[QUOTE="Ninja-Hippo"]I'm really torn between this, Dead Space and Fable 2. I'm heading to the store tomorrow to return Saints Row, and i still dont know what i'll be getting instead. It's too hard to decide. :PBioShockOwnz

Jump on the Fable 2 train before everyone stops playing it. You can play Dead Space anytime and not feel the burn because it's single player.

Honestly, Fable 2 is more of a single player experience. The co-op is nothing to write home about.

To Ninja-Hippo: I'd say to get both eventually, but Fable 2 first.

Well I"m personally looking forward to seeing how my friends' worlds turn out and vice versa, and since they're not really gamers, it's an even greater experience.

But okay then.

What are you teaching this man

Get Dead Space its awesome :D

Just ask yourself do you like Horror....or you know a role playing game...woopiejg4xchamp

Dead Space looks like an awesome game, but i'm looking for something a little more pick up and play. It looks to be more akin to Condemned, which you only really play through once. Far Cry looks like you can pick it up and wander around the world whenever you like.

The wondering isn't as great as it sounds :P and prepare for very long drives. I think fallout 3 may do a better job with the open world enviroment thing.

Yea it is interesting, but as vandal said all the people attacking you except those in cease fire towns kills the immersiveness. Out of no where people are just shooting at you for no reason :S

Yeah I was sort of anticipating that after people mentioned it. I honestly hope mods come out for the PC version to deal with that.

As I said before, I really think Ubi had a faction mechanic in place or at least planned out, and it was tossed out late in the game's development, for some reason or another. Everything just points to it. The way both sides attack you for no reason and the "Oh, and this is a secret mission, so our guys don't know you're working for us" bit that's used every goddamn time for UFLL/APR missions screams of being tacked on at the last minute.

Ouch. Damn these pre-holiday releases and all that jazz. I reckon they would get more in the long run if they rolled out a quality game with no punches pulled.

i DO own a gaming PC, but i built it a year before HL2 came out, so its only pretty much set up to max out HL2/UT2K4/Far Cry 1 type of games. That and PC gaming is dead, thats why i dont bother with it anymore.

One of the years best games imo, it deserves a 9 on PC and 8.5 on 360.

[QUOTE="Vandalvideo"]The game is getting really annoying and I'm not even 20% through act one. I hate how you're automatically kill on sight for practically everyone in Africa without any explanation. Even before you start doing missions you're KOS. Even AFTEr you're doing missions you're KOS. Random people ridinga roudn with jalopies will suddenly ram you and try to kill you for no reason other than you smelled bad or something. It makes traversing the world incredibly frustrating. It is a horrible game design mechanic and they should have factionalized the NPCs around the world.FrozenLiquid

Totally agree with you.

Really tears from the imerssiveness of the game too.

A major strength the STALKER games have over FC2....

Looks like I may opt for the PC version, and cross my fingers for mods.

Falling short of potential isn't good, especially for something like this.

Pretty much.

The flaws really dissapoint me, I was hoping this was going to a be a game that would stride ahead of the pack, I guess its a bit of Bioshock DejaVu.

A great game nonetheless, and yeah, hopefully mods will fix its... issues.

Still the most fun I have had with a shooter this year is still Warhead so far, hopefully FC2 will begin to pickup as I progress, it does have its moments of pure bliss though.

edit*

Oh a widescreen patch is out for anyone with the PC version - so you can get proper widescreen, rather than cropping!

http://tocaedit.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=119

I agree as well. Honestly open world games normally hold my attention. FC2 is not doing that and it's a big disappointment. Here's to hoping fallout 3 is good :)

Yeah fingers crossed for FO3, I hope its promising.

Hey dudes. I wrote the review on this one. If you've got any questions, feel free to ask.

As for those wondering the differences between console versions, there really are none. You could dissect screens with a magnifying glass if you wanted to, but what's the point? That time would be better spent installing a new graphics card on your PC so you can play the best version ;).

shaunmc

Word son!

A Radeon 4850, which is cheap as $175 can max this game out.

Back from playing it for a few hours.

