These press conferences are not intended to please YOU. They are intended to show the press and shareholders how these companies plan to make money. The real money comes from casual games. You saw it with Microsoft (Lips, 1 vs. 100), and Nintendo. And yes, Nintendo is going to make a boat load of money of the games they showed.

Then, tell me, why is the press there?
It's for buyers like Gamestop, Wall-mart and the like, and investors... why do you think they all mention sales numbers. It's not intended for actuall gamers.
I ask again, why is the gaming PRESS there then?
I'll answer that for you: So the gaming press can bring us, THE GAMERS, the conference via liveblogging and videostreaming that we pay for. Why the eff else do you think the press would be there? For the entertainment? LOL.
Why do they need to focus on your now? Keep in mind they showed off Wii Sports at the press confrence eveyone cryed foul, and then the next day they showed off SSBB. They know when and who to market to. The main press confrence is for everyone, more core stuff is shown during the actuall show, which is more for the industry then for the mass media. They know who they are markting too. You don't need to be pulled into a room and told that these are the big games. You'll find a video on teh internet whenever it's released. This is why Nintendo wins the know there audence, and the audence today is more mass media and non-gamers.

At the show floor, and there are hands-on previews coming in by the minute.Of WHAT?
The few 3rd party games we already new about (Mad World, etc.)? Animal Crossing, which we've known about forever?
Nintendo's efforts this E3 completely amounted to Wii Sports, Wii Music, etc. Right now they're making 10 times as much money as they were with the GC and yet they're making less games for their core audience then they were back then. Shouldn't be the reverse?!?!
Now you just don't want Nintendo to gain your trust. You are rejecting them before it's all over. E3 just started yesterday/today. There's still THREE more days.Lol, "gain my trust?" I don't trust or distrust any of these companies - they're just companies.... I only care about the games on these systems. Also, Nintendo's large main press conference is over. Big announcements are completely unlikely after this point.
It just makes no sense to me.
You said they're not abandoning their "core" audience. They're making by far the most money this gen, they're making 10 times as much than they made with the GC. Despite this they're releasing LESS games for the "core" audience than they were back then and more useless non-game garbage for the mass market. I think you're letting your love for the Nintendo brand name cloud your judgement. Where are the games for people like me?!?! Nintendo is making money hand over fist, where is the huge mountain of games for the core audience? The PS2 had it, every highest selling console until the release of the Wii has had it.

Nintendo has scewed the pooch with hardcores. They got my hopes up for a new Zelda title with the literal smoke and mirrors only for them to be crushed by that barefoot weirdo waving his arms around "Playing teh lol drumz!!".

The gaming press is there because they publish news reports for EVERYONE that can use a browers and a search button, not for us gamers. You've seen articles on GS before that seem rather pointless for gamers right? Why is that?
[QUOTE="insanejedi"]Didin't nintendo pretty much say that "We used these hardcore titles to get the nintendo fanboys into the wii, at the same time our REAL audiance is these casual people like old women and babies!" kinda admiting "we dont care about the people that kept us alive during the N64 and Gamecube days."subrosian
They have never officially made that claim in those exact words, but they certainly hint at it. If Nintendo wants to send apology letters to everyone who bought an N64 and GCN for turning their back, it would certainly be to their credit.
funny thing is nintendo cant win.they were criticised in the gc and 64 eras for not being popular, and 3rd parties didnt support their consoles because of it, and they were pretty much the only ones making good games. Then the wii comes out, and nintendo themselves have abondoned the hardcore gamer thanks to the wii's popularity.
Nintendo never said they will abandon their original fanbase, they just said they want to make it bigger. Willy105But that's part of the problem. So far, for the most part, they've ended up sacrificing the games of their loyal fanbase and other gamers in favor of games that aren't targeted towards them. Nintendo hasn't found a way to balance that, and until they do, there will continue to be negativity.

Yes. I HATED the E3 press conference today with a passion, and you know what, I still love my Wii, and I know that they are working on a new Zelda for Wii (Already confermed awhile ago) so I don't care if we see a video, I don't want to get hyped for a game coming out in over a year, like RE5 now and MGS4 before it, the wait kills me.Yes, next year Nintendos E3 will probably suck, but you know what.... the games that I want that will come out won't....

[QUOTE="HarlockJC"]Subrosian,
Your right it was not a good E3 for Nintendo. Is it enoght to give up on the Wii. For me no. Maybe I am a Nintendo fanboy, I just can not see a point in time where I could go without Nintendo first party games. I enjoy them too much. There is information to look forward to that we got from E3.
First the Wii got 1 to 1 motion controller getting us even closer to VR gaming
Second we there be getting voice chat on the Wii
Third we found out the local 6 player could be done
Fourth Reggie stated after E3 that the Mario team and the Zelda team are working on games
Could E3 have been better and yes Nintendo have given us more information. You know the games are being made just have to wait to find out what they are.
Oroin
I wish they would have shown madworld, or at least shown a trailer or screenshot of the new zelda, but one thing confuses me with it's news.... Wii getting voice chat-- people in sw complained that wii had no voice chat of anykind.. and suddenly they get it and guess what sw people are complaining again. like (xbox live or psn or whatever already had voice chat..) N. fixed that prob and people still complained..:? what will make you people happy.. (Manticore not a sheep).
true. but we see that with everything in SW. news being twisted around.

