Ok, this is how its going to go. Everyone will attempt to build a PC capable of playing games at the level you see on consoles or greater. Hopefully after we put to test some of the common misconceptions regarding the price of PC gaming, we will no longer see ridiculous statements like "But you need a $3000 computer to play it blah blah blah.."

Some sites you could use:
www.Newegg.com
www.TomsHardware.com
www.Geeks.com
www.tigerdirect.com

The PC I built..

Intel Pentium D(Dual Core) 2.66Ghz LGA 775: $75 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116001R
ECS Intel Motherboard: $45 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813135052
Crosshair ValueSelect 2Gb: $70 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146580
EXCELSTOR Jupiter HDD 80Gb: $37 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822210003
POWMAX computer case: $30 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811145047
SpecResearch MKS KB/M: $11 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823157015
EVGA 7950GT 512MB GDDR3: $243 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130066
DCT factory speakers: $8 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836131013
POWMAX 480W power supply: $12.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817163027
Windows XP home SP2B: $90 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116056

Spend $622 and you have a PC that will play PC's most technical game, Crysis in DX9 well(And some of the things I mentioned are not even needed to run Crysis at a level unreachable by consoles; Processor, RAM, 80Gb HDD etc.). If you wont better accessorys then you can allocate the price of the GPU to other places or spend a little bit more which makes the value of your PC increase aswell, I say this because I know some fanboys like to talk about how valuable the PS3 is with its included BD drive. Even at $600 the PC can do more than the PS3, opt for a PC BD drive and the price gets steeper but so does the value.

I mean sure, it may be more up front but lets get more technical since people like to throw monthly power usage and the price of XBL for a year into the mix.
Since PC games retail for $10 less than console games lets start there..

$622(The PC) ---- $600 (The PS3)
Game 1: $50/$672 Game 1: $60/$660
Game 2: $50/$722 Game 2: $60/$720
Game 3: $50/$772 Game 3: $60/$780
Game 4: $50/$822 Game 4: $60/$830

Might as well stop here since you can see where this is going PS3 actually cost more than a PC thats equal or greater in performance and it does so much more. X360 even would ultimately cost more if you where to keep going with the chart.

Its almost impossible for me to build a $3000 PC..I challenge the n00bs to try it and see how ridiculous their statements are.

I am a big pc gamer but a 7950gt and a pentium dual core D will not play crysis on high at a high resolution. Put a e6750 an a 8800gts 320mb and you have a rig that will outperform any console.

To play crysis on high you need a little over $1000. C2D, 2gb of ram, and a 8800GTS should do just fine.

It will at a level unreachable by consoles :) and a 7950GT is better than both the PS3 and X360s GPU performance-wise

In DX9 the devs were only using a 7800GTX and a superclocked single core proccessor to run it at max.

but i am just saying a pentium dual core D is rubbish and a waste of money, and the 8800gts 320mb is cheap as chips and fair more powerful than any console.

Also with a 8800 you get dx10 features too.

As a pc gamer, as much as i would love this to be the case, i don't think it will run maxed at a decent res on a 7800gtx in dx9. That is my opinion after haveing lost of experience with pc hardware, and i could be proved utterly wrong, but i just seriously doubt it.

just get something like that and overclock the hell out of it.

i don't know i am just saying in my opinion a 7 series card won't run the game absolutely maxed at a a good res. No doubt it will play fine with a few settings turned down ( some of which won't even be noticable) and at a slightly lower res, like 1280x960 or something.

we shallhave to wait and see though.

besides why should us pc gamers have to justify a pc being the same price as a console.

A pc is a far, far , far more useful bit of kit than a games console ever will be.

If you ever followed the instructions and put together a Lego kit as a kid, then you can build a computer. It's really not difficult at all. :\

Oh and I dont see any console fanboys replying in this thread?

Anyways, those that think they need $3000 for a good rig are those that are shopping from Alienware or any other prebuilt manufacturer. Those are WAY overpriced.

