I still think Wii will come 3rd. It's got the non gamer market covered but casuals/hardcore gamers will completely avoid the system.

I couldn't care less what analysts think. They also thought PSP would beat DS which was ridiculous to me at the time and look who turned out to be wrong.

OceanLeet

Did this guy just say that casual gamers will avoid the Wii?

lmao

Casuals want GTAIV, GT5, Halo 3, games like that. Wii doesn't have them so yeah, casuals will avoid the Wii.

Dude, that is pure denial. From Wikipedia, the top selling non-bundled games of all time:

  1. Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES - 18 million)[25]
  2. Super Mario Land (Game Boy - 14 million)[25]
  3. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PS2 - 14 million)[117]
  4. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (PS2 - 13 million)[118]
  5. Super Mario 64 (N64 - 11 million)[25]
  6. Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec (PS2 - 11 million)[109]
  7. Grand Theft Auto III (PS2 - 11 million)[118]
  8. Gran Turismo (PS1 - 10.5 million)[109]
  9. Super Mario Bros. 2 (NES - 10 million)[25]
  10. Final Fantasy VII (PS1 - 9.8 million, includes Final Fantasy VII International)[110]
  11. Gran Turismo 2 (PS1 - 9.34 million)[109]
  12. New Super Mario Bros. (DS - 8.64 million)[72]
  13. Nintendogs (DS - 8.53 million approximately, 5.0 million in Europe,[90] 2.1 million in US,[91][92] 1.43 million in Japan)[93]
  14. Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day! (DS - 8.51 million)[94]
  15. Mario Kart 64 (N64 - 2.24 million in Japan,[56] 6.23 million in US only,[59] approximately 8.47 million)
  16. Donkey Kong Country (SNES - 8.30 million)[57]
  17. Pokémon Yellow (Game Boy - 3.16 million in Japan,[56] 5.10 million in US,[58] approximately 8.26 million)
  18. Super Mario Kart (SNES - 8 million)[25]
  19. GoldenEye 007 (N64 - 8 million)[60]
  20. Tomb Raider II (PS - 8 million)[40]
  21. Halo 2 (8 million)[40]

Ok, so lets look. Out of the top 21 best selling non-bundled games of all time, 11 (green) are owned by Nintendo. For those that noticed I highlighted Donkey Kong Country in green for Nintendo...that's right. Donkey Kong the character is infact owned by Nintendo, though DKC was developed by Rare. The rights are Nintendo's hence why it's on the VC. Anyway, another 5 (yellow) have or will be showing up on a Nintendo system. That leaves only 5 (red) that will never show up on a Nintendo console. Out of the top 21 best selling games/franchises ever, over HALF are Nintendo's. And another quarter of them can potentially show up on the Wii. Casuals only interested in GTA, Halo, and GT? lmfao, dude

The list means nothing.

What was the best selling series of last gen? GTA.

Which console doesn't have GTAIV? Wii.

Not to mention the 2nd and 3rd best selling series of last gen, GT, and Halo, both of which aren't on the Wii too.

Dude...lmfao GTA is COMING to Wii.  Rockstar has 3 games in development.  It may not be GTA4, but it will be a GTA nonetheless.  Halo is a great game, but a little overrated.  It only appeals to a specific group of gamers.  It sells great, but Mario and other franchises are there to counter it.  New Super Mario Bros outsold Halo 2.  Nintendo, when it's firing on all cylinders, is a mighty force.  With the way the Wii is going, Halo 3 is going to look pitiful against the tsunami of Wii games on the horizon from both first and third parties.

Agreed. Good post.

I am not basher of the Wii so lets get that straight. I call it like I see it. You and I have extremely different views on the topic but i can respect what you had to say. You saw the type of games I like by looking at my profile and with that in mind you as a fan of the wii should be abe to tell me if there are any similar games out or will be out (please include titles so I can research) that I might have an interest. And you asked if I have a girlfriend since girls like the wii. for one I have a woman and yes she has shown interest in the wii but my 2 boys (13, 9) have decided they wanted to wait. We could have gotten that system back in dec but they said no for now. I told her I would do research, ask people what they think about the console, the games, and the future before we invest in yet another console. And just so you know, I just really got into gaming again after years of very little interest but the games over the past 3 years have actually gotten better and are now fun. (I do like fun games games i.e. guitar hero which all of us have not put down since I got it last tuesday). As for my friends coming over drinking that isn't something I do at home with children around. I so have 1 friend who has the wii and I have played it but even he told me to wait before getting it. I will agree that it was fun playing wii sports the couple times we did but the other games he had did nothing for me wanting the console. Maybe I should retract my kiddie comment and I officially do. I am just judging the current games on the wii and I am waiting for something really good (if it's great then even better but I will settle). So if you can let me know that would be great.cjnwo4life

Well I respect you for retracting your kiddie comment because I become super annoyed when people use the kiddie arguement.  Hell viva pinata is one of the best games on the 360 and its what would be called a "kiddie".  Since your tastes in games obviously dont include many great E games which I think your making a major mistake with heres a couple of examples of games coming to the Wii that are more your type.  Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil UC, Manhunt 2, No more Heros, Metroid Prime 3, along with a couple of great sports titles since you seem to like those to.  Also keep in mind that what this thread is basically about is that Developers are going to continue there support and push all sorts of games to rack in the money.