Because, as you've told us, you don't care about hardcore gaming, graphics, sound, etc. You've called yourself a sheep, and if I remember correctly, are a young gamer. You're not a veteran gamer, you don't view games as art, and you weren't alive during the NES era.
I mean none of that as an insult, but you have no way of possibly understanding where I, and other core gamers, are feeling, or where we're coming from. Of course you don't feel stabbed - you're Nintendo's favorite new audience.
Weird. I always thought as myself as hardcore. In fact, I am typing this on the Wii browser, like I do most of the time in here. I really like games, and play them as much as I can. I love games with great graphics, with beautiful animation and a detailed world to explore. Having really good music sets the mood for the whole experience. I think gaming is a better expression of art than movies are, because EVERYTHING in a game came from your mind, not real life like in live action movies. Believe it or not, you can still be a lover of games and still not think Nintendo's E3 conference was not the end of the world. And it's pathetic that I have to explain myself like this, it speaks badly of the gaming community as a whole. Gaming should be for everyone, and I am happy than I can finally play video games with my friend and family members that never liked games, even though I couldn't care less about their games. As a gamer, I want to play with other people. I completely understand how you feel about the conference, but you just need to realize that this is over-reacting. Nintendo never said they will abandon their original fanbase, they just said they want to make it bigger. STOP HATING GAMES....then you own the wrong system.
I don't hate games Willy, I love quality games. The key word here is quality - when someone, even Nintendo, cashes out by selling us shoddy, low-quality (compared to modern graphics, sound, and control standards) crap, and fails to deliver the innovation they've promised for three years, I'm going to call them on it.
And no, you're not a true hardcore gamer. You can call yourself whatever you'd like, but when you're typing on the Wii browser to defend Nintendo against legitimate complaints* by trying to imply someone who spends thousands of hours and thousands of dollars on gaming each year is "hates games", I think what you are become obvious.

I've been doing that for two decades, and it has been made easier by the STEAM, LIVE, and PSN thanks to services providing a universal online identity for me to play with my friends anywhere in the world. It's sad, I'm a major Nintendo fan, and I only had Nintendo during my whole life, I still only have Nintendo consoles, but what is happening with the Wii is something that excels what I can take for a company, I upgraded my PC (even though I never really liked playing games on the PC, but now I think it's cool), and I'm buying GameCube games that I didn't have the opportunity to play before. I was really hoping to see some F-Zero Wii, F-Zero DS (still, 3 Fzero for GBA and none for the DS), Zelda Wii, Wave Race, Pikmin, Kid Icarus, Donkey Kong (Good old platformer, not bongo crap....to rival Banjo-Kazooie 3) or any other new franchise, I don't know.Junior_AIN

Next gen...gamers won't forget what Nintendo did with our trust and support. We won't forget. Wii won't forget.
When Nintendo starts throwing around the word innovation...we'll remember. When Nintendo tells us the future is now and that gameplay > graphics...we'll remember how that ended the last time they said it.
When Nintendo asks us to give them a chance to change the industry...we'll remember.

Exactly, gaming has expanding to the point where some would argue that its almost a sport, or its more of a life st*le (&*$!ing error message.) than a hobby. Those casual gamers may be there for you this gen, but what happens when those casuals lose intrest in gameing or become hardcore gamers? Then where you will be Nintendo? You would have alienated your hardcore audience, but you created a new that wants hardcore games that you don't have and maybe even forgot how to make.

So are we all just going to ignore this funny reply? lol. Good stuff.
I think the real question is, who do we blame? Nintendo or ESA (E3). It's either Nintendo really has abandoned the hardcore or E3 isn't just really worthy of Nintendo's hardcore announcements.
You never know, we may see a last-minute SSBB-style announcement, but that's rather optimistic.
[QUOTE="Ghost_Dub"]Who the hell died and made you gamer god? You and jerks like blackmanbond act like you run the damn forum, you don't. All you idiots hating on Nintendo and claiming you're oh-so-much better than those poor casuals that don't like twenty hit combos or jumping, ducking, shooting, rinse and repeat can go to hell because I don't care what you self-righteous haters think, Nintendo don't give a damn what you think, millions of people don't give a rat's ass what you think.

