So, after the review there is a feeling that alan wake has ont got good graphic, when in fact has been praised for them by all sites

Now, lets break it down

Alan Wake has:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAM_gx5qH8g&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOBN04saU4I&feature=related

- huge scale, some levels are totally open and vast

- huge actual forests, with thick foliage and amazing detailall around you,you can even get lost in them

- weather effects and phsyics that affects all thoe huge detail in the world, foliage etc

- advanced volumetric lighting effects, with volume shadows too

- the most realistic looking water i have seen

- great filters that make even the most distant of foliage look amazing and everything look smooth

Uncharted 2 has

- great textures

- higher resolution

Alan Wake downfalls

- lower resolution, which does not really show much because of advanced next gen filters (it is nver like Halo 3 for example)

- some lower resolution textures close up, noticable in a few occasions the camera gets in the wrong position

Unchartd 2 downfalls

- tiny leves and minly moving in coriddors

- no advanced volumetric lighting

- no real forests or foliage mainly painted around levels

So, can you name one as winner ? And by what standards ?

I can play Pac man 3D in 1900x1080 on my PC, having 1.000.000 more pixels than Uncharted 2, does that make it better looking?

I'm sure the standards have not changed very much in only 8 months, especially considering Uncharted 2 is still the best looking game on consoles. You may like the way Alan Wake looks more so than Uncharted, but technically Uncharted 2's graphics are more advanced.

I happen to like the look of Killzone 2's graphics/arts tyle more than Uncharted, but that doesn't mean that they are better

Nope, the proof is in the first post, i valuethickfoliage, real forests, next gen dynamic volumetric lighting and huge walkable areas and exploration more than tiny spaces like coriddors, with just a bit better resolution and textures and nothing like those perks Alan Wake has

It's a well known fact that foliage determines the quality of a game.

If it had been Prince of Borneo: The Forgotten Leaves, it would have been AAAA.

Foliage is one of the heardest thigns to do right, due to complexity, it is what Crysis is basically praised for the most

People CARE about foliage, only fanboys with games that has not got any pretend to not care

Gxgear

Oh yes, i have, that is how i know Uncharted 2 is so far behind Alan Wake in scale, foliage and lighting

Well, when you play Alan Wake, and get to explore whole mountain sides and rolling hills, then you will know it is 100x bigger i walkable area than Uncharted 2 in its levels

theseekar

AW does not have vast open areas, completely linear closed in areas like U2. You must have seen the PC footage from like 5 years ago

Have you actually played the game ? Any comments on the farm size near the end ? Because i was driving a car around whole mountains and hills to find the next objctive there

How come you "missed" that spot ? And is not the only one

There is nothign like that in Uncarted 2, sorry

Scale really doesn't effect graphics. What you see is what you get, having a larger area isn't going to magically make the graphics better, if it did Just Cause 2 would blow pretty much everything out of the water. Uncharted 2 looks better. Most journalists agree and I'll take their word over yours as you're quite the lem.

Whats with you and foliage?!

theseekar

It's a well known fact that foliage determines the quality of a game.

If it had been Prince of Borneo: The Forgotten Leaves, it would have been AAAA.

Foliage is one of the heardest thigns to do right, due to complexity, it is what Crysis is basically praised for the most

People CARE about foliage, only fanboys with games that has not got any pretend to not care

is it hard to do standard definition foliage?

I'm sure the standards have not changed very much in only 8 months, especially considering Uncharted 2 is still the best looking game on consoles. You may like the way Alan Wake looks more so than Uncharted, but technically Uncharted 2's graphics are more advanced.

I happen to like the look of Killzone 2's graphics/arts tyle more than Uncharted, but that doesn't mean that they are better

theseekar

You dont tell me how Uncharted 2's graphics are more advanced though, when it has smaller scale, no forests and no volumetric lighting ?

So a game has to have a large scale (which Alan Wake's is not even anything impressive), forests (?), and volumetric lighting to look better than another? I'm pretty sure the overall concensus of SW is that Uncharted 2 is better. You can still be the only one to think AW is better

I don't think it's even close, U2 to this day is still unmatched on consoles.W1NGMAN-

And where is the proof ?

It has worst lighting and nowhere near the foliage and scale of Alan Wake

Alan Wake has no where near the scale of RDR. RDR > Alan Wake.

Well, if it has those, yes, it would look host lot better

Crysis has huge scale, forests and volumetric lighting and is considered hands down the best looking game, am i wrong ?

No it does everything else better than every other game as well. Alan Wake probably has the best lighting than any console game and your dumb leaves maybe. It doesn't excel in other technical graphic categories compared to say, ME2, GeoW2, KZ2, and UC2.

I'm pretty sure there's a distinction between liking nice graphics and dendrophilia.

It also has alot of other things going for it like amazing textures, water and depth of field. Going with what you're saying though Just Cause 2 is obviously graphics king as it has a truly massive freeroam world, forests, good lighting and good textures. Uncharted 2 looks better than the sum of it's parts though, Alan wake looks quite similar to RE5 in many ways.

Alan Wake has worse textures and character models. This is easy to see and is obviously the most defining factor when it comes to graphics. Mentioning foliage, lighting, etc. doesn't matter when most of the time you're looking at textures.

So if Crysis 2 comes along and its scale isn't as big as Crysis 1, and takes place in the city (no forests), it can under no circumstance look better than Crysis 1? I mean, according to you, scale, plants, and lighting are all that matters