Let me make it clear to you: I don't care if you think GTA or Halo or GT or FF or whatever is "overrated". Fact is the PS2 won because of GTA, GT, FF and Xbox outsold the GC with Halo despite GC having SSBM, MP1/2, SMS, and Zelda.

Even if GTA came to the Wii it wouldn't matter. GTAIV is the one that will sell like crazy. Spin offs never sell well as proven by GTA on GBA, and the GTAs on the PSP.

GTA > GT > Halo > FF all outsold GC games like SSBM > SMS > MP2.

Obviously you may want to believe things will be different this gen but the reality is that series like GTA, GT, FF, Halo etc are only getting more popular.

The thing is that all of the GTA sales this generation is gonna be split between the PS3 and 360 and thats going to hurt both sides not help.  Nintendo has already blasted open the gates with casuals with Wii sports.  Its already in 5+ million gamers hands.  Nintendo games are going to dominate this generation.

non games like Wii Health pack might actually do the most damage...surprisingly.

I don't think the third party support will be just stuff like party games or whatever. Developers know that if the market was saturated with that kind of thing then it wouldn't be good for the industry. I definitey think there are better things to come.

FF will end up on Wii, SE always goes with largest base, and the GTA won't save the PS3 or 360 because its multiplat, you're splitting the fanbase

More support for the Wii is always good news to me.

It's not like they need it, but I guess you're right. Wii sports itself may just sell 20 million wiis, but more 3rd party is just a great addition.

Eh, hasn't Final Fantasy sales been going down since FFX? And Gran Turismo 4 only sold a bit over half what Gran Turismo 3 did?

Now you're arguing something completely different to what I was saying.

1. What's your point?

2. Spin offs don't sell. (Btw the GC also got an FF :O )

3. Point?

4. You're underestimating them.

5. GT5, GTAIV, MGSIV, FFXIII will help the PS3 win. Halo 3, GTAIV, and Gears of War will help the 360 beat the Wii.

6. You may want to believe the series I mentioned are no longer popular but evidence suggests otherwise.

7. Yeah, OK. ;)

Seriously, you've gone off on a completely different point. What does what you just argued have anything to do with what I said?

The Wii is a non gamers console. It's going to sell well for people who like Nintendogs/Brain Training/Wiisports. Nothing wrong with that. The PS3/360 however have the casual/hardcore markets taken care of just like last gen.

Consumers aren't going to ignore GT5, GTAIV, Halo 3, MGSIV, FFXIII, GeOW2 etc despite many wishing this would happen.

lol, GTA spin offs are LCS, VCS and the one on GBA. GTA:SA and GTA:VC are part of the GTAIII trilogy and are the "main" additions to the series. GTAIV is next in line and the 2 after it will be part of the GTAIV trilogy.

Keep in mind that many of the GC games didn't sell well simply because the GC didn't sell well.  You have to remember that.Tylendal

Shouldn't the games have made the system sell?

That's certainly what made the PS2 win.

The series have only grown in popularity and unlike many devs these ones are actually talented and constantly create new ways of hooking people to their series.

I could not care less if people think GTAIV, GT5, FFXIII, MGSIV, Halo 3 etc won't sell well because I know it's just wishful thinking.

Im sorry but your way of thinking is just absolutely laughable.  Nintendo has already won Japan.  A couple of multiplats isnt going to save the PS3.   at you thinking that the Wii is a non-gamer console.  Keep wishing that.

1, The Xbox just BARELY outsold the Cube (argueably the worst Nintendo system ever)

2, A FF game is coming to the Wii.

3, There were alot of things wrong with the Cube...not so with the Wii.

4, You've never played GTA4, Halo 3, GT5, nor FF13...you're depending awefully much on those four games.

5, The four above mention games are split between multiplat, 360 exclusive, and PS3 exclusive. How does this gather more support when it's divided between two consoles?

6, You're also depending wayyy to much on people's loyalty to those titles. Sonic 1 and 2 were awesome and sold millions...but that didn't stop people from ditching Sega and Sonic when better games were found elsewhere. For most people, loyalty only goes so far. Also you must keep in mind that many casuals are completely cool with spin-offs.

7, Your biggest mistake: underestimating the competition. Take a lesson from all of the dozens of developers, Sony, and Microsoft over this.

Right so thats why GT4 tanked when compared to GT3 right?  Its RISING IN POPULARITY all right..... O wait what about MGS 3 it tanked compared to MGS2 its also RISIING IN POPULARITY.  Should I talk about FFXII because it tanked compared to FFX?  I bet its also RISING IN POPULARITY.   So basically you have one multiplat series that has maintained its popularity and one exclusive 360 series that has maintained its popularity.  The rest are going downhill......

