I just have a question, should I get the console or PC version. Highs and lows for both

Consoles:
- Guaranteed to play it well and at at least medium-lowish high graphics
- No computer related issues
- Possible more playing the game online
- Controller set up is something I see a positive
- I like playing games on the TV
- Achievements
- I can play with my friend

PC:

- I have a pretty decent gaming rig
Intel Dual Core E8400
4 gigs of ram
Nvidia 8600GT
I play the game medium-high just like I would on the console perhaps better. I run Crysis at high so I figure this game will run at high and better
- Map editor might be more useful
- Mods
- 10 dollars less

So which version should I get?

Toriko42

You should be able to run it fine, if you can run crysis on high you could run this on high no problem and thats still way better then the console versions which I would say are a mix between medium and high settings.

The map editors fun to play around with but its not gonna hold you for that long really and mods will make this game great specially if someone can add a ecosystem back into the game and fix the broken parts in the enemy a.i.

Your experience wont change between console and pc, its just how pretty you want the game.

Choose which you feel more comfortable with in my opinion and obviously from what you've said thats the console version ;)

[QUOTE="Teufelhuhn"]Anybody having any control issues on the PC version? It's really strange...it's almost like my guy feels stiff. skrat_01

*raises hand*

The controls on the PC version are a bit off.

Dammit Ubisoft.

Indeed.

Its something most Ubisoft multiplatform games have problems with. I expected it. Its not really mouse speed, its very slow mouse acceleration.

To explain it in more detail for the people playing it with controllers:

With a PC mouse, you dont move your mouse 1:1 with the pixels on the screen, instead its some ratio that determains how far your pointer goes when you move the mouse over a set distance. However, most mice have a 1:1 ratio with the speed you move your mouse and the speed that your pointer moves at,

With Ubisoft games, you move your mouse and the aim point starts moving slowly, then after a while accelerates to the speed you moved your mouse at. Its a microsecond thing, but its very obvious to people used to microsecond control. It really feels like the game is falling behind your aim. It gets frustrating after a while becuase the game always feels unresponsive to a PC gamer.

Most PC games either use the mouse settings you have in windows, or if using different settings, are much "snappier" in terms of the crosshair accelerating smoothly with the speed that you move your mouse at.

This is one thing Source and Unreal engine games are good for, excellent mouse "feel". Crysis is another good example of well done mouse controls.

Thanks to the three posts I got, I think I'm gonna go with the console because eye candy isn't as important to me as playing with my friends. Besides I can buy it again when its a bargain game for the PC mods.

I was one of those guys thinking this game would score nothing less that a 9.5. When i got it yesterday, i was completely disappointed from the starting intro by the lackluster graphics. The graphics remind me of PDZ, which isnt good. I understand that its a big world, but the graphics are even worse online... The controls arnt as fluid as Halo or COD, your controller only vibrates when you sprint (it doesnt if you shoot), AI is pretty stupid (i watched this driver back in and out of a spot for over 5 minutes), and it also takes forever to kill an enemy. I shot a guy 5 times in the head, just to watch him stare at me for a second then continue to shoot....

But the overall feeling that you are in Africa and can go anywhere killing anyone is very cool. The online is pretty bad IMO. Its just standard multiplayer, just something to give the game a little more replayability over the 50+ hour campaign. Dont buy it solely for its mp!

Overall, its a rental. If you enjoy it, buy it! But rent first!

krp008
Wow, you made me so relieved. I was seriously close to buying this game today because there weren't any for rent but I decided to go home and I'm still going to rent it tomorrow. :) Thank you. :)

I really like this game so far. I only put 2 hours into the game.

Just got done doing a mission where I ended up playing hide and seek with the enemies.

I really like the whole game, the missions are long and fairly difficult, but what I find annoying is driving halfway across the country to get to the objective. Also, the voice actors put emphasis on the wrong part of the sentence, and barely ever pause between sentences. The only one who spoke slightly correctly was The Jackal near the beginning.

I'm a bit irked at how fast weapons deteriorate, even when you buy the weapon manuals. Also, like other have said, the whole bit of driving four farking miles to get to my objective is annoying, and I wish the guards that I wasted at an outpost two minutes prior would NOT respawn so quickly.

Ahhh I see, great post.

Well I hope Ubisoft does somthing about fixing it.... and the widescreen issues.

Just saw a video of the intro to this game and, it looks very cool but, why do the characters talk so fast? Its like the voice actors were rushing through it to go and get lunch. Anyone whos got this game please tell me if you can set the voices to another language but keep the subtitles in english?Indie_Hitman
Yeah the introduction is pretty rushed. You never have much time to settle in - I found it very abrupt, especially next to a game like HL2, Bioshock, Crysis and COD4.

Sadly, that's how 98% of all the dialougue is....I have to read the subtitles intently, because otherwise I would have no idea what they are saying.I don't know why the characters talk so damn fast.

I think they recorded every sentence seperately. Like, the put the voice actors in front of the mike, and gave them dialogue scripts that focused on them saying individual sentences, and they just strang 'em up.

Yea probably, even The Jackal at the start sounds a bit 'strung together' with his sentances.

I really wish the intro wasent so rushed - straight after the car ride = a spanner thrown in the works. Would have been much cooler if there was a buildup..... still ubisoft seemed to be aiming for a heart of darkness inspired story, and having the main antagonist in your face, in the first 5 mins, might not have been the best idea.

