I like Epic but it does come down to Microsoft's decision, and Epic did agree to this.
I still respect Epic, and even though the Map Pack cost $10, it was well worth it, and if anything, increased my respect for Epic's good work. There are a ton of crappy things on XBL for $10. While I can understand Epic feeling worried they are hurting their consumer relationship, I think that money will help them out. Didn't Microsoft pay for all the advertising and production of GoW anyways?

I highly doubt that there was anything in the contract about allowing Microsoft to charge gamers for extra features, basically Epic got it thrown in their face that gamers are going to have to shell out cash for extra stuff. 10 dollars is a good chunk of change and only once have I ever seen upgrades for a game cost 10 dollars and that was the Inner Sphere and Clan Mech Packs for MechWarrior 4 and that idea was created by FASA Studios I do believe. MS turned around on Epic and said that any upgrades to Gears was going to cost money, and now MS could easily lose a developer for their console.

Because they are forcing Epic to make money? that makes sense
Epic could take their games off of Xbox360 altogether. All future Epic games will be made for PS3 and PC.NobuoMusicMakerPS3 needs to start bringing in the user base that will make devs put faith in the system and not the other next gen system with a larger user base almost 3x the competitors.
[QUOTE="greenleaf2000"]things look very dark for the 360 right about nowNeal_Gore

Everything Epic worked on would be own by Microsoft and that's including the U3 engine. Unreal Tournament would be MS product. You see, MS wouldn't need the people who made these games anymore especially when the engine is right there to make games off of.
[QUOTE="makingmusic476"]so that the gaming market would grow substantially and everyone would benefit.
Kenshi_is_god
Of course everyone would benefit...except those who make the game. It doesn't get cheaper to make the games just because DVD's are cheaper. It costs MILLIONS to make a game, more than that, I don't think many people understand that.
And it's against the Law for them to port it over without Microsoft consent, so Cliffy is just being stupid and couldn't think of another reason. He's a cool guy, but he needs to know when to keep it shut.
Yes, but if the market grows, then they sell more copies of each game, making up for the lower pricepoint. Mark Rein explains it all himself in the second quote from him in the OP.Either the story is a fake, or cliff doesn't understand business contracts epic signed with MS. Either way someone is an idiot. Everyone knows that gears cannot ever go to the ps3 simply because the gears 1 &2 licence belong to MS. Who knows what will happen after the release of 2 but that is the reality no matter who gets mad at who.cjnwo4life
that wouldn't stop them from changing it a bit and renaming it and porting it
I love how this thread points at all the people who bashed Gears now want it.
"Gears is over rated".
"Jeff sucks, he doesn't know how to review games".
"Gamespot is the basis".
"Gears is to short".
"Gear of Jaggies".
"Resistance is better".
I could keep going on and on... But the most funny thing is. It's not even going to come to PS3.

Bungie has more talent than all the developers in Japan
Neal_Gore
LOL, not saying Bungie isnt a great team and that Halo isnt awesome, but come on that statement is just silly.

The most funny thing is one of the best developers on the 360 is saying Microsoft is bad for gamers.

That's a good point, but they could just pay the fees to use the engine. Unless Microsoft charged some ungodly amount for it, but I doubt Microsoft is that evil.
Also, Microsoft could offer Epic everything they have and Epic could say no if they wanted to.
Sounds like what lems say about MGS4 and FF13.;)I love how this thread points at all the people who bashed Gears now want it.

[QUOTE="DSgamer64"][QUOTE="pundog"]Just because the other 2 or 3 posts in this thread apparently aren't enough to get it through some peoples heads:
MS owns the rights to the first 2 GeoW titles, its not coming to the PS3 until at least (if ever) GeoW 3.
Kenshi_is_god
No they dont, Epic owns the rights to the games since they make them and Midway has the publishing rights.
Im sorry, but when did Midway get the publishing Rights? Their name isn't on the GS page, or anywhere on the game. Where did you get that from?
Fact is, Microsoft published Gears of War and used its own money to advertise the game. And they only agreed to it on the condition that Microsoft would become part-owner of the Gears IP. Gamespot wrote about that a couple years ago, IIRC.Midway is current publisher of the Unreal games (including the upcoming UT3).
Sounds like what lems say about MGS4 and FF13.;) ragrdoll21
But I'm not a typical Lem. I'm one who hates rehashes. I been see countless times saying I only played FF 7 demo and never playing another FF game again. And played Metal Gear on the NES and then playing MGS on Playstation to never touch another MGS game again.
I'm not a hypocrite. ;)
as a lemming, i would applaud their stance and their committment to their values against the 800 lb gorilla.
it's important that ms does not mimick sony's arrogance and focus on revenue over gamers needs/wants.
while the idea of losing this exclusive would naturally hurt, i sincerely hope MS sees how the loss of this would hurt.
i think it's utter crap ms is not allowing developers more latitude in offering free d/l as a way of saying Thank You to the fans. While i understand the infrastructure isn't free, a few more freebies isn't going to financially collapse MS, i'm thinking.
if Epic follows thru, it will (should) serve as a wakeup call to MS...
c'mon MS...get your crap together....
just babbling,....pre-coffee....

Gears was/is gorgeous. My gripe with it was how short it was. Now if a developer could make it for a system with standard harddrive as well as blu-ray storage then that changes things.
[QUOTE="PS3_3DO"]The PS3 couldn't run GEOW! :lol:
mikasa
Sure it could. All they'd have to do is drop the textures a bit and reduce the draw distance. And drop all the rumble features. It wouldn't be as good, but it could do it and if you never saw the 360 version you'd be happy with it.
What about oblivion? When they ported that over the textures were better, the draw distance was significatnly better and the game ran much smoother.
I commend Epic, microtransactions are complete BS and should be done away with. When you buy a game for $60 and pay $30 - $50 each year for online, map packs and extra game content should come with the territory.
If people would stop buying the extra content, MS would have no choice but to make it free, but a smart consumer is hard to come by and there are too many idiots out there that pay for this content and keep this ridiculous practice going. If gamers would put their foot down and say "We're not paying for this s#!*" then you would probably see more free content.
So, I'm not sure what's worse... MS for doing it in the first place, or the idiots who support the practice.
