We can only pray the next generation will be a real leap forward that we were expecting. I still miss those days when I poped in a PS1 game and my mind was blown away by the amazing graphics and features games had...oh how I'd love to have that feeling again. FF7 videos blew my mind when it was a new game.

I just finished reading the forum post, and it seems they are getting this number from analyizing images of the game. Until the final product of the game is released, I would refrain from assuming the resolution. The forum didn't come out and say that this was the resolution either, they only said it COULD BE the resolution.

If all the images they analyzed originated from a single source, that could be the reason for the similar resolution.

The process used to determine the actual resolution is based off of screenshots. So if the supposed frame buffer shots are actual undoctored caps then this initial pixel count could very well be right.

You guys need to be realistic, you can't expect a medicore PC with a last gen graphic card to be able to run at 720p or 1080p without graphical sacrifices. It needs to run at 576p to keep the detail up and a decent frame rate. This should be a prime example of how the cell isn't this super duper CPU that dominates Intel and AMDs high end chips. Some people might think its strange that MGS4 runs that low, when the game isn't as detailed as other games on the market. My guess is its because there is a lot of other things going like complex AI, physics and animation. Which depending on, can be taxing to the CPU and GPU. Especially if a lot of the game revolves completely around it.

Most games use physics, animation and AI as something to complement the graphics. With MGS4, I feel its the other way around.

I haven't read a lot of the responses in the thread, except for maybe page one, but if this is true, then I don't know what to say. Part of me wants to scuff this off and say that graphics shouldn't be the deciding factor in the game, but part of me is also disappointed for several reasons.

Just what the hell is in those 50 gigs then? The Metal Gear Solid series has been one of the best looking series on console, but lately, it doesn't appear to be the same for number 4, furthermore, how much gameplay is in there? If anything I expect nothing less 15+ hours, excluding cutscenes.

You could forgive Metal Gear Solid 2 for it's length because it was just an amazing game, number 3 was everything number 2 was and more. But so far Metal Gear Solid 4 doesn't seem to turning heads; again this wont deter me from buying it, in fact I'm getting the Limited Edition, however, I was expecting something a bit more in terms of graphics from this game.

Meh, critics that played the game(including ign) still raved that it was one of the best looking games "this side of crysis"....good enough for me. That does come as a shock but if it still looks amazing then im still hands down for the game.

i never heard of them before. all i seen was a forum. if kojima said it i'll believe it. it is his game he basically eats sleeps and sh!%# mgs4. i won't believe a bunch of people on a forum who did not work on mgs4 and probably never developed a game. sorry but i don't believe a picture guessing game.
