@charizard1605: the thoughts in black lines remind me of the small text in Zelda games. Like the one where link isn't supposed to hear it, or it's in the NPCs thoughts.

@GarGx1: To be fair, all reviews for Zelda DO take these objective aspects into account- they just say that where they're an issue, they don't detract from the game experience at all. This is the reason the game has received its high scores.
We all know if Horizon dropped a 24 fps reviewers would tear it to shreads. Seems like Nintendo is constantly getting free passes while Xbox And Playstation are held at much higher standards all around.

People want it to be good because it's zelda but it's just not that good, indie developers have what it takes to make games on this level nowadays.

Then how come most of the AAA industry doesn't?

Regarding stuff like ubisoft and ea though, because they have to play it safe.
Other developers are doing it better though.

Appeal to authority, a disgustingly simple logical fallacy.
Also argumentum ad populum
So yeah, your argument falls apart, cod reviews pretty damn well. Justin Bieber had a huge fan base.

I'm not saying this game is unparalleled or some shit, but you're being a bit vague with your criticisms here.

It's funny how comments like these come from the people who haven't actually played the game without exception.

CD Projekt Red, Square Enix, Eidos Montreal, PlatinumGames, IO Interactive, Steam Ninja, Crystal Dynamics, Sega (Yakuza team), Guerrilla Games, LEVEL-5, the different SIE Sony Japan Studios, Insomniac Games, From Soft, Techland, Atlus, Devolver Digital (if we're just talking quality), id Software (sucks they are stuck under bethesda though), Firaxis Games, Tango Gameworks, etc etc.
Just making better games. Zelda reviewed well because it's zelda. It's hardly a bad game but it doesn't deserve a 10/10.
@putaspongeon: I loved Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and you can ask @charizard1605 how obsessed I was with the game and teased a ton of JRPG fans how they not try such a game. But since actually playing Breath of the Wild, it manages to do things that CD Projekt Red couldn't do, that's including a physics engine that works as well as implementing deeper details towards missions and rewards.
I loved Witcher 3, not because of graphics, but its sheer open world and interesting missions. Yet, Nintendo has managed to beat Witcher 3 on what CDPR lacked and that is a better combat system. You can bitch and moan how people are giving it a 10 because of its name, but that isn't stopping me for agreeing with the review. I dislike Aonuma's ideas in Zelda games, but this is his best work and held by a young, talented staff that researched hard to see what makes people love Open World titles and expanded on it beyond levels!
If I must say, the boss fight against King of the Wild Hunt was a huge let down as well! I have fought bosses in BoTW that are much better. Maybe you should play the game instead of pulling words out of your ass to slander your saltiness.
It warms my heart watching gamers be on the wrong side of history, full foot in the mouth for the sake of fanboyism. This is like cows reactions to SMG all over again, but even worse lmao.

And you know this because you have naturally played, not even played through, just played an appreciable amount of, Breath of the Wild?
@iandizion713: forget about the game, I just wanna know if you think I'm a 10/10 :)
You're a Meh/10

I remember major meltdowns when Super Mario Galaxy won GOTY in 2007. Cows had no PS3 exclusive games other than God of War 2 for the PS2 in the GOTY nominees.

Oh, but didn't you hear? Little Big Planet is a far superior platformer and Galaxy only got good scores because Wii games are rated to a lower standard.
I really wish Necros were allowed, I'd be bumping old topics all the time lmao.

You play on death march? Witcher 3 had good combat in my opinion, albeit it's main focus is the rpg itself (ie the dialogue decisions)
Regarding breath of the wild, it's open world is barren and the combat isn't enough to be particularly amazing, if you want a game that does what the witcher 3 does poorly, look at bloodborne.

Yes, I did play on death march, and @jg4xchamp will rip you if you think that the Witcher 3's combat is even good, because it's not! Also, stop talking about games you don't like because you haven't played it.

As opposed to what you are doing in this thread?
Are you aware of the existence of this concept known as irony?
@ConanTheStoner: Didn't LBP come out on 2008? Also, I remember, how they were desperate to prove the justification of owning a PS3, until the overrated MGS4 came out.
On a side note, I plan on buying a switch in the end. Not for a while but I'll get one. I didn't get a wii u and I'd be interested in playing the games like splatoon, mario kart, smash bros, donkey kong games, hopefully a port of super mario 3d world or something, hopefully bayonetta 2 or something, the wonderful 101, etc etc. I'm particularly excited for shin megami tensei and valkyria chronicles 2, x was bad due to the fact that it was pretty damn boring/plain, however the new game's anime aesthetic really helps in that regard and I hope they fix upon the mistakes. I've never been a zelda fan but that didn't stop me from giving it a chance. I have friends who have the switch though.
I'm also excited to play some handheld style games on the switch like pokemon since I have never had a 3ds but the 3ds outside of a few games seems just kind of meh compared to the ds and gameboy advance.
Not too sure about mario since I think the new one hits too many boxes of sonic 06 to not be wary of it, not to mention I think I prefer the couch co op of 3d world over the single player experience of even 64 or this game, and that's pretty controversial, couch co op is just an experience of it's own. Like I plan on getting knack 2 puefly for the couch co op.
Dude just called BotW's open world barren. Dude basically just notarized a document stating that he hasn't played the game.
I'm loving this thread.
At least see what the rest of the game has to offer before only playing 4 or 5 hours. 10 out of 10 doesnt not mean perfect, no game is. Its is simply the highest recommendation based off quality or experience. The only legitimate flaw u have mentioned is the framerate, everything else is personal taste. Weapon durability is somthing u just got to live with and honestly it brings quite a bit of variety

