread. You're just coming in do take a dump on any thread that exposes the PCs weaknesses.

Go ahead, keep your fingers in your ears and screamming..."NANA DA BOO BOO...I CAN'T HEAR YOU". But please go do that in the other room so you don't interrupt others that are discussing/debating the issue rationally.

I reitterate, you bringing up rentals is equivalent to me bringing up internet gaming cafes. I already refuted your outstanding points on Bioshock. I don't even have to buy a PC, I can just drive down to an internet gaming cafe and spend 10 bucks to play it. Woot. Just saved 400+ dollars instead of buying a 360.

Can you really spend $10 and play on a bigscreen TV in a recliner for 40 hours at an internet cafe? If so, link please or I don't believe it.

Well, don't install it on more then 2 machines, and I'm sure 2k will have this fixed in the near future. BTW my budget gaming computer ($570 computer) can run Bioshock at max settings... It hardly takes a super computer to run it... Better graphics, mods, and community support makes the PC version better then the 360 version. You'll just try to find any stupid reason to make PC gaming look bad won't you.

if YOU are HAPPY with giving the devs a couple bucks for their trouble making this game (and it's probably less depending on where you rent) then you ARE as morally devoid as people that pirate the entire game. maybe slightly less as some renters (and piraters) do buy what they like -- but putting this forward as a pro, and arguing that PC is not as good because you can't rent, and then ALSO telling pirates they're conducting illegal activities is morally reprehensible in the highest order as far as SW and gaming is concerned.

sit and think about what you're saying for a bit - seriously.

10 > 400? Wow, nice math! Lets bring up the Lets Play Cafe in my area. They give you a "Gamer Pass" for 10 dollars that lasts for as long as you're in there and you can even use it for multiple days.

By the hour is a realllllly bad idea. You'll get price gouged. However, they do offer seasonal passes for much cheaper that give you unlimited play time, food, etc. Go check out www.lpcgaming.com

My local videostore has $1 rentals on Tuesdays, so I really agree about the renting part. Games cost $100 retail here so you can really save a lot of cash if it's the type of game you only want to play through once. I will probably buy Bioshock, 20 hours seems to be a decent length. I didn't buy Gears or a lot of others though.

Finally a reasonable post and reason why someone prefers the PC version. But still it appears he understands why others find renting better (because he doesn't attack renting as stupid or illegal).

And yes I never said it was a rootkit, but I did say DRM. And if you read the link you'll see that the DRM has many negative effects on the PC/game for many people. And truth be told it probably won't stop the hackers very long. So the hackers will get the game and the legit buyers are screwed over.

But as you said, there are some advantages to the PC game that make that issue worth it to get the game on the PC.

10 > 400? Wow, nice math! Lets bring up the Lets Play Cafe in my area. They give you a "Gamer Pass" for 10 dollars that lasts for as long as you're in there and you can even use it for multiple days.

So how does that gamer pass work? How can you use it for multiple days and as long as you want to play? So it sounds like it's $10 play all you want whenever you want! If so, that's a great deal. Link Please?

[QUOTE="Meu2k7"]you should not be completing games on rental thats just as much robbery, Renting is just to see if you like it, like demos.CaseyWegner

are you serious? what about renting movies? are you supposed to watch maybe the first 15 minutes and if it turns out that you like it you should turn it off and go buy it?

Casey - this is pretty lame coming from you. games aren't in the same category when it comes to renting, you damned well know that game publishers and some devs are trying to legislate against second hand game sales and renting. if you don't, then well you need to a read a bit more, heh :) and besides, even if it is legal it doesn't mean it's morally correct -- i'd feel like a chump if I just rented every game I played without giving the publishers / devs what is due. how is it different than pirating? i still pay my internet provider -- it's not like the devs / publishers see a fraction of what rental companies make on each title (unless its a turd that is).