Have to say the real magic in this game is approaching objectives.

cant get enough of the assasination missions - one i recently did:

Target was a VIP in a jeep 4WD in the middle of a convo; I scouted the area watched the convoys patrol route a few times, found a perfect vantage point amoung shrubs, with a fall back point - and it had high ground, right opposite a path where the convoy would drive straight for 50meters, before turning. This gave me a few second window to take a shot, hitting the VIP in the head from behind, through the cars rear windshield, just as the car traveled directly straight, in my line of sight. Also my distance away from the target meant I had ample time to fall back hide and slip away.

Of course everything went to clockwork - paitently waiting, lineup, shot, kill, fallback - gaurds scout the area then give up, I sneak away.

Sooooo satisfying.

This is where the game shines.

That and the way the a,i, communicates is the best I have seen in a fps.

I was fighting a bunch of guys in a shanty town, flushed a guy out of a hut with a grenade and hid - then I heard
"**** he got the new guy"
"what was his name again?"
"..... TJ.."

That really made me feel like a bit of a barstard as id only wandered into the shantytown in search of rough dimonds.

It has no point. No one even cares that much about this game. All they seem to care for is Resistance 2,Gears 2 and 360 vs PS3.

Dead Space looks like an awesome game, but i'm looking for something a little more pick up and play. It looks to be more akin to Condemned, which you only really play through once. Far Cry looks like you can pick it up and wander around the world whenever you like. Ninja-Hippo
Fable 2 is the ultimate pick up and play out of all three of those options. With Far Cry, you spend a good hour trying to get to your bloody objective and then the next ten minutes doing it. You spend a disproportionate ammoutn of time getting your car shot up, diving off into the savannah, and wasting some bullets to take care of Random NPC #1 and Random NPC #2. Multiply that ten million times fold and you have a very predictable mechanic that practically forces you onto the water in boats where jeeps, even though they try, cannot get to you. The AI in the game is horrible, and the respawn timers can really begin to grate on your nerves. You can take out a checkpoint, go do a mission, and ten minutes later when you're driving back from the mission the camp is fully respawned. Traversing the map is a practice in tedium, and the time you spend getting to your objective makes you want to donkey punch the developers for thinking up this frustratingly stupid superficial gameplay extender. Fable 2, on the other hand, is candy cane.

Sounds, in all honesty, just like STALKER.

Those are the same complaints. But this game actually looks fun online.

You actually like Fable 2? You of all people? How big is the world?

You can't honestly expect them to factionalize dogs and boars can you? In Far Cry, a game so devoted to factions, you would think they would factionalize stuff.

The world is relatively linear and relatively small in comparison to some of the more modern RPG games out there. That is alleviated by the fact that it actually evolves and grows as you play through the main storyline. Cities grow/shrink and major locations may dissapear because of some actions you perform. Its a nice tweak to the gameplay that gives the game a greater sense of scale than it really has.

[QUOTE="jetpower3"]Maybe I haven't been keeping up with the industry as a whole, but it is just me, or are games nowadays being released a lot faster and in less years than they have ever been before? I mean, it hasn't even been a year since Crysis. AtomicBaconBits

Crysis was made by Crytek, this was made by Ubisoft Montreal. Two different developers, which explains the short time period between their releases. ;)

Even so, does anyone else think that it might not have been a long enough time to justify releasing them so close together? I'd say games are released 2-4 years apart (or whatever the average is) for a reason, and that is to get players to soak up whatever they need to in the games they've played so far.

This isn't a sequel to Crysis.

Even if it's not a sequel, it's still in the same vein. I mean, Far Cry 1 was made by Crytek, and so was Crysis, and Far Cry 2, although not made by Cry Tek, is still a continuation of the series. So I'd say they're pretty interrelated.

The thing is there is no series really...

All it is, is a name and IP.

FC2 is nothing like FC1.

Which is good, as the second half of Far Cry suuuuuuucked.... I don't understand why people complain about the aliens at the end of Crysis, as they're nowhere near as bad as the Trigens.

Yeah the trigens in Far Cry were very annoying - especially because of their instant kill leaps.

Still it was interesting stalking through the jungle - after mercenaries, only to have trigens stalking you and them.

Other than that i totally agree the Aliens in Crysis are much better.... however the later half of Crysis detracts completely from what made the game great - thankfully the alien sections in warhead fix all of that.
