I don't like the fact that 360 fans are not paying attention what's going on here. They're more worried about how it's impossible for GeoW to go port, but the real issue is the relationship with Epic and M$. Being that GeoW is the only blockbuster franchise on the 360, look what micromanag..err... I mean Microsoft is doing to it. What will happen if Mass Effect becomes a blockbuster? or Bioshock? Why is it always a money issue with M$? This could be a catastrophe in the making if M$ continue to be money hungry.Socrates88
But sony´s the arrogant devil! MS is a beautiful angel.

How about a quick and dirty "Gears of War 2:Get out of the Contract Don't Buy Me Edition" and they are free to do what they want. They made UE3, how hard is it to just crank out a game that doesn't really improve on the original at all. It might hurt thier rep a bit but games like DMC2 and 3 were horrible and there is still a million people clamorig for DMC4.
If they did what I said they could get out of that bogus MS contract very easily and those threats aren't so "empty" any more.

Well, I don't really care for the price by itself. I just find the amount of faux caring put up by Rein to be rather distasteful. Still, a $40 game is always nice :D

And the chance of that happening is nearly negative. It's a viable although extreme measure, that would be foolhardy and damaging to both companies.
But why release the map packs for money if they were so against the idea of charging for them? Why "threat" to move GeoW to the PS3 and all the other nonsense when they knew very well that they had no viable way to do so whatsoever?

Please just stop man. First off (ot), DMC 3 was arguably the best DMC in the series; its deep combat is what makes many believe its better than the first. Secondly, you have no idea what the content of the MS/ Epic contract contains, so you have no right to speculate what could or could not be done. All we know is the Gears of War franchise is co-owned by MS so there's no way it'll appear outside of a MS product.
Thirdly, this "threatening" idea is just childish PR. If Epic is indeed trying to break off the relationship with MS (which will REALLY, REALLY hurt them badly), it will result in many lawsuits which could ultimately cost both companies millions of dollars.....MS can afford it, and they got the better lawyers; Epic is not ready for that.

No it's not. Unlike Gears, Mario is a trademark. The halo series is a trademark of Microsoft. See how that works? Anyway, the first 2 Gears will stay on a Microsoft platform.
In all honesty I hope they do bring Gears to the PS3.. as it would be a slap in the face of M$ and let them know how much Bull**** this micro-transaction nonsense is.. OhSnapitz
QFT, the GH2 prices for GH songs is a bunch of bull. I hate micro-transactions. At least Resistance gave free maps, which I gotta download. Also gotta pick up Tekken 5 DR.

From N4G:
It would seem that Developer/Publisher relations between Epic and Microsoft Game Studios is at an all time low and even spilling out into the public. In short, Epic has had to break every rule they've laid down for themselves and their reputation with the PC gaming community in the name of Microsoft profiteering... and they know it!
Cliff Bleszinski of Epic has even been quoted as threatening Microsoft to port over GeOW to the PS3 to try to leverage some developer rights over the content of the game and XBox Live, but they have already inked the contract and Microsoft is winning much to the chagrin of Epic.makingmusic476While this doesn't seem likely seeing as MS owns the rights to the first two Gears titles, this just shows how Epic truly cares about the gamers. They wanted the Gears map pack to be free, and not cost $10 like MS made them charge for it. They're standing up to MS and their bull*** micro-transactions. I've read in other articles that they think that games should actually be getting cheaper, like down to the DVD level, so that the gaming market would grow substantially and everyone would benefit.
I love Epic!
UT ftw!
*****Edited for more stuff*****
Here's the article where Mark Rein of Epic says games should be priced around the level of DVDs...
Here's the exact quote:
A very smart man, Dave Jones, told me the other day that ultimately, games need to be the same price as DVDs. If we could sell these kind of quantities, that would be do-able. I mean, I don't know if we can get down to DVD prices anytime soon, that's going to take exponential growth to the size of our marketplace, if we could get a percentage of the resale revenue. I don't mean a guy selling on Ebay, I mean the stores. Mark ReinAnd then another one from the same article:
I hate to hear people talk about "We're going to charge more because it costs more". Sure, it costs more because you're developing using better technology and making better games. Not just because you're wasting money developing your own tools - there's a lot of people that are doing that.
You could consider me a little disingenuous on this because I've got technology to sell to people, but there's other technology you can buy, not just ours. People who are trying to re-invent the wheel are spending way more money than they should. Our own games, we're seeing a 30-50% increase in cost, but we're expanding our teams and make much better games.
UT 2007 is way more detailed than any UT games we've done prior to this title. It's not processed three times, and it's not costing us 30 million USD. There's no excuse for us to raise the price. I hope retail and rental dovetail into that and hopefully reduce the people playing our games that aren't paying us. When we worked with Atari, they sold our games for $39 and we actually agree with that policy. Reduce the price of our game, not increase it.
It's a little more difficult to do that on consoles because you're paying royalties to the manufacturers, but you're paying royalties to subsidise the machine and marketing. If we were able to share with them the money they make from rentals and retail, that could help lower the price. I hate hearing people want to raise the price. If you can't afford it, you shouldn't have it. My point is that if we can make it more affordable, we can grow the market. One of the ways we can do that is to use Unreal Engine 3 and take advantage of the productivity gains you can take from that. Mark Rein
I want to cry right now... this is.. just.. so beautiful/.. M$ IS BEING THREATENED TO HAVE ONE OF THEIR BEST TITLES MADE MULTI PLAT !!! EPIC is my hero !!