Movies are set to rent when the film has exited it's initial marketing window (post screen) - this does not exist with gaming and many many publishers have been trying to change this since i started working in the industry over 10 years ago. games should be given the same gap that movies have - but the debate always stalls when trying to definie the exit point for the initial marketing window. don't be suprised when games catch up to movies and this becomes truth -- i don't think it's that crazy to think it could happen.

By the hour is a realllllly bad idea. You'll get price gouged. However, they do offer seasonal passes for much cheaper that give you unlimited play time, food, etc. Go check out www.lpcgaming.com

$50.00 for 6 months is a pretty good deal O_O.Its alot cheaper than Gamefly $15.95 a month.

Bioshock is worth owning first of all. 2nd of all I have never had problems with that whole DRM thing anyways.

so its better because it has less security and you have to pay for the game?

WTF?

BioShock PC : $49.99

BioShock 360: $59.99 :o

hmm...

Bioshock: $7 rental
Bioshock: FREE Rental with Total Access from Blockbuster (if you like movies)
Replayability of Bioshock: maybe 2 times...3 at best.
Length of gameplay: 10-20 hours.

[QUOTE="mclazyj"]

I know that dollars in the developers pockets get more great games like this made.

mikasa

Finally a reasonable post and reason why someone prefers the PC version. But still it appears he understands why others find renting better (because he doesn't attack renting as stupid or illegal).

And yes I never said it was a rootkit, but I did say DRM. And if you read the link you'll see that the DRM has many negative effects on the PC/game for many people. And truth be told it probably won't stop the hackers very long. So the hackers will get the game and the legit buyers are screwed over.

But as you said, there are some advantages to the PC game that make that issue worth it to get the game on the PC.

So all this time, you wanted a mutual agreeance, when your topic is labeled 360 version > PC versions for these to subjective to one particualar game's reasons?

I'm finding that hard to believe at this point, it could of been worse, the last guy earlier today used the rent excuse for all games.

but still, this is grasping for straws.

Omg, You are now having to resort to bringingup rentals into the arguement...sad

Even if you have 2 reasons, i have 4 reasons the pc version is better, so technically its still better.

1. cheaper ( i got it for £25 as apposed to £40 for the 360 version)

2. mods

3. better graphics

4. Mouse and keyboard OR 360controller

4 >>> 2

You lose.

i just want to point out one thing - and i'll try to keep the flamethrower on standby.

if YOU are HAPPY with giving the devs a couple bucks for their trouble making this game (and it's probably less depending on where you rent) then you ARE as morally devoid as people that pirate the entire game. maybe slightly less as some renters (and piraters) do buy what they like -- but putting this forward as a pro, and arguing that PC is not as good because you can't rent, and then ALSO telling pirates they're conducting illegal activities is morally reprehensible in the highest order as far as SW and gaming is concerned.

sit and think about what you're saying for a bit - seriously.

Really? So do you rent movies? or only buy them?

as i said already - movies are another bag altogether, to say anything different is ignorant at best.

Plus DRM FTL.

Cracks are illegal to boot. So it's not a viable option for honest people.

That depends on local law. For example, downloading music is legal in Canada.

Each establishment has different rules, so what I say for the Let's Play Cafe may greatly differ from internet gaming cafees around you. What they have for us, is that they give a seasonal pass for just 50 bucks ( price of a 360 game) that gives you increasingly cheaper and free hours, including discounts on food and beverage. I mean, if I worked out all the math, I could save a crap load of money on internet gaming cafes instead of using a PC or a 360. It would only cost me about 23 dollars to completely finish Bioshock. Thats a bargain when you consider the price of a PC/360.

Hey they have 360s, PS3s, and wiis as well. So your point of that being cheaper than the consoles is bogus. So the Internet cafe players price is the same. So back to the point for most that play at home....

Oh wait, you can't even play Bioshock at the link you provided. Oh wait, I was wrong...you can play bioshock there on the 360! But not the PC.
