But WoW brings them money constantly and they can use that money to make Starcraft and Diablo. Even if SC or Diablo would financially flop, they can still fall back to Wow. Also Blizz games launch prices are higher than normal PC game prices. I'm waiting when more PC devs will follow.
Vesica_Prime
Really? 11 million sales is a financial flop?!
Read, I said IF. Hypothetically. Do you really think that without constant revenue from WoW, they still could spend so much time to make SC or Diablo?
And for Valve, they have gold mine called STEAM. Blizzard and Valve are in position where no other game development studio is. They can do whatever they want and they have all the time in the world to do so.
Oh no! If Crytek says it then it must be true! :oSecret-Face
Still, all developers are moving to consoles
How many third party exclusives on the ps3 or 360 that aren't first party funded are their? Higher development cost has lead to more and more developers going multiplatform this gen but people only seem to notice when it happens to pc and ignore the same thing happening on consoles.DJ_HeadshotYep. Neither is console exclusive development justifiable. Sony has to buy all these studios and give them millions, only to have the games fall short.

You do realize that Blizzard have long development times even before WoW? Plus Crytek are in a good position right now, they're one of EA's best studios which means they get all the funding they need from EA.

Hermits fall back to them thinking they're the rule, not the exception. That's where I think they're wrong.
[QUOTE="GeneralShowzer"][QUOTE="Stevo_the_gamer"]No game needs tens of millions of dollars for a budget on any platform.gmaster456Well Crysis was the most expensive PC game ever made, but that's because they made the most advanced engine ever made along with it. The Witcher 2 costs 8 million to make. That's not much, they would get their budget back if they sold like 400.000 copies. If they want to bring it to consoles however it would cost a lot more money. But they'd also make a lot more money Their is no guarantee they will sell enough copies to make up the increased development and advertising cost.

And so many console developers doing PC games now, unlike it was in the past.Let´s face it,everyone wants to go multiplatform this gen, wheter they are PC or console devs.
OH YES Blizzard and VALVE. Clearly if they can be SO successful -- two companies that never pushed the technical boundaries of games like Crysis did -- CLEARLY everyone else can do JUST as well.[QUOTE="SkyWard20"][QUOTE="Vesica_Prime"]
Whatever you say Crytek, while you're dumbing down games. Blizzard is buying their thousandth yacht due to money made exclusively from PC gaming.

Good point. I also like how Starcraft 2 was mentioned.
Im also aware Diablo 3 is coming too.
Probably all good games, but so little of them. Why can't Blizzard and Valve have more variety? Why do PC Gamers love to be milked such as TF2 hats?
Oh well, PC Gamers no more excuses, stop being hypocrits.
That made no sense. Blizz and Valve should have more variety? What do you mean by that, they do not make only one kind of game.
Milked from TF2 hats? Nobody is forcing you to get a stupid hat. Is not that your gun will not shoot if you don't have a hat on your head. At least TF2 players get maps for free, you know things that really do matter.

Most of their games are multiplayer-heavy, so if you only want to have "PC: it only does RTS/FPS/MMO's", then be my guest and praise on.Where are you getting this hat BS from? Yes TF2 has hats. That doesn't mean PC gamers are obsessed with themTF2 gamers are obsessed with hats, way more than free maps or whatever, its pitiful.

Anyway, this article doesn't mean that Crytek hates PC gaming, or that they think it's a doomed platform: just that it's not profitable for their games to remain exclusive. I think the reverse works for consoles too. Most good games are multiplat; deal with it, etc.
Love how Dice is the new God of PC gaming and Crytek are not suddenly idiots according to most PC gamers. Two years ago it was the opposite. :P
Let's face reality here people, neither system can justify a 15mil+ budget of an exclusive game. Yes there is Valve, Blizzard, Sony Santa Monica Studio, Naughty Dog and Epic (Gears) but those are the exceptions that confirmes the rule. There is no point in making an exclusive game anymore when you can have two extra safety nets.

DICE? New? Where were you during BF1942 and BF2?
Multiplats are fine, if all the recent engines weren't console engines with poor PC ports.Love how Dice is the new God of PC gaming and Crytek are not suddenly idiots according to most PC gamers. Two years ago it was the opposite. :P

And yet BF3 on PC will probably sell more than twice as much as Crysis 2 on PC.
Gee... I wonder which mindset will work out better.Mystic-G

Or they just don't buy enough CRYtek games to justify big budget CRYtek games.foxhound_foxI see what you did thar. lol :P
really then crytek would have went on bankruptcy after crysis 1John_ReadThey sold more than enough of Crysis to justify it's budget...

"Cevat Yerli:Well, commercially, we had hopes that were not met. But the real expectations were actually met. As a developer we made a profit, so we're happy."
And this interview is from 2008, the game proved to have legs.
Console Futuremark2, Cry's next ip?Maybe if Crytek actually made good games instead of just benchmarks, more people would buy them.

And that's why it's gonna sell more. Consolites think it's about exclusivity. No, it's about our version not sucking.Mystic-G
It's nice to see someone in this thread actually thinking. There's a reason that most companies are going multiplatform this gen. Games cost a lot of money to make and they want to get back as much of that as possible.Anyway, this article doesn't mean that Crytek hates PC gaming, or that they think it's a doomed platform: just that it's not profitable for their games to remain exclusive. The original Crysis cost 22 million to make and sold 3 million.
Now this is 150 million and you can minus whatever other costs (crysis didn't have a major advertising campaign so don't even need to worry there). TBH they are correct, but no platform can justify it really. Still they seem to be side stepping the issue of why was the PC version a straight up console port? It looks a little better obviously and runs better, but there's barely any difference in the visuals even though crytek promised there would be.
The PC crowd is much different than the console crowd. There is a much greater variety of good games on the pc, and it's rare to see one game that is just dominant sales-wise. Crytek is right that fps's generally sell better on consoles, but making amazing open world fps's (what they're best at) just isn't possible on the console hardware. If they were smart, they would crawl back to pc gamers and wait on the next generation of consoles to try again.

Crytek just wanted to get in the Call of Duty action so they started making excuses to go multiplatform, that´s what it is.[QUOTE="Mystic-G"]

Well, they aren't crying, TC just picked out one sentence from a 3 pages long interview about tech stuff.Yeah, Crysis 2 pretty much has all of the console sales that it's going to get.I don't wish bad sales on them or anything, but isn't the opening week for an AAA console game when it gets the most sales?

They are mostly complaining about consoles old hardware and doing some small damage control.
"We could have gone the easy way and simply disabled features for consoles and lower-spec machines, but this time around we wanted everyone to experience our game in the best possible way their favourite system allows." - if your favourite system is a console. There's almost no real difference between hardcore and extreme. I like what they did with low end hardware, however they did nothing with high end hardware despite promising to do so.