Wii will reign this gen and theirs nothing anyone can do about it.
Dude chill, me and you ranted like crazy in the E3 thread but im already over it. I know that I could be mad and Nintendo, I could say that im done, like some of you guys are, but then they could announce a new Zelda and 5 more hardcore titles in the coming months, and I would forgive them and im sure most of the poster mad today would too..... but then I would feel dumb enjoying the new Zelda which you know is going to come out (confermed along time ago) knowing that a year ago, I said how much hate I have for Nintendo.Too bad foryou, and who are you anyways ? Blackbond is now "Black Man Bond"? I don't know why, but that comes across as though it were intended to be racist.
As far as what I do specifically in shaping the forum, well, you don't seem to know me but that's fine, I'd be more than happy to get into details elsewhere.
Honestly the debate is already won for me here - when you have to insult me, rather than contest my ideas, it shows the validity of the points I've made.

Actually if you read the OP, my complaint is that Nintendo spends a great deal of time claiming to be innovative, and claiming they're going to show us their "innovation", and then proceeds to show us sales figures and more of the same. It'd be like if Bungie announced an "exciting new IP" and then showed us... Halo 4. I mean, really?
If Nintendo wants to badmouth traditional developers, they had better deliver something completely new and exciting themselves - Wii Music, a concept title from the Wii's launch, doesn't cut it as the sole unique title.

So are we all just going to ignore this funny reply? lol. Good stuff.
That was epic, I can't believe I missed it.

Maybe he's just new. Ever thought about that? Anyways, Subrosian is a guy that can make what he thinks should happen...happen. At times he seems like he rules this board. But we still love him. Now you know![QUOTE="-Skeletor-"]Are you people not interested in the new Star Wars Clone wars game?? What about Mario sluggers? The conduit? spore? ToS? Fatal Frame...
it's time 3rd party pick up the slack for once..
the fact they announced a new mario and zelda game for wii in the works is HUGE news... AFter 1.5 years of kick ass titles they have given us more than any other console manufacturer has.

Of those I'm interested in TOS, Star Wars and Mario Sluggers (go ahead laugh I want another mario sport)
Really?
Mario Soccer on the Wii was kind of awful. I played it on the GCN, and to its credit it was fun little game where you could try and get better to compete with your friends and such. It was far from being a replacement for traditional soccer titles, but there was some skill involved.
Mario Soccer on the Wii was just... stripped of any skill. The goalie "mini-game" annoyed me to no end, because you just "maxed it" (could do it) and it was done - but now you have to play this weird game with the power shots, rather than making sure you really move your guys to block them. It becomes, well, ridiculous - add in that the changes in the way the game plays, and it went from being "Nintendo foosball" to well... something else entirely.

I agree, I thought you were going all "Good-Bye Nintendo"I agree though, my Wii isnt going anywhere, im mad at Nintendos E3 showing... but when has it ever been good (This should be like... "Good bye-nintendo" part IV or something..... oh well, ill have to wait two more years for that.
I mean I know Zelda Wii is in the works as ive said, so that alone makes me happy, go ahead and let them appeal to the casuals as long as I get my Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Pikman 3, AC, ect and new IPs as we usually do from Nintendo.

I'm a little suprised you quoted me.. but Mario Sluggers is baseball your talking about soccer. I didn't like soccer on the wii either. But the baseball on wii looks good. though swinging my arm to bat is my only concern
you have fun selling your Wii while ill be playing Spore, Wario Land, The Conduit, Madworld, Fatal Frame 4, Deadly Creatures. Wait I forgot those all dont count anymore since after the conferenceair_wolf_cubedAssuming anyone's ever heard of half of those games, it would be nice if Nintendo actually mentioned those games for even 5 seconds, but then again, Nintendo has been horrible this gen with promoting even their biggest games.

I'm not one of these "I'm gonna sell my console!" fakeboys. I worked too hard to get them and all I need is for that one great game to hit and feel like an idiot cause the console is gone.
Nintendo's conference was highly disappointing yes, but I think it's silly to give up on them completely. Personally, I'm going to be optimistic and stick with them until the end of this generation. Once all of the games are out, then we will be able to judge Nintendo more fairly.
However, I will say this: Nintendo, please be kinder to third parties. Well, third parties that are not creating casual titles.
you have fun selling your Wii while ill be playing Spore, Wario Land, The Conduit, Madworld, Fatal Frame 4, Deadly Creatures. Wait I forgot those all dont count anymore since after the conferenceair_wolf_cubed
Well, they still have some hardcore games coming. But after releasing all of their big franchises right off the bat, it feels like a bait and switch. I've never seen Nintendo have so few first party games to look forward to. There has always been a bunch that I just had to have.
Sure, there's probably a new Zelda coming. But didn't Miyamoto himself say that TP will be the last of its kind, that the next Zelda will be radically different? Who's to say the next Zelda won't be heavily altered to make it more accessible? I'd say it's definitely possible after watching that conference.
Face it - Nintendo has found a greener pasture, and they're leaving the gamers who have stuck with them through the hard times behind.
