You know what? It's true. I said it in the earlier thread, and I'm echoing it now. I wanted Nintendo to prove me wrong, I gave them a shot, and they blew it.

Even if they come out with some announcement tomorrow, it won't change the fundamental issue, something that's been building for a few years now, and only becomes truer as time passes. Nintendo does not care about the core gamer. They paid them lip service through the Wii's first year out of obligation, and now that the console is selling like crazy, they no longer have to. It's very simple, and it's a good reason for a core gamer to take issue withi Nintendo.

Reggie's comments to G4 were very revealing. He didn't say, "Oh, wait until tomorrow, and you'll be happy," the sort of thing he's been saying for ages as questions about the Wii's lineup have mounted leading up to E3. He said, "What, you're not happy with Animal Crossing and GTA DS?" Nintendo thought that was enough, these two titles that are guaranteed successes, that have a wide and diverse audiences. They thought that meant that they were showing support for the core gamer. They're not.

The fact of the matter is, Nintendo has absolutely nothing in terms of games this holiday season, and for the announced future. And it doesn't matter to them, because they have Wii Sports 2, and they have Wii Music, and they'll sell well. Good for them, and good for their bottom line. But it's bad for us, because there's nothing else to supplement it.

The oddest thing now is that the games that I'm most excited for on the Wii are third party, because smaller devs are the only ones making games of that kind for the Wii, and Nintendo isn't helping them at all. They don't care, and they're laughing all the way to the bank.

Epic Failure

No ****ing excuses Nintendo. None.

This makes two straight years (two ****ing years!) I've come away from their conference severely disappointed, disillusioned and regretting my Wii purchase.

I've officially lost faith in Nintendo. It's clear that they no longer care for the hardcore gamer. Well fine Nintendo, you want my grandmother, cousin, and friend who doesn't play games?

You can have them.

You want to beat your chest about how the Wii and DS are dominating their respective markets and proclaim from the rooftops that they aren't fads?

Go right ahead.

You want to continually crap on the hardcore gamer by focusing on nothing but casual titles while your console is flooded by third party shovelware?

Fine.

Just don't expect me to support this. I'm not selling my Wii but to be honest, I can't see myself buying anymore Wii games any time in the forseeable future.

Yes, I know this sounds equal parts fanboyish and extreme but right now, my Wii is a $250 paperweight while my PS3 and Xbox 360 receive my gaming love. It's no one's fault but Nintendo's. But hell, I'm sure they couldn't care less how I feel. No matter what I say, they'll just laugh all the way to the bank.

On a platform where Carnival Games outsells Metroid Prime 3, this was bound to happen. People forget Nintendo is a business, and they would prefer to make money over pleasing their old fans, who are now a minority. Why give the old fans a traditional Nintendo experience when you can grow your business with Wii Music?

Nintendo said it themselves, there is a "paradigm shift" in the industry. Away from us, and over to them.

Indeed, its hard not to get a little bit upset. They've been running around in circles now, with "hey we have hardcore games, what are you talking about!?", while showing nothing.

The worst part is definatly that since they make all this money, they don't have to care, but when push comes to shove, gamers will speak out at least in the next-generation if they try to pull this crap again.

Last year E3 was horrible for Nintendo, and you know what game was game of the year? A Nintendo game.

This year alot of people, myself included, hated E3. I wanted Zelda, I didn't get it, but you know what, I don't care because I know its in the works.

Nintendo fails at E3.... always.... well almost always......

People are saying that because stuff that we know is coming out doesn't get "announced" at E3 is bad for Nintendo.

Zelda and stuff is coming out, on E3 or not.....

I posted this in another thread, but thought I'd share in case people missed it.

Since so many "hardcore" Ninty fans are worried about the state of Wii right now, I asked Miyamoto why we were seeing so many casual games at this year's E3.

Miyamoto said I was dead on with Nintendo's philosophy of Nintendo and E3. I asked if the company backed away from hardcore games specifically and on purpose, showing only casual titles since they had the world's ear, and would leave Fatal Frame and other hardcore games to focus "away from E3" from now on.

He confirmed that's the case.

So yeah, this was a pretty depressing E3 for hardcore Nintendo fans, but Nintendo is doing exactly what it wants to right now, which is spend 100% of its time on casual games. E3 is Nintendo's casual show now more than ever. The hardcore games - as long as they are truly out there - will come away from E3 from now on. At least that's Miyamoto's take on the event.Bozon

http://boards.ign.com/nintendo_wii_general_board/b8263/167314671/p1/?46

If this is true, like I said before, E3 wasn't the gaming behemoth it was used to be.

I agree with some of the stuff you said sub. They should really stop talking about innovation when there are really not the innovative, and their press con did suck, but isn't that because E3 has became more of a casual thing? and we do know that more core titles are coming out. Nintendo just doesn't hype them for some odd reason. *Looks at NHM, MP3, Zack and Wiki, and BW2 Wii.* and there is also 3 more days of E3. Not to mention big this holiday season would be kinda stupid. I'm not going to completely shut myself off from a gaming company. I mean as a veteran gamer shouldn't you try to play all the good to awesome good you can? I know I do, and it's pretty silly to think Nintendo won't have anything truely awesome..... while eventually :P

Besides all the Press Con really wasn't that great anyway. IMO I think Sony's was the best even tho they had more trailers than gameplay examples (like MS). While hopefully something is shown on e3's floor that will really cheer me up. :D or a big update or something.......

