It IS a BIG ouch, since it doesn't seem MGS4 will be the GODLY game every cow has been screaming it would be.

Those scans are from Edge magazine, which is a UK-based publication. You're allowed to post scans that are from outside of the U.S., just not in.

Ya, MGS fans are the loudest fans out there. When people talk about it being the greatest game of all time and a GoTY contender, and in a respected console mag it does not even get GoTM, thats a blow to those insane fans.
But to everyone else it will be a quality exclusive for the ps3.
June will be a good month. But I am glad NG2 is coming out first. I can not wait for that game.
[QUOTE="cowgriller"]well at GS, it is. because the scores are based on .5 unlike the past when it was based on .1, a .1 can be the difference between a 9 and a 9.5.
Zenkuso
EGM is Based on the .5 System its basically rounds off on all scores.
I Prefer the .1 System myself but with the fact that EGM is a Core Gamer Magazine it comes down to the which is more simple for people to understand.
I don't care really, the game could have gotten all B- from them and I will still get it, I rarely read a reviews.
As I see it, Ninja Gaiden 2 Action is a Supplement to Metal Gear Solids 4 Story ;)
Both balance out each others flaws out perfectly.
i remember when GS was based on the .1 system. hell i remember years ago when multiplats were given separate scores. nowadays, they give multi's the same score as each other regardless if one has more flaws than the other. tbh, i don't think that mgs4 will get higer than 8.5 on GS but as you said, you don't care about reviews. i for one can't stand the mgs series. i played the original for the ps a decade ago and never liked it. the game play wasn't great at all, especially with the overhead camera that made it seem as if you were playing in a maze rather than an action game. too damn many cutsences. i admit that i like cutsences, especially ones that add new levels of story, dialogue and emotions to a game that would otherwise be absent, but seriously, there is a limit. mgs forced the gamer to sit through 15 minutes of cutsences in between gameplay moments. several of these cutsences really add up and in mgs4, it really does show being that the game is said to be 1/3 cutsences. as for skipping the cutsences, yes you can do that, but then you'll miss relevant information about what is truely happening storywise in the game. all i'm saying is, keep the cutsences but keep them short. hopefully you enjoy mgs4 when you get it. we all have different tastes in games, and this one leaves a sour taste in my mouth.
Cons: More Cutscenes than Gameplay
I'm giving this thread the benifit of the doubt but im starting to question it.
So, when you average out the score, it shows that MGS4 still has not gotten anything below AAA from critics yet.
I think this really squashes those fanboy pipe dreams of the game getting AAAA here or other major sources. The hype should just stay AAA like we started out.

OMFG. NG2 has a New Game + mode. I did not know that.
[quote="Games Radar"]Another important thing that I'd like to note is unlike the previous Ninja Gaiden, in Ninja Gaiden 2 once you've completed the game on a difficulty level with all your weapons, you'll be able to start a new game on the same difficulty and keep all those weapons. So if there's a weapon you haven't got until later on in the game and you want to use it right away you'll be able to do that in the second play through. We think that really helps with replay value as well.Zeliard9
This and the video mode is so much win. Just so much absolute win.
And this youtube vid of a fight at the Werewolf Colosseum (great name) is in low quality but still badass:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=OOviCJSzlp4
Where the **** is the demo?!
LOL, hanging off hellicopters right after fighting in a werewolf colosseum. NG is ridiculous, but that's what I love about it. :)[QUOTE="BioShockOwnz"][QUOTE="Forensic-Klown"]Love it how some reviews sound like there isn't a skip button...after the first play through and you know the story, the next time you simply skip the scenes, like most would do.
hardly a con...geez.
if anything, games these days need good storys...longer the better, IMO.
gasmaskman
I don't think it's the fact that you can't skip them. It says:
Cons: more cutscenes than gameplay!
That's completely different. There's ways to tell stories without cutscenes. Some of the best games told stories without constant cutscenes.
Why does it matter? I don't mind - the story is great, and I don't mind cutscenes. It's the way the series has always been... people should be used to it.
Yea it seems like these guys never played a MGS game before. I dont mind some extra cutscenes if the story is good. They should be use to this by now.
At EGM, a game has to get at least all A-'s to get a gold award (AAA).So, when you average out the score, it shows that MGS4 still has not gotten anything below AAA from critics yet.

