Alienware, why the hate?

Not really, have you ever actually priced a sager notebook? They are usually the same and make you pay extra to gaurentee no dead pixels.

Not anymore. I think Alienware learned their lesson after catching so much flak with their very first laptop. My wife's (10 lb) Sager (middle)back in 2003 was $500 cheaper than an equivalent Alienware which just happened to have a paint job as the only difference.

Alienware's laptops are not as overpriced as people think. Sure they are more expensive than Asus Gamer republic, but those have about the worst quality screens I have seen. The viewing angles are absolutely horrible. the 1080p screens on the Alienware laptops have pretty decent viewing angles.

And yes, for desktops are more expensive than building your self, and if you don't think they should be then you should try owning a business, and then you realize you aren't making a profit and can't pay the bills, your employees and make a living, then you will realize about BUSINESS. They are usually 300-500 more, and for the people who don't know build a PC then they pay the extra for SOMEONE else to do it. 

I don't know how to build a car and I don't care to ever learn, so I will go to a Car Dealer and BUY a car even though it's gonna be more expensive than building my car. Same goes for fixing it too, I'm taking it to a shop.

Ultimately, people need to learn people need to work for a living and charge extra for the things they can do, becuase they just can't charge you for the parts and still make a living. SERVICES ARE NOT FREE!!! I wish people would learn this. I'm sure you would love to go rake your whole neighborhoods leaves for free.

Go work retail for one week, and you will see the type of people I see everyday, they are not fit for even opening up the side panel and looking inside, They just want to play a game and check their email and facebook. To them, a PC is just as complicated as a car. Thats why I used that as a comparison (People are always saying, Just change your own oil). and hey thanks for completely ignoring my other points, like BETTER SCREEN (other than Sager/Apple, who uses the same type of color gamuat ratio LCD's) and that PREBUILTS WILL ALWAYS COST MORE because its a freaking business. Businesses would be in business if they DIDN"T MAKE PROFIT

So why don't you open a business building computers, you can't work anywhere else and thats where your living comes from, I bet after doing several PCs for practically FREE because you don't want to charge them anything extra other than the cost of hardware (and your not going to make enough charging an extra 50 bucks for you food/living and such). Then when you grow and expand and have to hire employees you have to pay them wages as well. 

Building a computer is easy for me, but to 70% of the rest of the world, they don't even have a clue. This is why there will always be a market for pre-build copmuters.

Yep, how about look at other product as well? Like lenovo y500 just coming out for around $1000-1200 (with SLI GTX660M, 1080p screen, 8gb ram, i7 processor) for example? But hey, the same configuration would easily cost $1800+ on an alienware laptop. It's a freaking business right? That's why they're allowed to rip people off and we cannot call them out for it? It's like saying you cannot criticise a expensive meal unless you're the restaurant owner, that's stupid.

Yeah right, cus apprently only Alienware have a business building computers, other companies that provide better value prebuilt model just don't :roll:.

The x51 is not upgradeable because the psu is too weak, and a bigger gpu will block airflow and overheat.  You'll spend $1150 for the bare minimum and you'll have to junk the whole thing in 6-12 months because only the hdd is salvageable. Then you have to buy another Alienware for $1150, and the cycle continues.

If you build your own PC, you pay only $800 for a stronger PC that will last longer than 6-12 months.  Even if you decide to upgrade before 6-12 months pass, you're spending only $200-$300 for a gpu, not the entire $800 for a new PC.
