Plus DRM FTL.

Cracks are illegal to boot. So it's not a viable option for honest people.

That depends on local law. For example, downloading music is legal in Canada.

So downloading bioshock and not paying is legal there too? IF SO, link?

If I had a yacht and sailed ten miles off shore it would be totally legal. :D

Omg, You are now having to resort to bringingup rentals into the arguement...sad

Even if you have 2 reasons, i have 4 reasons the pc version is better, so technically its still better.

1. cheaper ( i got it for £25 as apposed to £40 for the 360 version)

2. mods

3. better graphics

4. Mouse and keyboard OR 360controller

4 >>> 2

You lose.

/thread

:)

mikasa

I never said they were the only reasons. But for many they are good reasons not to get it on the PC.

Good reasons?

they were terrible.

For one as long as you uninstall bioshock before you install it you can install a billion time. The "2x" limit is how many you have installed at once.

Also, renting is a terrible arguement. I can borrow pretty much any game i like of one of my friends as one of them is bound to have it. In fact i still can't belive you think renting is a valid arguement as to why one version would be better than the other.

It boggles the mind :|

And to say renting games at BB is morally wrong is ignorant at best as well.

mikasa

hey the old playground tactic - someone says x is y so you fire back that z is y. good work.

games are in a grey area in terms of renting, if you don't know that / can't recognize it, then i can't help you.

if we all rented good single player games and did not buy them the devs would stop making them altogether and you could kiss goodbye to some super games like bioshock!

DRM means 5 installs per liscense , ok you cant rent Bioshock for that reason but not many gaems use this system ... and besides, you should not be completing games on rental thats just as much robbery, Renting is just to see if you like it, like demos.

Nerkcon

.........what the heck.

Its true. If you liked the game good for you, but is it fair they spend a few years to make a game to entertain you for a few days and enjoy yourself while they get nothing out of it?

i dont rent much ill probably rent 2-3 times a year since i usually buy the games or have some1 i know that has it. when i rent games i do try to play much as i can during that rental. i have finished some games during a rental and from that i have bought some of the games cause i really enjoyed it. they paid for the rental so they should decide on how they should play during their rental period. its better than ppl who play pirated games. the way i see it they ruined it for honest ppl who actually buy games on pc and consoles.

The 360 version of Bioshock is superior to the PC version because you can... rent it? You consider that a strong point? Really? That the console version of a game is better than the PC version because you don't have to buy it? That makes it better? I've truly never seen a dumber argument in my life, for anything. It's like saying you chose a Civic over a Mercedes because they let you test-drive the Civic.

lol, yeah. if you have a game that you would prefer renting rather than buying, who would really care about such a game.

ps: bioshock is not such a game

PC equivalent in power to the 360 = 630 give or take 30. More expensive? Yes. Better investment? Heck yes.

1. I have a high end gaming PC.

2. I' am not a generic PC user

3. I paid $40 for the game at CC when it came out

4. Mods keep the game going

Owning you= priceless,lol!

jd7-03

Woo! Nice response. I'll do my own :D

1. I own a high-end pc and a 360

2. I bought the game for my pc ($49.99 canadian, compared to 59.99 for the 360 version)

3. I had no problems with the DRM

4. They are removing the software thingy thiny (can't remember the name) as soon as the first purchase rush slows down, so after that you won't have to worry about activations.

5. Got me some dx10 (not a huge increase in visuals, but still a slight increase

6. Mods keep the game going!

Not to mention PC games are $50, not $60. I have a 360, too. People simply need to realize that high-end PCs are significantly more capable than consoles, period, and in a variety of ways. It's just a fact. That's why they're more expensive, but it's also why they're well worth it.

Oh my, you didn't just say this.

That's peoples argument for every awesome looking game. "Why would I pay $1500+ just to play one stupid game, *insert awesome game here*"

This excuse is also common in crysis discussions.

PC BioShock is better for a number of reasons.

/thread

Renting is not a vaild argument since I can borrow the BioShock from a friend or go the dark route and pirate it but since I'm a Ninja I probably won't.

http://www.twitchguru.com/2007/08/27/bioshock_drm/ -> read this and there's a lot of reasons but it boils down to DRM being installed on your machine and not being able to play a legally owned copy. And once installed it's near impossible for the generic PC user to unisntall the DRM.

