[QUOTE="BioShockOwnz"]This game is good and all, but Crysis is sooo much better.BioShockOwnz

That still leaves room for a great game. ;)

Indeed. This game's great, but Crysis just feels a lot more cohesive.

lol its very reminiscent though. there was a time where i got spotted and they moved towards me and i literally held down the mouse wheel and moved in the direction of where cloak was on the crysis interface  and i also miss my strength jump ontop of buildings lol

 WTH this game doesnt even have lean/prone buttons.

so much for stealth being the important factor in a far cry game. :|

Zenkuso

Stealth pointless most the time anyway, you stealth kill someone and it alerts everyone anyway :P

not if you use silencers.

i remeber that silenced MP5 in far cry 1. using it didnt alert the enemies

yeah no prone or lean buttons was a disappointment for me as well. lets hope for mods or patches and hopefully a fix for the low mouse sensitivity

Well ive been playing through it for over a couple of hours.

Its a great game, but its faults really do shine here and there.

In paticular - stealth is extremely difficult due to there being no indication of how well hidden you are - alot of the time its luck, enemies are extremely accurate, and blend in with the enviroment so well you have to rely on muzzle flash to find their locations (combat can get confusing), checkpoints are the most annoying thing yet - absolute pain having to deal with multiple ones, no lean makes cover focused combat a bit more of a chore than it should be (next to a game like stalker), and there are clear signs here and there that its a multiplat title (stuff like the monoculars super sensativity and off mouse control at times).

Its a great game so far though - and I have only just put my toes into the edges of the game, but so far thats what sticks out to me - faults wise.

That and the combat - although its very gritty (which is a really awesome style), its not as good as lets say, Crysis's.

The A.i. is superb though, even if its too accurate. Extremely beleivable squad tactics.

Oh and the audio is some of the best I have heard in a game. Sound is super important during combat.

impressions:

PROS

-well optimized

-gorgeous

-seamless transitional animations

-fire / tree / physics are great

-buddy system is great

CONS

-AI is dim at times

-shooting AI in the legs / arms has no impact on their ability to run like an olympic sprinter or shoot you like an olympic marksmen.

-the world is NOT open. i got to the top of a mountain in an attempt to approach an objective from high ground. i was rewarded with an invisible wall followed by a plunge beneath the map.

-nothing is persistent aside from buddy / certain npc kills. burn a field down, drive 1 minute down the road, come back and the fairies have put it back together and repainted the sheds

-buildings don't burn to the ground.

-diamond hunting is a bit weak

-collisions don't have the effect that GTAIV does, i.e. no impact physics. nail a boat at full speed and the gunner won't budge as the boat heaves up in the air

-weapon degrade is weak. 10 clips in an AK from fresh to dead - like they're made of plastic.

-world isn't as large as you'd think, 7x7km.

i'm still having fun, but it's definitely ripe with problems. it reminds me a lot of just cause, but with a fraction of the world size, no planes, no helis, less missions, less side-quests, less safe houses, no bond-like stunts, and a world that isn't truly open but more akin to a maze.

Goshdarnit, the PS3 version has a mandatory install-

http://www.ps3za.co.za/forum/showthread.php?t=13932

I was hoping the install would be optional or even non-existant. I'm choosing the PS3 version over the 360 because it has Trophies. It had better be, at the very least, slightly superior to the 360 version now I hear that there's an install. Nonetheless, my 320Gb hard drive says- "Bring it on, mother******".

ukillwegrill

Trophies? They're real?

Achivements > Trophies.

I disagree, I prefer Trophies at the moment because they're still a novelty. And I prefer how it's split into Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum compared to how it's done with Achievements.

Well this is a bummer. I called EB Games, Future Shop, and Best Buy and neither carry the PC version. They have the 360 and PS3 versions, but not the version which happens to be the lead platform for the game.

I'll try again tomorrow I guess.

