It wasn't the score so much as the reasons he gave for it.

He said you could bulldoze through the game in 3 hours if you wanted to.

First of all, I think that's false...I don't know many people who could finish MGS that fast, including room for making mistakes.

And secondly, even if it were possible to do so...who judges a game's worth by a speed run?

AmyMizuno

3 hours? Nah, you can even beat the game in 2 hours. I'm currently writing a FAQ for MGS, and it is true that you could beat the game in a short period of time (big boss rating actually requires this), but why would you want to?

It was actually common for many of the playstation classics to only be a few hours long. I beat Resident Evil 2 (Leon A) in 2 hours and 3 minutes when I was writing the speed run section of my RE2 FAQ.

I have great respect for you faq writers...you've helped in many a tough situation, so props to you.

But you have to understand that normal people like myself with slow reflexes are unable to keep up with you guys.

Well I get where you are coming from, just look at Silent Hill for example. Silent Hill I would stress to say is probably twice as hard as MGS to understand. The big problem with these is that since the masses will either A) not get them, or B) not have the patience to get them, they don't tend to sell well. You can plow through Silent Hill with a vague understanding of what is happening. All the games are laced together in a hard to udnerstand wicked way.

Well, that's interesting...I didn't know that since I've never really gotten into the Silent Hill games. Not a big fan of survival horror :P

If you love stories in your games, you're making a mistake in ignoring Silent Hill. :P

But, but...I also like dry underwear!

Haha I'm playing Origins on PS2 right now and a dude named the Butcher (early Pyramid Head) is chasing my ass with a huge knife.

Yeah. I was actually looking forward to the cutscenes. Metal Gear is better than what's playing in the movies.

No, no its not.

I'm glad I was like 16 or 17 when I first played Silent Hill 2 when it first came out, because I'm pretty sure that Pyramid Head would have haunted my dreams for months if I was much younger.

What a ****ed up character, but so awesome. And the entire reason behind his existence is just amazing. I miss Silent Hill 2 a lot. Methinks I'm gonna have to polish that game off soon and give it another go.

the people bashing mgs4 for the cutscenes are really dumb. first of all the game has been confirmed to be 29 hours long with 1/3 cutscenes. that means theres 20 hours of gameplay. second of all not only do you get a 30 hour game, but you also get metal gear online, which is all gameplay.

I think I was 14 when SH2 haunted my dreams. My god. Memories. You'd like Origins, Travis is just as messed up as James Sunderland. Travis is not quite as repressed as James though. Travis has more reasons for being messed up.

Confirmed by EGM editors to be fake, especially that bit about Gears of War being 15 hours long (lol).

Ok yeah, that 15 hours long did made me go wow, especially compared to the first one lol.