Another reason is you can rent it on the 360 instead of needing to pay full price on the PC. After all it only has single player and a couple different endings. How many times can you read the same book and still be excited about reading it again. Reminds me of condemned. Fantastic game everyone said buy it! I did. beat it. Loved it. Haven't touched it again.

So PC has better graphics (if you have a rig that can handle it), but you have to install Sony owned DRM to play it. And you can only install it a few times before you can't install it anymore.

mods, keyboard+mouse control, and $10 cheaper makes the pc version FTW

although really both versions are great, and the only ones who lose when it comes to Bioshock are sheep and cows who don't own a high end pc

By the hour is a realllllly bad idea. You'll get price gouged. However, they do offer seasonal passes for much cheaper that give you unlimited play time, food, etc. Go check out www.lpcgaming.com

$50.00 for 6 months is a pretty good deal O_O.Its alot cheaper than Gamefly $15.95 a month.

Which is why I use internet gaming cafes sometimes. Even though I do end up buying the systems anyway. -_-

You must have a special deal or NEVER really used this place. According to the site it's not $50.00 for 6 months. That's just the membership fee.

"Member benefits include 5 free hours upon sign up, a $2.00 discount on hourly game rates, 1 free hour a month, and 10% off all food, beverages, and merchandise."

You can help, by providing a few links to where the publishers think it's morally wrong to rent a game. And if it's morally wrong why don't they just change the license agreement to say it's wrong or at DRM to their games to make it technically harder to borrow/rent games.

Besides renting is a stupid arguement. If everyone did it with every gamethere would be no games industry.

I don't hate PCs....I just dislike elitist hermits that thing the PC can do no wrong and that consoles are stupid. I used to be a hermit but when I opened back up to consoles I found they really are better now and a lot more enjoyable overall. Plus it's more affordable to play a lot of games that I rent vs. buying so many. I used to waste a ton of money on PC games, but with consoles I can rent then buy later if I love it.

Yeah, that sounds like what RIAA says about downloads of music. but that hasn't happened yet either.
Or another alternative would be games would be even better making them worth buying instead of renting.

You fail to read my post. "Thats why I use internet gaming cafes". I never said "I use lets play cafe". Let's play cafe is my working model here. They are very much less expensive than owning a platform and renting the game. There are tons of subscription plans out there for different places.

You beat it and have never played it again? I guess that lends credence to the PC version of the game and all the mods that you will be able to download to update the game.

I never said there aren't reasons that the PC version isn't better as well. My point is that they both have an advantage and depending on your situation you may find the 360 version better for you. Like if you don't want to be limited on which friends you let borrow your game. Or if you find the replayability of a story driven game next to nil....then renting is the best option for such a short game.

If better is only in graphics, then yes those with a mid or high end pc with a good graphics card will have the better version where as those without mid to high end pc with good graphics cards...the 360 version is better for them.

Or if you like mods...PC version is clearly better.

All my topic was doing is pointing out 2 valid reasons why many prefer bioshock on the 360.

[QUOTE="mikasa"]must have a special deal or NEVER really used this place. According to the site it's not $50.00 for 6 months. That's just the membership feeVandalvideo
You fail to read my post. "Thats why I use internet gaming cafes". I never said "I use lets play cafe". Let's play cafe is my working model here. They are very much less expensive than owning a platform and renting the game. There are tons of subscription plans out there for different places.

Let's try this again then. When asked for a link to prove your point dont' give a link that proves my point. Give one that let's you play 30 hours of bioshock for $10 on the PC. (We won't even worry about the big screen and recliner nor will we worry about not being able to play at 2AM.)

What you fail to realize is that internet gaming cafes don't always have websites. I had to use LPC to give a general working model. Most internet cafes are locally ran, not franchise chains. They don't have the money for elaborate websites. There are very much so internet cafes out there with such plans. (Or close to that effect).

4 >>> 2

You lose.

Read the article again...that unisntall thing doesn't work for everyone.

You can't borrow bioshock for the PC, well you can but you'll screw your friend over as it uses one of the licenses. Plus someone stil has to buy it.

no the uninstall and install thing does work. So i'll just uninstall it before i give it back.

