http://wiiudaily.com/2012/06/nintendo-confirms-wii-u-launch-games-will-run-at-720p/

Wii U Daily were first to report that Nintendo?s first partyWii U games will be running in 720pwhen they launch, and now Nintendo has confirmed just that: first party titles will ship with 720p support only. Nintendo game designer Katsuya Eguchi said in aninterviewthat he believes 720p is ?sufficient? for the kind of games Nintendo makes, and that the company will focus more on delivering games at 60 frames per second, rather than focusing on higher resolution like 1080p. He said:

?At Nintendo we have different teams working on different games that take into consideration the resolution. If they think that by focusing on 720p and a certain framerate to get a certain experience, than that?s ultimately how they make their decisions. We might consider using 1080p, but, for example, if we want to get 60 fps, at a particular stage of development, it may seem 720p is more realistic.?

According to Eguchi, the resolution and frame rate depends on the team that?s making the game at Nintendo, and it seems they have a choice of what to focus on, whether it?s resolution or higher frame rate. The Wii U technically supports 1080p, as Nintendo?s recent hardware specs revealed, but so far we haven?t seen a 1080p game from the company. All of the first party launch games, such asPikmin 3, Nintendo Land, andNew Super Mario U, will be in 720p. However, in the same interview, Eguchi confirmed that the Nintendo Land mini games will run in 60 frames per second, and it?s rumored that Pikmin 3 will run at 60 fps as well.

Seriously, I gave Nintendo every benefit of the doubt going into their E3 conference(not even talking about just this either, but in general), and in my opinion this console went from being a day one buy, to a Dreamcast/Vita level of fail. This console is going to be a disaster.

It's not like the sheep will care. As long as Nintendo keeps releasing Mario and Zelda, no matter how similar it is to the previous one, they'll keep going crazy over it.

And their is an article on IGN that saysd the Wii is probably gonna be around $299 to $399 and that does not take into account you will need to but a HDMI Cable, extra Wii-Pad, and a real controller extra.

I have my PC if I want to see the best graphic's out there. When it comes to Nintendo I just want the creativity and enjoyment I get out of their games.

Really just need to change this board to "Graphic Wars".

Indeed, though these kind of things also depend on how close you are to the TV and whatnot.

It really won't be that big of a deal for me as I don't play on a big screen. I'm actually against big screens for gaming as I have to move my head left and right to see the entire screen, messes me up in multiplayer.

because 600p and 30fps is expected from the current generation (6-7 year old consoles) not the next generation in 2012.

Also let's not forget most 360 launch games were either sub HD (PGR and PDZ were like 600p) or ran poorly/looked like ass. Then more games were 720p later on.

Wii U launch games at 720p and matching late 2012 360/PS3 games leaves room for improvement, 1080p could be doable for games in the future, maybe by Nintendo (but Nintendo values 60fps more it seems, so most will probably be 720p for those game, though Zelda is usually 30fps)

There have been threads about this that aren't even that old. Also, it's just Nintendo's first party games that will be native 720p all @60fps. Rayman Legends is 1080p @60fps and Scribblenauts Unlimited (2D in ya face!) is 1080p, 60fps with FSAA. Also, Retro and Nintendo EAD are sure to make games @ 1080p, 60fps.

Am i supposed to be surprised by this news? We already knew that it was only a little bit more powerful than current gen consoles. 720p is a reasonable upgrade when you consider that Nintendo isn't going for graphics and teh powa.

No, it's at just the right distance and level to look exactly at the screen and see detail without moving my head.

Edit: By big screen I mean 5 feet across and 5 feet high, that's what my brother games on. I'm not going to sit across the room or 15 feet away just to see everything. I'm about as far away from my screen as a computer screen.

For real. Let developers start coding to the metal of this machine, let's see how Wii U games look in a year or two (Retro Studios bound to impress). I don't expect a massive leap from current gen, but they will look noticeably better for sure.

Why are many of you surprised? From the beginning it was talked about being a little better than the HD twins, And since Nintendo never want to release specs and avoid the questions, one just needs to compare it to the Wii. Batman AC armored adition is already confirmed to look worse than the PS3 version, sure..optimisation is always a concern for new hardware, but this even goes to show the rather WEAK hardware when compared to a 6 year old console.

I hope no one is surprised by this announcement. Nintendo is a cheap casual gaming company now.
