[QUOTE="Vandalvideo"] It was knocked by the reviewer for being too easy forhim. Thats all reviews really ammount to, the value judgments of the reviewer. The reviewer isn't psychic, he can't gauge how everyone will react to the game.WAIW
Yes, but then what stops a reviewer from rating some extremely niche, guilty pleasure of their's game a 10? They obviously consider other people when they write their review
I'm assuming this is not a very good game, otherwise there'd be nothing wrong with giving a niche game a 10.
Basic standards would. The problem here is that you're saying difficulty is an ABSOLUTE BAD, which it is certainly not. It is something to warn players about -- which the review rightly does -- but whether or not it is too hard for people is based on THEIR individual merits, not the game's. Demon Soul's individual merits were worthy of a 9, just not everyone will be able to appreciate it because of their own lack of skill/intelligence/etc.
Games should get knocked for being to easy, and also for being to hard. Prince of persia got knocked for being too easy. But somehow DS gets by unscathed?
Example to first point: I love harvest moon games, there's just something about them. But if i gave a review for it, there's no way I'd give it a high score, just like pretty much every other reviewer out there wouldn't either. It's not accessable at all, and it's really easy.
EDIT: accidentally deleted first part of post, though i was in new page when i was really editing, i retyped it to the best of my ability