Besides renting is a stupid arguement. If everyone did it with every gamethere would be no games industry.

That's not what the article said, but whatever you know more than the article that is reporting what other users are experiencing.

I thought internet cafe's would find the internet as a great source to advertise. But ok, give me a yellowpages.com name and phone number then I can call them. We can end this pretty quickly. Or just give me a phone number and I'll call them.

Let me just get right on that................not. If you're so entrenched in this you can call them for yourself. I personally don't know the name of the one that offered the deal I'm talking about. Its been quite some time. However, as I showed with LPC, internet gaming cafes have fair rates and a wide myriad of games to choose from. Its not a stretch to say that any internet gaming cafe could offer just as cheap an alternative for the PC as renting is for consoles. I've already proved that concept with LPC.

You beat it and have never played it again? I guess that lends credence to the PC version of the game and all the mods that you will be able to download to update the game.

You did not show that on that site. In fact, you proved my point. You can't even play Bioshock on the PC at that site...only on the 360. And it's $50 for 6 months PLUS hourly charges after the first 5 hours. That isn't as cheap as $7 at bb.

[QUOTE="muscleserge"]What if, your 360 gets the Rings of death after playing Bioshock, or scratches the disk?jt8b2z

What if, you have to buy a +1500 gaming computer to play a $60 game? 360 is only $400.

PC equivalent in power to the 360 = 630 give or take 30. More expensive? Yes. Better investment? Heck yes.

Not to mention PC games are $50, not $60. I have a 360, too. People simply need to realize that high-end PCs are significantly more capable than consoles, period, and in a variety of ways. It's just a fact. That's why they're more expensive, but it's also why they're well worth it.

here in the uk they ar £15 cheaper than new console games.

gives me a huge saving over the years. enough to upgrade ALOT ;)

Huge savings? I don't think so. In the long term, console users still save more money than PC users. To prove this point, lets do the math.

All prices are in USD by the way, but I'll use the 15 unit difference you say you have over there in the UK.

Lets assume you pay $1200 for your PC to start out with. Now, lets also assume you buy 30 games over the course of the next five years, each costing $45 on average. That's $1350. In total, you're paying $2550

Now for a console user, let's assume that they buy the $350 Premium Xbox 360. Now, in the interest of keeping variables the same, we'll assume that they also buy 30 games at $60 a piece. That's $1800. Altogether, that's $2150. $400 less than what the PC user paid.

Now I didn't add in Xbox Live fees or upgrades for the PC in the interest of keeping things simple. But sincethe average PC owner I talk to says they upgrade about once every 18 months to 2 years, this probably works out better for your argument anyways.

So where are these "huge savings" you speak of?

Why the hell would you rent bioshock anyway? it has 3 different endings and is one of the best games ever made. Bioshock is probably the best god damn game on the 360 and you just want to rent it.

You must no be into gaming as much as you make out.....:|

Either that or you are seriously lacking in funds. Or 360 game prices just put you off. Here in the uk bioshock was £15 cheaper to pre-order.

You forgot one important fact HOSS. You have to include the price of an xbox 360. 60 >400? HAH. With an internet gaming cafe, you don't even need to buy the platform. The site I provided gave a good guideline showing that its well within the realm of logic to make the distinction that internet gaming cafes are a much cheaper alternative for PC gamers.

20 games a year over the course of 5 years ( a consoles life)

300x5= £1500.

£1500 + £300 = £1800

enough to buy two high end gaming pc's in that 5 years.

Besides the fact i need a powerful cpu and ram for my degree course ( music, large music samples e.t.c.)

So really for my needs i need only factor in the graphics card.

Pc gaming is not only better but cheaper, for me at least.

A lot of people only want to rent it. It's a single player story driven game. So what it has 3 endings. With it only taking around 10-20 hours to finish it...it will only take 30 hours on average to play it twice. Plus there will be other games that come out after that....that will take my time and will be fresh. Halo3, Starcraft 2 (someday). Resident Evil 5, UT3, etc...

Who buys 20 console games/year? Unless you're a full time gamer and have no life/job. Plus are there even 20 good games worth buying each year? Renting is where it is at for the smart consumer. Only buy the ones that you will play time and time again.