Can anyone confirm this is legitimate? Anyone seen his scans?vspectra6
Some of that info, especially the stuff about Gears 2, seems too logical and realistic to have been made up. There's also info about some games no one would think to bring up just like that, like Skies of Arcadia and Deblob. This is very likely legit, though it's true that without actual proof, you never know.

EGM actually gave MGS on the PS1 a platinum award (three 10's), and MGS2 a gold award. Honestly, if you don't mind a lot of cut scenes, then you should be good to go. The point of them putting the review is giving your their opinion and letting you go off that. They didn't say the cut scenes were bad, but not for them. If it's your kinda' thing, then it's a pro for you.[QUOTE="vspectra6"]Can anyone confirm this is legitimate? Anyone seen his scans?Zeliard9

Yeah, but some people are good at making up stuff and have it sound legit. :p
[QUOTE="Forensic-Klown"][QUOTE="L1qu1dSword"][QUOTE="TBoogy"]Ah...the first beating of MGS by NG2.
Keep 'em coming!
manny280
oh yes! haze was only the begining of the cow feast to come. bring on the burgers cause mgs4 is gonna be butchered by NG2!!!
NG2, a game which will most likely have the same luckluster story with only being the gameplay thats good? MGS4 is the whole package, only a X-fanboy would agree with you. sorry.
dont kid yourself mgs will have a better storyline but NG gameplay is miles beyond anything mgs can hope to accomplish
The games have different gameplay. Why the hell would I want to see snake jumping around like a crazy person slashing ninjas. You cant compare these 2 games in the gameplay department.
"Cons more Cute Scenes than gameplay" is a lie. The OPM said the game was 29 hours long with 2\3 being gameplay with the rest being cutscenes and codec conversations. EGM bias much?Jeremiah123456
How you can accuse someone else of bias with an avatar like yours boggles the mind.

I have no clue if its real or not. But, I will recall what you just said. That's a bold statement.
[QUOTE="mastarifla"][QUOTE="Zenkuso"]yea I am gonna quote this before you redo your math.Ninja Gaiden and Metal Gear Solid 4 come out as 9.0 (AAA) titles when you add the scores together, they come out exactly the same...
Common Sense FTW!
Zenkuso
A + A- + A- = 9.1
A+ + A- + B+ = 9.0
0.1 Isn't Exactly Something to Be Claiming Ownage Over ;)
A = 4.0
A- = 3.7
B+ = 3.3
Therefore, Ninja Gaiden II came out with a (3.8/4)*100 = 95
Metal Gear Solid 4 came out with a (3.66/4)*100 = 91.6
Your math, and therefore your reasoning, is flawed.

That's not how EGM hands out their awards, though. Average it out all you want, but it's still only silver (AA) in EGM.If you're talking about Game Rankings, then sure.

- Ninja Gaiden II "Game of the Month" (360): A [Milkman] A- [Bettenhausen] A- [Garnett Lee]
- Metal Gear Solid IV (PS3): A [Jeremy Parish] A- [Crispin Boyer] B+ [Milkman]
MGS4 did not receive an A+, from the TC's post.

I'm a fan of the series, I'll admit it out right and Won't hide it.
I personal enjoy the characters, concepts and intrigue of the story as a whole.
Game reviewing is more simplified nowadays, its why I don't read them much anymore, but metal gear solid has been a AA series here on Gamespot so I wouldn't be surprised at all.
I have different tastes to a lot of people around here, I've been playing games since the 80's and I've come to enjoy certain aspects of games more nowadays then before but I don't bash people for there choices in games cause each of us enjoy something different to one another, most people around here don't debate they just bash which is quite annoying but thats the internet for ya ;)