I was one of those guys thinking this game would score nothing less that a 9.5. When i got it yesterday, i was completely disappointed from the starting intro by the lackluster graphics. The graphics remind me of PDZ, which isnt good. I understand that its a big world, but the graphics are even worse online... The controls arnt as fluid as Halo or COD, your controller only vibrates when you sprint (it doesnt if you shoot), AI is pretty stupid (i watched this driver back in and out of a spot for over 5 minutes), and it also takes forever to kill an enemy. I shot a guy 5 times in the head, just to watch him stare at me for a second then continue to shoot....

But the overall feeling that you are in Africa and can go anywhere killing anyone is very cool. The online is pretty bad IMO. Its just standard multiplayer, just something to give the game a little more replayability over the 50+ hour campaign. Dont buy it solely for its mp!

Overall, its a rental. If you enjoy it, buy it! But rent first!

I'm disappointed in the games quality personally. Take things like the ground, it looks like its missing bump mapping, and the vegetation pops out of no where. Looks like sprites sitting on a flat textured ground. The trees and leaves all fall through each other, as if they have no clipping whatsoever, and the wind makes the environment look like bending sprites. Not to mention the voice acting is by far the worst i've heard in years. Like a guy reading from a paper with no emotions at all!

Sadly, this game lacks too much to be entertaining for me to continue, i need to sell my copy asap. Crysis is 10 fold ahead of this game in terms of graphcis and physics, and although FC2 look sgreat over long distances, up close it looks terrible and the controls feel tacked together (pc version) and unresponsive.

i get no pop-ups on PC, dx10 client. i think any comparisons to sprites are ridiculous to be honest - this game is beautiful on max with dx10. and you're honestly complaining about clipping on leaves? seriously? do you understand how much processing power you'd need to calculate the impact and clips for every leaf?

i don't find the voice acting to be that bad, no worse that Crysis. and lol @ crysis being 10 fold better, get some perspective pal. crysis was a very beautiful game, but also full of flaws (i.e. the actual game & gameplay).

to me it seems like you're hungry for things that will happen in 10-15 years, best you find a cryogenic lab and freeze yourself until your l33t visuals and non-clipping leaves arrive.

I'm running DX10 max everythign on my rig, and i'm tellign you it looks like trash compared to crysis. I compare the voice acting to that of the 3d sonic the hedgehog games, its THAT bad. Yeah, crysis is full of flaws, to which far cry 2 repeats and makes them worse. By leave popping i dont mean pop in, as in not there, then there... i mean they are sprites that pop, they don't fit with the ground textures. green blades of grass popping out of a flat brown texture for the ground, at least most new games use grass textures under their 3d/sprite blades of grass.

the clipping of leaves and grass would take a lot of cpu power, but at least crysis ahs that better. Teh trees have 3d branches, but all the leaves are 2d flat sprites, and the wind as i mentioned, jsut flexes them, makign it look terrible. I have perspective on what i'm talkign about, too bad you just can't see past the garbage developers try to sell you on. They physics in crysis and leave clipping is already a reality, not something from 1-15 years from now. Perhaps you ened to get out of the cryo chamber you've put yourself into and get with the times. you're WAY behind... oh unless youre a plain consolite, who has never touched a new game for the PC except this trash...

To my understanding, this game's story has nothing to do with the plot of the first game, and is not even science fiction, right? No mutants, no scientists, just a war in a modern politically charged setting?

Depends. If you're in, say, the southwestern part of the area, where it's flat, empty desert, and can see far away and have the SVD Dragunov, they'll spend a few seconds wondering just why one of their comrade's just got a bullet to the head. Then, they'll usually run for cover or go into buildings (if there are any). I usually like to wound a man with my first shot, because one or two will come out of their cover to try and help him after around 30 seconds. Then, I pop them while they're carrying the still-screaming victim of my first shot.

The story has no sci-fi elements and the game holds nothing but the name from far cry.