Wish they did more of an Andrew Ryan or Dr Breen kind of thing.

i honestly have not had one gun jam let alone rust or break. i get a new one before each mission....its the best way to restock on everything and i typically buy stuff with the pre-payments so kill 2 birds with one stone since the armory and gunshop are next door

Glad I don't have this problem on PC. Bumped everything up to ultra high except I put shadows at high instead of very high and it runs like a dream. :D

I already asked this question though, why don't console gamers get a nice PC if they are so concerned with graphics? Obviously this guy is.

Well that still doesn't change the fact that he's a console gamer who wants the best graphics possible, so my question still stands.

Maybe I haven't been keeping up with the industry as a whole, but it is just me, or are games nowadays being released a lot faster and in less years than they have ever been before? I mean, it hasn't even been a year since Crysis.

Crysis was made by Crytek, this was made by Ubisoft Montreal. Two different developers, which explains the short time period between their releases. ;)

Even so, does anyone else think that it might not have been a long enough time to justify releasing them so close together? I'd say games are released 2-4 years apart (or whatever the average is) for a reason, and that is to get players to soak up whatever they need to in the games they've played so far.

The graphics are imo some of the best this gen, the game runs smooth most of the time but you'll see the fps drops if to much is going on (like in gta just not as bad). And if it's a bad port I have no idea about since I've only played the ps3 version, but it's not a bad games in anyway atleast. Awsome graphics, awsome gameplay, awsome story so far, even though it's not told very well, I guess you could say it's as good as you make it yourself, I've been running around finding these recorded tapes of the jackal which are pretty intresting to listen to imo. So it's a must buy imo.

I have the ps3 version...the graphics are pretty much good, the only thing I can complain about is that it has some framerate issues on very very rare occasions. Aside from that I'm enjoying the game very much...problems are barely noticable.

[QUOTE="DragonfireXZ95"][QUOTE="krp008"] i was completely disappointed from the starting intro by the lackluster graphics. The graphics remind me of PDZ, which isnt good. I understand that its a big world, but the graphics are even worse online...

Glad I don't have this problem on PC. Bumped everything up to ultra high except I put shadows at high instead of very high and it runs like a dream. :D

I already asked this question though, why don't console gamers get a nice PC if they are so concerned with graphics? Obviously this guy is.

the graphics are fine...

not bad at all. way better tha PDZ. I'm sure he didn't play the console version

I have this on PS3 and the graphics look incredible.

Nyah, I really wish I could actually see some fighting between the UFLL and APR. Why couldn't there be occasional firefights between them...unless they are engagin in a stand-around war. Ah well, means more work for me. :D

The game is getting really annoying and I'm not even 20% through act one. I hate how you're automatically kill on sight for practically everyone in Africa without any explanation. Even before you start doing missions you're KOS. Even AFTEr you're doing missions you're KOS. Random people ridinga roudn with jalopies will suddenly ram you and try to kill you for no reason other than you smelled bad or something. It makes traversing the world incredibly frustrating. It is a horrible game design mechanic and they should have factionalized the NPCs around the world.

I wish they have a teleport system you can use to get to safehouses and other places like in ES: Oblivion.

I'm kinda getting tired of driving back and forth to receive missions and to carry them out. I'm guessing the reason they had enemies scattered around the map was to make you feel like the whole area was a battle zone.

Here is a fun tip. Water travel is your friend. People are less likely to shoot you out or follow you if you're on the water. I found that out after getting royally angry at land travel.

Thanks for ironing out my post. He said:

"I was one of those guys thinking this game would score nothing less that a 9.5. I shot a guy 5 times in the head, just to watch him stare at me for a second then continue to shoot...."

Obvliously he's talking about the 360 version... Selective reading?

i DO own a gaming PC, but i built it a year before HL2 came out, so its only pretty much set up to max out HL2/UT2K4/Far Cry 1 type of games. That and PC gaming is dead, thats why i dont bother with it anymore.

Im playing the game on normal right now, and this game is TOO easy. All you have to do is ride around in a jeep w/gunner, and when you spot a guard post or an enemy jeep, simply jump on the gun and kill em' all! MP is getting pretty fun as well, especially playing custom built maps.

Yea normal was too easy for me as well. Luckily you can change the difficulty in option.

On higher difficulty staying on the gunner part of the jeep will get you killed.

Played the game a bit on my friends 360 today and it was fun for a while but then became pretty repetitve like Assassin's Creed with the missions.

[QUOTE="jetpower3"]Maybe I haven't been keeping up with the industry as a whole, but it is just me, or are games nowadays being released a lot faster and in less years than they have ever been before? I mean, it hasn't even been a year since Crysis. jetpower3

This isn't a sequel to Crysis.

Totally agree with you.

Really tears from the imerssiveness of the game too.

A major strength the STALKER games have over FC2....

Looks like I may opt for the PC version, and cross my fingers for mods.

Falling short of potential isn't good, especially for something like this.

I agree as well. Honestly open world games normally hold my attention. FC2 is not doing that and it's a big disappointment. Here's to hoping fallout 3 is good :)

Jump on the Fable 2 train before everyone stops playing it. You can play Dead Space anytime and not feel the burn because it's single player.

Honestly, Fable 2 is more of a single player experience. The co-op is nothing to write home about.

To Ninja-Hippo: I'd say to get both eventually, but Fable 2 first.