Two words: bad faith. If you try to fulfil a contract in a shady or shoddy manner, the other half of the contract can probably turn around and sue you for essentially reneging on the contract by making a shill for your product. I believe it's happened at least once in the consumer sphere in the last 20 years.[QUOTE="ParadiddleFill"][QUOTE="e20Dylan"][QUOTE="JiveT"]I wonder if the relationship is really falling apart or this is just a lot of guff. [QUOTE="ironcreed"][QUOTE="ParadiddleFill"][QUOTE="ironcreed"][QUOTE="ParadiddleFill"][QUOTE="ironcreed"][QUOTE="TreyoftheDead"]Oh man, this thread is the ultimate example of fanboy logic.
Lemmings have been using GeoW to claim ownage ever since the game came out: "GeoW has better graphics.", "GeoW is teh awesome!", "PS3 doesn't have a game like GeoW!", etc. Almost every single lemming praised GeoW and complained about M$ charging for the maps when Epic wanted to give them out for free.
And now that Epic has threatened porting GeoW to the PS3 in protest of M$ forcing them to do things they are against, they are suddenly the bad guys.
"Epic is pretending to be the hero while taking your money with their other hand!"
Boohoo. Just a few weeks ago most of you were praising Epic for standing up against M$, but now that the PS3 has entered the equation you say Epic is just as greedy as M$.
Pathetic.
ParadiddleFill
Agreed. Very well put.
first of all epic isnt threating porting gears of war to the ps3 that was just a rumor created by some obscure playstaion 3 forum website called sony protection group but cows dont care about that they'll believe anything
I never said it was a fact, bud. But we cannot be so certain that Epic is not having issues with Microsoft, now can we? Also, I am not a "cow", either, as last time I checked, I was human. I own a 360 as well, but I would love to see more Epic support on the PS3 is all, as the PS3 is my preferred console.
Sorry if you cannot handle the fact that Microsoft is not the angels that you pretend they are.....as you sure seem to want to defend them, and why, I have no idea, lol. As they sure as hell do not care about you. At least Epic is trying to give a little back to the people who bought their product, but Micro-transaction-$oft want's to do otherwise, and take, take, take. Who is the real cow here, my friend?
i doubt you own a 360 plus im not defending microsoft i dont like what there doing with the whole charging for maps but you have to understand it as a bussniess point of view the fact is that microsoft is a corporation and corporations main goal is to make money for there stock holders
LMFAO....doubt away, fanboy. Why not read my numerous, and VERY POSITIVE 360 reviews on my profile. I do not have to prove anything to the likes of you. I do indeed have a 360, and a PS3, and I could give a rats a$$ whether you believe it or not. Who do you think you are anyway?
you gave RFOM a 9.7 and Gears of war 8.6 sounds like a sony fanboy to me
First of all, they're very different games. More importantly RFOM has more replay value.
so that the gaming market would grow substantially and everyone would benefit.
makingmusic476
Of course everyone would benefit...except those who make the game. It doesn't get cheaper to make the games just because DVD's are cheaper. It costs MILLIONS to make a game, more than that, I don't think many people understand that.
And it's against the Law for them to port it over without Microsoft consent, so Cliffy is just being stupid and couldn't think of another reason. He's a cool guy, but he needs to know when to keep it shut.

If the N64 went with CD's and not carts, Nintendo would have surely kept a lot of things, most notably FF. Sony would have had a much bigger struggle, they got lucky that Nintendo made that decision. It's debatable weather it was bad or not.