That's certainly what made the PS2 win.

the-very-best

The PS2 won by having a massive variety of games available on the system.  The PS3 has lost this variety.  The 360 never had it.  The Wii now does.  I think the PS3 is a fantastic system for the hardcore market.  I honestly like the system.  I have a PS2.  But the Wii is still going to dominate for the next few years at the very least.

That is some Excelent news for Sheep and Wii owners alike, I dont beleive that the stigma that Nintendo has had will carry on this gen, If they are indeed expanding the market as well as attracting casuals then 3rd party games may actually sell on a Nintendo Home Console, Profit for everyone. YAY!!

I've told you all what will happen to Nintendo gaming if it penetrates the casual market.  I doubt it will penetrate the market enough to forever destroy gaming, but we WILL see a SHARP fall in quality within Nintendo.  They might be selling more games, but only because they push products through franchise labels and low production costs.  See my profile on why this is a terrible thing for the industry (and especially Nintendo fans who still have high expectations and standards).

Welcome to hell.

Welcome to the shallow, childish, and self-made video game hell that Nintendo consumers are creating for us.

Let us strike a dirge in honor of what video games could accomplish if people would simply wake up and demand quality products with their money.

Indeed.  I hope that Sony learns a valuable lesson and makes the PS4 an affordable quality GAMING machine with a new twist.  Until then, I'll be happily playing my Wii :)

[QUOTE="Iyethar"][QUOTE="Setsa"][QUOTE="Iyethar"]

[QUOTE="Setsa"][QUOTE="Supafly1"][QUOTE="Setsa"]The Wii is going to die out buddy, it s jsut a matter of time now. Sure it seems fun to play at first, but it is crap for hardcore gamers. Only three types of people buy the Wii in my perspective: people who are just breaking into the gaming society, people whoa re rich enough to afford multiple systems (Wii + 360/PS3), or little kids with ADD/ ADHD.Setsa

But those three you listed outnumber the hardcore.

Very true, the problem is though, while Nintendo is realing in cash like crazy atm, the system isn t really going to be a strong competitor in 2 years time. To me it appears to be a fad that will eventually lose it s popularity, but hey, I could be wrong and Nintendo could still pull something off to make it appeal to tradition/hardcore gamers and until then, I ll stick with what i ve got now.

Why not? Every current indicator points to the Wii having the most userbase and most software support in 2 years' time. Why would the dominant system not be a strong competitor?

All i m saying is that i don t think its popularity will last. It s a good system if you ve got a 360/PS3 with it but i can t imagine any tradition/hardcore gamers surviving with only the Wii. While the Wii is attracting a lot of people to the gaming market, the Wii is in a different league from the other two systems. It s more of a "party" system that s fun to play with friends (or when you re drunk) but imo it doesn t seem right to be sitting at home waving your controler around for more than an hour.

Why not?  What you just told me boils down to "I would get bored of the Wii after owning it for a while."  How do you get from there to "People will stop buying it"?

And if they will stop buying it, when?

Some people will eventually get bored of the Wii. There is only so much it can do for so long to still make it seem fun. Right now everyone who has a Wii is enjoying it because it is fresh, innovative, etc. but after a while the innovation will get old. There will still be those who have fun with it and buy the Wii, but it s popularity will decrease because something else catches their eye. Human kind is always looking for new ways to have fun and sometimes people will rush into something without thinking about it in the long run. When a lot of men and women were younger, they played pokemon, digimon, etc. cards because they seemed hot an everyone was buying them. After a few years though they became stale and lost a fair chunk of their fan base. People still buy them now though, and the franchise perserveres because of it, but atm it sin t doing as well as it was before. My prediction is this will happen to the Wii as well.

Why would people get bored with a a fun and immersive experience? Sex is fun and immersive. I don't see people getting bored with that.(P.S. for the record the Wii is not even in the same ballpark as sex. I'm merely being absurd to make a point.)

This is great news for Nintendo. Indeed it seems like the "second coming" for the Mario Factory. But I'm waiting for awhile to see any worth while 3rd party games for the Wii. Right now, there's nothing for the Core gamers.

GTA is certainly not in a decline. GT...well this one's interesting. GT reached its peak with GT3 primarily due to the massive advertising spent on it and it got 15 million sales because of it. GT4 got 10 million with less than half of the advertising budget. We'll have to wait and see how much Sony will spend on GT5's advertising budget.

FF is not in a decline. It's actually finally getting back to stable sales after the disaster of FFXI. MGS isn't in a decline either. It's a similar story to GT and thanks to the hype from Xbox fans MGSIV is going to have enormous sales. I wouldn't be totally surprised if it passed FFXIII.

In any case, I don't think the Wii will win. Well to be honest I see it coming 3rd. It just doesn't have enough games to cater to every market. It certainly has the non gamer market under control with Wiisports and the like but casuals/hardcore gamers will go to the PS3 since it has every major series that made the PS2 so successful. 360 will do well too I assume.

I'm not. I expect Wii to get a lot of 3rd party support, and most of the games will be non gamer titles. Why? Because Wiisports is the best selling Wii game.

Wii having the non gamer market under control is the reason it will be more successful than the GC.Â