Honestly putting together a really tough lego set is harder that building a PC. Building a PC is so simple. Plus PC had a lot les parts then legos. If you just follow the directions you should be fine.

Is it a GDDR4 one because thats what i plan on getting in my new rig???Killfox

No dont, its not worth it. I would stick with a 512MB ver, they oc very well, and at the end of the year grab another like im going to do for crysis and bioshock.

Classic case of overkill.Vandalvideo

Not really, i want this rig to last long, and the PSU is to cover my other R600 at the end of the year, and my 3.33Ghz quad.

Ok, this is how its going to go. Everyone will attempt to build a PC capable of playing games at the level you see on consoles or greater. Hopefully after we put to test some of the common misconceptions regarding the price of PC gaming, we will no longer see ridiculous statements like "But you need a $3000 computer to play it blah blah blah.."

Some sites you could use:
www.Newegg.com
www.TomsHardware.com
www.Geeks.com
www.tigerdirect.com

The PC I built..

Intel Pentium D(Dual Core) 2.66Ghz LGA 775: $75 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116001R
ECS Intel Motherboard: $45 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813135052
Crosshair ValueSelect 2Gb: $70 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146580
EXCELSTOR Jupiter HDD 80Gb: $37 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822210003
POWMAX computer case: $30 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811145047
SpecResearch MKS KB/M: $11 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823157015
EVGA 7950GT 512MB GDDR3: $243 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130066
DCT factory speakers: $8 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836131013
POWMAX 480W power supply: $12.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817163027
Windows XP home SP2B: $90 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116056

Spend $622 and you have a PC that will play PC's most technical game, Crysis in DX9 well(And some of the things I mentioned are not even needed to run Crysis at a level unreachable by consoles; Processor, RAM, 80Gb HDD etc.). If you wont better accessorys then you can allocate the price of the GPU to other places or spend a little bit more which makes the value of your PC increase aswell, I say this because I know some fanboys like to talk about how valuable the PS3 is with its included BD drive. Even at $600 the PC can do more than the PS3, opt for a PC BD drive and the price gets steeper but so does the value.

I mean sure, it may be more up front but lets get more technical since people like to throw monthly power usage and the price of XBL for a year into the mix.
Since PC games retail for $10 less than console games lets start there..

$622(The PC) ---- $600 (The PS3)
Game 1: $50/$672 Game 1: $60/$660
Game 2: $50/$722 Game 2: $60/$720
Game 3: $50/$772 Game 3: $60/$780
Game 4: $50/$822 Game 4: $60/$830

Might as well stop here since you can see where this is going PS3 actually cost more than a PC thats equal or greater in performance and it does so much more. X360 even would ultimately cost more if you where to keep going with the chart.

Its almost impossible for me to build a $3000 PC..I challenge the n00bs to try it and see how ridiculous their statements are.

Pro_wrestler

i built a pc that was 3600, but only because i made it absolutley insane, but I have no problem with spending that kind of money on my pc. A PC is an investment, it does SO much more than play games. PCs CAN get expensive, but it's not like what other people think.

$622 huh? How long until I need to upgrade from that, six months? :roll:briguyb13

HAHAHAHA! Your still going to sustain the same level of performance or greater that is offered on consoles so fear not!

[QUOTE="Pro_wrestler"]

 You should never buy the stuff as soon as it comes out..unless you absolutely NEED!!!!!!!!!!! it.

dracolich666

I needed an upgrade, and i had money to spend, lol.

specs???

Well your set for years to come! All I really see you upgrading in 3 years is your GPU and all you would really have to do is buy another 2900 if your Mobo supports crossfire.

I paid $1600 for my rig (not including the monitor, mouse, and keyboard)--but then again, I built it myself. A rig similar to mine would cost more than $3000 from Dell or Alienware.

Yeah, some fanboys don't take in consideration that PCs are multitaskers and if all you want to do is game on it then its no more expensive than a console would be.

No really, you're buying overly expensive parts for a marginal improvement that won't make much of a high end difference down the road. Classic mistake.
