99.9987%Yeah but how many of those people actually bought the game

Except that it's already been clarified BY THE ORIGINAL SOURCE as having been misinterpreted. The PC had more players than either console, not both combined, and it was at one specific point in time, not overall. It certainly shows that a lot of PC gamers bought the game, but you may want not want to break out the "we're #1" foam fingers just yet.lowe0
You have to realize console gamers will forget about this game in a few weeks, the PC players will continue to buy this for a long period of time.
Sorry to be a silly console person. But if it's as easy to stop pirates just by linking to an EA (or whoever) account, why don't all devs do this? Instead of horrible invasive DRM. locopathoThis has probably already been addressed but just in case here goes: The authentication for EA servers is in order to play online with the actual game community (and not a much smaller pirate community). This doesn't need to be done for single player games and that is the reason devs invest so much into DRM for games that don't have a strong multiplayer component.
I can't say I really care one way or the other about mods... I'm partial to playing the game the way the developers intended (not a disadvantage for mods, just a preference), and I'm also more interested in playing a finished, professionally-tested product.[QUOTE="cobrax55"]
Because quite honestly, dedicaded servers are better then P2P matchmaking in every single way possible. Its not even an opinion, its just fact. Dedicaded servers support more players, their much faster to get into, and they have far less lag.
As for mods...well arguing agaist free content is just downright stupid. Especially given that the Battlefield series is well known for many of its high quality mods.

Server browsers do have one real disadvantage versus matchmaking, though - matchmaking abstracts the server component, and focuses on what's actually important (the set of people you're playing with). Instead of looking through the server list to find one with players of skill equal to your own, the matchmaking server (which has all of your play statistics anyway) can do the work for you. The same goes for playing with friends - instead of all agreeing on a server, it'll just start a game and put you all together in it, with zero effort on your part.
That said, it'd be easy to design a system that combines the advantages of matchmaking with those of dedicated servers (without a server browser). Just let players register a dedicated server GUID (assigned by the master server, independent of IP address and such) to their gamertag/PSN account. Then, during host negotiation, just poll the player list for server GUIDs, and if one or more is found, use the best one based on availability and overall ping. This is probably very similar to how Section 8's X-Servers work.
You clearly haven't played a good mod or know what a quality mod is capable of. Check out Project Reality mod for BF2, Or natural selection mod for Half-life, or counter-strike even.Jeez, this has been stated many times, but you don't seem to get it. You can't play BC2 online with a pirated copy.Yeah but how many of those people actually bought the game

[QUOTE="adamosmaki"]Not always true but yes thanks to your key linked to EA is hard to use a pirated copy to play online and although probably there are some pirates there number must be minimal as opposed to legal owners who play online
Also although this is not much to on about but in Amazon.De the best selling game is the pc version of BC2Enosh88
well, third is the PC version of MW2 :P
It's only 19.99 euros at the moment which might have something to do with it. Looks like a good deal, I passed on MW2 but if it were < $30 (retail here, or Steam) for the PC version I'd consider picking it up.
At any rate, it's nice BC2 appears to have a very successful home on the PC, haven't had much time to play the full version yet (arrived today), but I thought the beta was a blast!
Not surprised.....Can't get online with BC2 due to server issuesWWIABWell I don't believe 360 is having this issue, correct me if I'm wrong. Typically 360 sales are higher than that of PS3's due to the install base so even if you weren't I don't think much would change.
What don't you understand? You cannot play online with a pirated copy.Instashot

Oh there's no question that there might be some private servers running, but that community would be so incredibly small that the fun would probably be greatly diminished playing against the same people all the time. And either way there is no way that pirate private servers could have been figured into these statistics, that would be like counting LAN games.[QUOTE="Instashot"] What don't you understand? Even if they have found a way to play on cracked servers, they still cannot play with the general population which means they still arent being counted by EA here. Either way cracked servers tend to be complete crap, without cheat protection and unranked. This is why most people pretty much consider pirating multiplayer games to be virtually impossible.

Those are singleplayer cracks, not multiplayer....read the comments for the torrents, there are always people asking if they can play online and everyone will always tell them no.

unless they hacked into EA's account server and found an unused CD key or other wise authenticated their account they would not show up in EA's observation. Are they sure they don't count pirates? I mean this sounds...surprising...Revan_911just like they do on consoles right? it's not very easy to pirate online games. you need a key, they know which keys have been released and which haven't so if you get a keygen and it generates a non released key it wont work. consoles are just as easy and is done as much as pc.
[QUOTE="Revan_911"]Are they sure they don't count pirates? I mean this sounds...surprising...clubsammich91I think they do since it's hard to tell who pirated the game and who didn't when they're looking at the number of people online. bought = works online pirated wont work on ea's servers. pretty easy to see. just admit it, the pc version is doing better than the console version.
My (P)iece of (C)rap won't even play Bejeweled without locking up, so I guess I'll be in the minority then, and playing it on my PC centric
. Good for PC gamers though, because this game simply rocks!!
You clearly haven't played a good mod or know what a quality mod is capable of. DabunzieI've gamed on PCs dating back to before 3D accelerators - hell, I remember upgrading to 8 MB of RAM, the Win95 transition, the aforementioned advent of 3D, and quite a few other major events in PC gaming.
And in all that time, you're suggesting I never played a good mod. Are you really sure you want to stand by that statement?

well then you have obviously been playing the wrong mods.

IT IS ENTIRELY POSSIBLE THAT SOMEONE ELSE MAY NOT CARE ABOUT SOMETHING YOU LIKE. THAT DOESN'T MAKE THEM WRONG, NOR DOES IT MEAN THAT THEY HAVE BEEN DOING SOMETHING WRONG.Do I have to make the text 36pt too, or am I getting my point across?
Are you really suppose to believe that? PR talk to downplay the mess the PC version is experiencing. Jamex1987its been working fine for me, hum, i dont envy your problems

were not talking about a single game here...were talking about what essencially amounts to 1000's of content packs. I have serious trouble believing that you have not been able to find at least one mod for a game you like. Frankly, I cant see how somebody who loves portal wouldnt like Portal: First Slice. How someone who likes the battlefield series wouldnt like Desert Combat.
And furthermore....were just talking about full conversion mods here...what about multiplayer maps? are you seriously telling me you wouldnt like a virtually endless supply of high quality maps for your multiplayer games?
Frankly...I think your full of it.

Just don't bother with lowe0. He probably loves his home theatre setup and uses every opportunity to argue against clear advantages for the PC.Frankly...I think your full of it.
And finally, we come to the last page of the PC Gamer's Handbook: when all else fails, accuse them of lying. I think we're done here. In otherwords, he got your number and you have your tail between your legs... hes right... anybody could find some enjoyment out of some mods...Frankly...I think your full of it.

I didn't say I hated mods. I said that I really don't care about mods. But hey, if making **** up makes it easier for you to argue against, knock yourself out.
