Question for the master race people and warlocks all around, why the hate against Alienware? I don't have one but I would like to know why people who own an Alienware PC get treated like manure on GS.

TommyBarban

they are a joke brand that preys on peoples inability to make a good pc.

its real simple, they charge too much.

Overpriced as fvck, screams 1$ DOLLAR plastic Made in China, atrocious ventilation, worthless glow on which they should have cut price on, prebuilt and for the most part looks fugly... You spend 2k on a pc which has a fugly ass tower, gg but no thanks.

Alienware computers are pre-built gaming PCs generally bought/used by people who don't know how to build their own gaming rigs. And someone who knows a lot about hardware (or has a huge cyber-ego) will feel the urge to single out an Alienware user as a "noob" and will immediately flex their cyber-muscles all over the poor soul.

They're not bad gaming computers if you're new to PC gaming and know absolutely nothing about hardware. But they're greatly overpriced for what they contain.

Their laptops are alright but they are too pricey.helwa1988

If I was gonna get a gaming laptop, I'd go with Sager over Alienware. There's also a lot of really nice MSI and ASUS gaming laptops.

To be honest, unless you really don't have the space, it would be better to go with a desktop PC and a budget laptop

Cause they are jealous of my rig. They cant build a gaming pc that even comes close to what the x51 looks like. They stuck building small cube shaped pc's that are bigger.

Considering each of them have different customization options/standards you can't exactly get a spot on comparison

I found two closely specced laptops between the M17x and Sagers offerings

http://www.sagernotebook.com/index.php?page=product_customed&model_name=NP9370

http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=dkdwgy2&model_id=alienware-m17x-r4&c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19

they have same power specs wise but everything else I'm not sure about

the M17x uses a slot load drive which cost more than regular ones and they use intels wifi offerings

I switched the wifi adapter/bluetooth reciever in the sager to something more comparable to the M17x which has a Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 2230 With Bluetooth 4.0

I put in the sager a Killer Wireless-N 1202 802.11 A/B/G/N Wireless LAN + Bluetooth 4.0 Combo Module to make it more comparable but it made cost $50 more

The M17x I used cost $1879

the Sager cost $1749

everything else I'm not sure about like battery life, size/dimensions, weight, cooling, etc.

Mostly the reasons stated. I don't really care. Many don't like to build, and prefer to take the pr-built route with warranties. It's a gaming PC, through-and-through.

Well then you should put a better hard drive for the m17x as well. As for the sager, put in another $200 (total 1899) and you can get a GTX 680M, still a way better deal.

The ridiculous overpricing really is the only reason. And it's a damn good one. Putting together a computer is not difficult. If you can follow the instructions to assemble a bookshelf or an entertainment center from walmart, you can assemble PC pieces. And you stand to save, literally, hundreds of dollars compared to buying a prebuilt. And even by prebuilt standards, Alienwares are overpriced. Even compared to regular brand name Dells (Dell owns Alienware), Alienwares are overpriced. In 2009, when I shopping for a laptop, I went to the Alienware site and went through the customization dealy, just for sh!ts and giggles. Put together a pretty decent system. Then I went back to the regular Dell site, and put together a Studio XPS with literally the exact same components as the Alienware I was looking at. Identical systems, in different cases, with different logos. Going with the Dell saved me almost $300.

Indeed. That x51 should actually cost less, because of that terrible case. Limits upgradeability, constrics airflow, leading to overheating, and shortening the life of your components. Great job failing, slipknot.

I would of if I could but their only 750gb option includes a 128GB mSATA Boot Drive  which increases the price more and ends up containing more than the Sager. I'll give you that on getting a cheaper option, I notice the sager has a better GTX 680m option which is 4GB GDDR5 and $200 while the M17x option is $350 and is 2gb GDDR5

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

wait for it.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Irrefutable proof that you are not a "person who knows about computers". If you were, you would know the x51 is no different from any other PC, except for its case. And whether or not the case is "cool" is subjective; just a matter of opinion. And, in  my  opinion (and the opinions of many others), Alienware's cases look cheap and tacky. I can buy a way more badass looking case on newegg for less than $100.

:lol::lol: Seriously, that sh!t is sig-worthy.  "The x51 is way different than any gaming pc you could build"....... funny stuff, dude.

Dude's a perfect example of Alienware's target customer. Knows nothing about shopping around for a decent price, and even less about tech. Just goes to the store, finds the flashiest looking thing there, and drops whatever it costs, probably not even knowing what's in it.

the_bi99man

Alienware caters to the person who knows about computers but wants something different in design and style. The x51 is way different than any gaming pc you could build.

Cant buy a case like the x51. lol people would pay over $300 if they could buy the x51 case. Its better looking than any case ive seen out there.

The x51 is a disaster waiting to happen.  Have your camcorder on standby for when it spontaneously combusts into a ball of flames.

Ive heard of people building their own computers having problems. Never the x51. x51 is built to last.

As I said, opinion. And you actually can buy cases like the x51, just without the logo. It's not special. Just a small form factor case, with some lighting, and an alien head logo.

Also, most smart people would opt to get significantly more power, for even less money, if they knew the look of the case was the only benefit of this particular model. Seriously, what are you doing? Playing games, or looking at your tower with one hand on your crank and one on the box of kleenex?

Everybody has their own preference. To me the x51 is perfect. Like how it has a glossy front but matt black sides. I also love the lights on the side.

I loved the design of the Xbox 360. To me the x51 is like if Alienware made an Xbox console. Its so awesome that I can clean my case out so easily and it looks like brand new every day. I like how the power supply has no fans so thats even less dust going into my system.

What makes it even better is theres nothing else out there like the x51. I can safely say that. Until they come out with something like the x51 I could build on my own, my purchase was worth every penny.Â