Those were the days.
I recall Rachet and Clank TOD touted as better then SMG by Sony fanboys. Aaron Thomas was a hero.
As much as I adore the lore of The Witcher and how they did Ciri justice in TW3, purely from a game design point; I think Breath of the Wild is far better than The Witcher 3.
The Witcher 3 does contextualising side quests very well but it barely justifies the open world. The world is static and barely plays a role in the gameplay loop. Discoveries and exploration is largely solved for you with an abundance of map markers.
The environments themselves function all the same. There's no difference between a snow mountain, the hills of Skellige or the bog lands. It's all mechanically the same. Just distance between the action.
Just all those tropes that Breath of the Wild moves away from. Learning to use the environment as a tool and not solving puzzles for you by way of map markers or following red blotches. (Witcher senses)

Walkthroughs of the game are already up in YT. Some aspects of the game can readily be observed.
Barren is a relative term. It might be good to know which game BotW is being compared to.

That and the Witcher 3's combat has the depth of a puddle. Lets be reality, even on death march that game is a cake walk. Enjoyable game, with a fun group of characters and pretty ass world, but it's not much of a sandbox experience what so ever.
I like the game, but I agree that it's not this G.O.A.T that so many are claiming - Annoying resource management, no music, unfulfilling side quests, the same shallow combat as always, etc. Oh, and it has a terrible ass frame rate too. BotW is a fun experience, great even, but yeah, I can easily nitpick it to shreds, which I shouldn't be able to do for a game that's being heralded as some sort of second coming.
@Renegade_Fury: Can you name any GOAT that you can't "nitpick it to shreds"? Because I can't. What makes it a GOAT is the fact that many review it in the high 90s. You can even rate it a 1/10, that won't change anything. That just means that you don't like it, and that's OK. Just like you can have the opinion that Mozart is overrated and that has no impact whatsoever on where he stands, right?

Streets of Rage 2. Bam, that was easy. I could go on too, but I don't feel like making a fat list.
You're right that this is all opinion based, and I didn't say otherwise, but BotW does have flaws that I do genuinely feel are being glossed over because we're still all in the honeymoon phase. I do like this game a lot btw; just wanted to make that clear again before I get labeled as a hater of it.
The problem is Zelda/Nintendo fanboys don't play any other games. They literally only play Zelda and wait 5 years for the next one.
They have nothing to compare it to. So for them, they go apeshit and think it's a 10/10.
Meanwhile, gamers like me who play everything from MGS, GTA, Mass Effect, Deus Ex, Fallout/Skyrim, Uncharted, Witcher 3, GT, Forza, Ratchet etc.....well I look at Zelda and I am just like....meh it sucks.
PS4/Xbone have higher standards compared to nintendos consoles/games.

I honestly don't get the hype for Breath of the Wild............
- The world is huge but very empty. Lots of space to explore but you don't find anything you haven't already seen in the first few hours
- Like what, 3 NPCs you interact with?
- There's like 6 different enemies and then a few re-skins of those said enemies. Not only that but you don't have to mix up your strategy to kill any of them.
- Virtually 0 RPG elements to it whatsoever. No skill tree to upgrade, no crafting system for armor or weapons. There's just very little to build towards
And the worst thing that i hate in the game and take all the fun is the weapons durability....it sucks.it's an extremely poorly implemented system that drags down the game. I fucking hate it. You should atleast be able to repair items like fallout. Even the high level swords I've been getting break after like 4 low level enemies.

Prove this. I don't know a single Nintendo fan on this forum who doesn't also game on other platforms
And are you trying to say that all these reviewers only play Zelda games and nothing in between?

I guarantee you that I play a larger variety of games than you do. The vast majority of my game time is spent on PC. PS4 is my current side bitch. I'll play all kinds of games on all kinds of platforms, and have been doing so for the past few decades.
This narrative you've come up with in which there is an ocean starving gamers here who only game on Nintendo consoles is nothing more than fiction.

Let's be real here bro. You're a corporate slave and you're upset that the other team got a great game. So you're going out of your way to hate on something you haven't even tried. You're an open book dude, you're not fooling anyone lmao.

I think the biggest draw is that you can go anywhere whenever you want. I did like 20 something shrines, which took close to 30 hours before doing the desert temple (and I'm betting that it's probably not the one most people are doing first). So with the freedom and the world being so huge, I get why everyone is in love with BotW, but with that said, I can't disagree with anything you've said.
Take the durability of weapons for instance: There's nothing skill based about it. All it does is to serve as an annoyance, and for anyone claiming it's about the realism, there's nothing realistic about climbing mountains at 90 degree angles with no gear, nor surviving freezing temperatures by eating chill peppers either. As an example, I can count two combat shrines that I've had to exit prematurely from because my weapons were taking too much of a beating. Again, it had nothing to do with skill, because parrying and jumping out of the way is easy, but since the guardians had too much HP, my weapons weren't up to par, and I didn't want to risk using up my most powerful ones. To make matters worse, you don't have many slots even after getting upgrades, and at least one of them is going to be taken up by a leaf, torch, or hammer. If you could repair everything, or have a chest to dump things in that would have been so much better. The way it is now, I'm scared to use my weapons, which makes zero sense in a video game.
