Devs need to STFU about this, imo. Renting and buying used is perfectly within the rights of gamers. Devs/publishers need to get over it. It's not like this is a new thing.

I agree I thing they should get a small cut of rentals and used sales, but there has to be something in it for the re sellers and rental places for them to agree.

Well I rented God of War 3, i had no real incentive to buy it, make a game longer than one rental with replay value if developers want to solve the problem of rents. For Used games? there is nothing we can do about that

I think that is a given. I wouldn't say it's the sole factor in last months slump though. @Cherokee_Jack: I think EA is thinking of and implementing solutions, whether gamers like them or not.

Well, let's hope that resolves the situation and leaves everyone satisfied. But I think we know how that stuff will turn out.

Gaming is more popular, so more people do it now. That's my guess. Also creating games is a lot more expensive yet game prices haven't risen.

No, I'm just letting everyone debate amongst themselves on a particular issue. I don't really care about converting people to my stance, just like the news reports who just report on a particular issue.

Also mate, I wasn't the one manipulating Jaffe's words nor was I pressuring Jaffe to say it. Don't shoot the messenger.

Developers don't want to make demos, they want to kill game rentals, they want to kill the used game market... what the **** are we, as consumers, supposed to do when it comes to games that we're sitting on the fence about, or don't believe they're worth $60? I don't know about you, but I have yet to develop the ability to tell the future, to see if a game is actually good or not.

Maybe because dev costs have gotten increasingly expensive this generation. But they should have lowered a bit by this point in the cycle.

I'm not a mega-corp sympathizer though. I do love supporting devs I like, but if more games with a high amount value hit the market, we'd hear less outcry by the industry. Also, a lot of gamers are low on cash because they're in school, no job, or too young to even work. Hell, I'm sure devs / pubs are getting paid well for the most part.

Yes, renting is such a bad thing. How awful that people don't want to pay for products that aren't worth $60. Devs need to stop crying and get over it. They're not helping themselves by putting on this "Oh, poor us!" act.

Yeah, I weep for all of those lost profits.

Seriously, who gives a flying ****? If a few corporations eat it, I'll still be playing games. Independent game development is alive and well, and gaming is well established as an entertainment medium; it isn't going to crash and burn tomorrow, or dissappear, or anything.

I couldn't care less about how well EA, and Activision, and Ubisoft are doing; screw them, and screw the mindset that says they deserve even a modicum of our sympathy.

Stop releasing piss quality games with no replayability for $60. Stop burning your customers with draconian anti-piracy measures. Stop whining about rentals and used games as if you actually think anyone gives a **** about your quarterly reports.

Adapt, fight for the consumer's money, and give them reasons to make a full purchase, or shut the hell up.

Indeed. If it really hurts so much, shouldn't they have developed a workable solution that consumers are happy with by now?

Instead they keep trying these forced strategies that screw us, and don't help them much either.

that's true but since there are more games comming out it means that a person may rent a game and instead of buying it later he/she would be mero inclined to buy another game instead.

I'm talking about profit.

Ok, look at it this way... there are some people who buy games in the first week, or month, of release. Many of these people do so with the knowledge that they can turn around and resell the game and get half their money back within the first couple weeks of release. This is because of the presence of the used game market. I believe that if the used game market were to disappear, we'd see a drop in purchases for new games at the full $60 price tag. And buying a game after price drops hurts the industry about as much as buying the game used.

Yes, and no ****. Nothing new here. The best way to curb this is to stop pumping out sequels and poor quality games, and more people will buy them. Also, advertising your game, or rather what sets it apart, isn't too bad an idea either.

Every manufacturer of anything has to compete with their own used products, I don't see what makes game devs so special, it's not like they have to deal with the rampant piracy that music and movie producers do.

it's called upscaling, by raising prices you choose to sacrifice some sales, i doubt Mercedes or BMW are complaining they aren't getting the sales of Honda

Exactly, I only buy used because the full price is either poor value or I'm just not super interested in the game. If it wasn't for the used game market I would never have taken the plunge into something like Shadow Of The Colossus or Okami, very glad I did. Also, the money I save from buying used games eventually goes towards buying new games I really want. I physically hate people that trash used game consumers. Single use codes are evil too.