Correct, this game has absolutely NOTHING to do with the first Far Cry. It might as well be a whole different franchise, even. And that's a good thing. Crytek's trademark game-ruining mutants/aliens and jungle-fetish are nowhere to be found, and there aren't any powers either.

is it me, or is the whole diamond searchin, and using that to buy stuff aspect kind of lame

i would love to rather have ALL those weapons/upgrades/equipment, to be thrown ALL over the far cry 2 world for u to discover and unlock, and once u find that weapon/upgrade/equipment, itll will always be at the ammo supply liek it is when u buy stuff...

if it was like that, the exploration aspect of this game would be tooons better and more motivationg than just looking for those damn diamond cases all of the place

agreed?

Correct, this game has absolutely NOTHING to do with the first Far Cry. It might as well be a whole different franchise, even. And that's a good thing. Crytek's trademark game-ruining mutants/aliens and jungle-fetish are nowhere to be found, and there aren't any powers either.

This game does have a jungle fetish though...

There's far more non-jungle terrain than Far Cry or Crysis.

Anybody having any control issues on the PC version? It's really strange...it's almost like my guy feels stiff. Teufelhuhn

Turn the sensitivity up?

if you use Nvidia then go the nvidia control panel.

then go to 'manage 3D settings'

under 'global settings' change 'maximum pre-rendered frames from default 3 to 1 or 0.

problem should be sorted :)

this is a common PC game bug, rendering latency to input or vice-versa - forcing the GPU to render the immediate instead of impending gives the mouse a break - and the game - if that makes any sense.

if that doesn't work a fix is due shortly as this isn't an uncommon complaint - and is something that has happened with other PC games lately :)

FYI I had this issue as well and the fix I suggested worked - it was the same fix used for oblivion ;) same issue.

The games sensitivity is low even at the highest and the widescreen is faked (cropped at top and bottom) so that doesn't help, plus there are some rendering issues with latency explained in the post above with nvidia cards.

they definitely do but for me its also due to the hold right click for iron sights. i like to hold the mouse really loose and with only my thumb and first three finger tips. i get more precision and speed like this and when you're forced tohold right click its just plain awkward. i honestly feel like id do better with a 360 controller.

hopefully a patch soon for toggle ironsights, prone and lean keys

That won't help much. The way the character handles in the PC variant seems to have been meant for the console one. As an owner of both, I think I am seeing an incredible amount of console influence in the PC version.

my impressions so far (360 version)

I'm only 4% into the game (the point where all the main missions are unlocked) but I can say that the game is fun as hell.

Graphics are very good for a 360 game, setting is awesome (reminds me of Blood Diamond) contolls are fine as well. Explosions + fire look amazing. I shot an enemy Jeep that was chasing me, the jeep explodes and sets some trees on fire. I watched the Trees burn for a few minutes before moving on with my mission lol. Sound is good and I love the healing animation lol. I heard during the tutorial that the "buddies" you find throughout the game can help you out during the mission. Could be interesting:)

I do have some minor complaints as well.

The game lacks story so far but like I said I'm not that far in the game, the characters and voice actors could've used better work imo and the enemy AI is not the best I've seen. Sometimes they act smart and try to flank you and work together, in other situations they're plain dumbasses. I was sitting in front of an enemy (only a few feet away) in some tall grass and he wouldn't do anything untill I moved..

the Pros defenitely outweigh the cons though. So far, so good:)

I just have a question, should I get the console or PC version. Highs and lows for both

Consoles:
- Guaranteed to play it well and at at least medium-lowish high graphics
- No computer related issues
- Possible more playing the game online
- Controller set up is something I see a positive
- I like playing games on the TV
- Achievements
- I can play with my friend

PC:

- I have a pretty decent gaming rig
Intel Dual Core E8400
4 gigs of ram
Nvidia 8600GT
I play the game medium-high just like I would on the console perhaps better. I run Crysis at high so I figure this game will run at high and better
- Map editor might be more useful
- Mods
- 10 dollars less

So which version should I get?

Well im doubtful that the 360 version will have more online players.

I strongly doubt that you wont be hanging onto the online for long though, unless the map editor and mods tickles your fancy.

The game should run better than Crysis too, and modefully modders will take to it, as there are plenty of tools there.