At the time, Sony made making games cheaper than Nintendo ever had. Looking at the last year of Sony gaming makes them look foolish, but their PS strategy was pretty awesome.
Anyway, getting back on topic.
Unless we have the contract in hand, we can't even say that there needs to be a GEARS 2.
Just because the other 2 or 3 posts in this thread apparently aren't enough to get it through some peoples heads:
MS owns the rights to the first 2 GeoW titles, its not coming to the PS3 until at least (if ever) GeoW 3.
pundog
No they dont, Epic owns the rights to the games since they make them and Midway has the publishing rights. If Epic approaches their publisher and says that they dont like what is going on, Midway and Epic have the rights to eliminate any contracts with Microsoft, including the Gears of War exclusivity rights. There is no law that says companies have to stick to contracts if they dont like the way things are going. If the 360 version of Unreal Tournament 3 got scrapped, that would put a big dent in the relationship between Epic and Microsoft, and to be honest I wouldnt blame Epic for doing it either, because players shouldnt have to pay for all the extras that PC and PS3 players would get.

It's not about Gears... directly anyway. The point is Epic released a game that lemmings have been throwing in people's faces. If Epic gets annoyed enough with Microsoft, they could end up in the Sony camp taking away a major 360 developer.
Add that to the fact that bioware is planning a PS3 exclusive after Mass Effect, things aren't looking as amazing for the 360 as lemmings try to make it seem.
If Epic cares so much about gamers they should pay for their own servers and release the content for free as well as having dedicated servers for Gears and fixing the damn bullet lag. But Microsoft should stop being so damn greedy and give me those damn maps for free.thirstychainsaw
This is so crazy, I'd almost expect it to come from a level 1. So they can't just ask that something be free for gamers? They have to build their own servers and actually lose money if they care so much? Wow. The only thing you said that was correct was that MS is being greedy.

Please enlighten us on what the contract entails since you are so smart. They could make a game that does nothing to improve on the last game and still get a game out very quickly. I am not saying it has to be total garbage but a new game cant be too hard to quickly push out to fulfill a contract of 2 games. MS has no quality control over the product. If you have used Windows you would know that they don't have much of an internal quality control either. They couldn't really say too much.
As far as DMC goes 2 was garbage but 3 was a bit better. Just like GeoW 2 could be mediocre and 3 could be a lot better. 1 mediocre game doesnt kill a series. Look at any series that exists for an example.
The chance of gears coming to PS3 is so very slim it isn't worth mentioning. I wouldn't doubt that if the guys at epic are this upset then gears 2 will probably be the last 360 game they make, and in truth I would rather have a new IP from epic on PS3.

Good point. I have a huge amount of respect for Epic, they really caught my attention with Unreal Tournament 2004 and Gears of War is a great game, I hope Epic continues it, but there would be a serious blow to Microsoft if they lost exclusive rights to Gears. Bioware has been known for working across different platforms so its no suprise that they are going to make a PS3 exclusive after Mass Effect, maybe they will do one for the Wii as well since they generally do make great games. Team Ninja could wind up making the next Ninja Gaiden game multiplatform if Sigma sells well enough (which I hope it does as it looks like it will be excellent).
I think developers also want to work with both types of technology though, hence Bioware jumping from one console to another. That sort of thing should be expected this gen though since we are talking about two completely different consoles in terms of hardware. Kojima has also expressed interest in making a 360 game, however it will not be MGS4 like so many lemmings seem to think.
I like Epic but it does come down to Microsoft's decision, and Epic did agree to this.
I still respect Epic, and even though the Map Pack cost $10, it was well worth it, and if anything, increased my respect for Epic's good work. There are a ton of crappy things on XBL for $10. While I can understand Epic feeling worried they are hurting their consumer relationship, I think that money will help them out. Didn't Microsoft pay for all the advertising and production of GoW anyways?

Epic is all about the gamers. Saying games should be the same price as DVDs is amazing. Not wanting to charge people for map packs is right there also. This is the kind of company that I want to give my business to. They are the opposite of a company like Ubisoft. Why MS would anger them when they give MS their best seller is anyone's guess. This is the kind of company that I want to give my business to. They are the opposite of a company like Ubisoft. Why MS would anger them when they give MS their best seller is anyone's guess. Maybe because Halo is about to drop and MS is feeling a little Arrogant. Dunno. Either way, I can't wait till part 2 is released because it's going to be interesting to see if 3 makes it to PS3.
Funny that they SAY it but don't DO it isn't it? They care about gamers so much that they tell you what should be done and do exactly what they say is bad for gamers.

[QUOTE="DSgamer64"][QUOTE="nnavidson"][QUOTE="DSgamer64"][QUOTE="pundog"]Just because the other 2 or 3 posts in this thread apparently aren't enough to get it through some peoples heads:
MS owns the rights to the first 2 GeoW titles, its not coming to the PS3 until at least (if ever) GeoW 3.

After Mass Effect 1 or all 3?
I kinda want to know what Bioware game would come out next? :D
I am pretty sure that Bioware is going to do 'Dragon Age' for the PS3. It is the next installment in the Baldur's Gate series.;)