Didn't Reggie say for the last couple of months that they are "HUGE SURPRISES FOR THE CORE GAMER AT E3"???

Wanderer5

Well E3 is not over yet, so maybe there will be a couple of surprises in the next couple of days.

Is this your first e3 or something? :|

And why would you say that?

Because if the big three don't announce it on stage, than it isn't there.

[quote="Bozon]

At least that's Miyamoto's take on the event.Zhengi

http://boards.ign.com/nintendo_wii_general_board/b8263/167314671/p1/?46

I kinda thought that was the case. I mean E3 was downsized, but damn Nintendo better better give me some awesome game news soon, and Capcom where the hell is my Monster Hunter 3 (adding voice to that would be cool), and other devs where my (insert wii game here(there is a list floating somewhere ¬_¬)) As long as I have some great games before the year is out I'm good cause believe it or not I still play my Wii and PC more than my 360, but I play my PS2 the most :P and DS somewhere between them.

However I still look forward to beating down my friend in Wii Sports Resort. Especailly in some sword action.

Nintendo's conference was highly disappointing yes, but I think it's silly to give up on them completely. Personally, I'm going to be optimistic and stick with them until the end of this generation. Once all of the games are out, then we will be able to judge Nintendo more fairly.

However, I will say this: Nintendo, please be kinder to third parties. Well, third parties that are not creating casual titles.

TreyoftheDead
I agree 100% With this statement. All of you who are overeacting over ONE press conference need to chill. You guys are acting like nintendos the only dev trying to get the casual market.

Polite? Do you even read his post our do you see a thread with his name and say "good post, sub"

Hes not polite, look at people arguing with him, the way he brushes them off or just restartes his point like its fact, he has a massive ego and thinks he runs SW.....

tman93

Massive ego? Maybe so.

Run System Wars? No. There were hundreds (bordering on thousands) of posts of support for my complaints after the last E3, just in this forum, but System Wars added its own point of view. What we have are people telling their own stories - they're not saying my words over-and-over - they're saying their own concerns, and their own dissapointments. To be honest, most of my posts run long, and I imagine many people skim and just add their own impressions and continue the debate. Some of those posts will have insights, observations, and ideas that I didn't think of - which is a wonderful thing, it's why I enjoy posting here.

What you seem to be asking for is for me to *change my mind* based on something I've thought a great deal about based on a few dissenting remarks. I consider them, I do, I like new ideas, I like to be challenged - I think that's healthy, but I'm a gamer first, not a Nintendo shareholder - and when they behave at a conference in this way, it strikes me that they're the ones behaving with a giant ego, with very little consideration for what their audience wants.

Running System Wars? Are you saying that because so many people agree? That so many of our complaints are the same is simply because a large number of people share in a grief over what Nintendo had done and is doing. To pretend there's some grand conspiracy here is ridiculous, and frankly an insult to the other posters in this thread. People say their points-of-view - so those who agree with you are okay, and those who disagree have "massive egos" and are "trying to run System Wars"? :P I mean really?

My latest fight with regard to System Wars has been to try and petition the mods to allow more off-topic content, and allow news, screenshots, and game footage to be posted as topics. I know, I know, I'm a terrible guy :P

Also there are still games for us they have been listed to death by now, also voice chat and AC:city folk(this is what we call it now) was a pretty good announcement. I just hope they don't screw it up like they did brawl online.

This one doesn't seem as strong as the last one. That one still gets bumped from time to time, and people still 100% agree eventhough some of the points became invalid over time. It would be hard to beat that thread, if you even considered trying.

July 15, 2008 - No big surprise. At E3 2008, Nintendo confirmed (very vaguely) that the Mario and Zelda teams had reassembled, but offered no further details. But when we sat down with Shigeru Miyamoto this week, he elaborated on situation, absolutely confirmed that a new Wii Zelda is underway, and suggested that it will see some fundamental changes.

"The Zelda team in particular always works on Zelda titles. The core members of the Zelda team have for a very long time now been focused on Zelda games, and continue to focus on Zelda games, so they are hard at work and working away," Miyamoto said. "And then, of course, we have the DS Zelda team as well, so even there we're having some switching of people in and out where the DS team is mixing in with the Wii team and working on the Wii version."

At GDC 2007, Eiji Aonuma gave a presentation on The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. At that time, he showed a brief snippet of an experimentation the Zelda team conducted -- it was Twilight Princess running in the first-person view. We asked Miyamoto if such a fundamental change could await players of Wii's next Zelda adventure.

"I don't necessarily think it will change that drastically, but I think that Zelda is a franchise that does need some big new unique ideas," he said. "And so the team right now is very focused on trying to find those ideas."

I know what you mean. I've been suspended for trying to make a joke, and because I forgot to put in bold letter saying THIS IS A JOKE or a smiley face it went over the mods head lol. It was so obvious to it was ridiculous. I've been suspended because I didn't notice a stupid stickey, even though the site was all glitchy and wouldn't load correctly so I put up a thread quickly before blanking out on me, but no they don't care.

At any given time you can get suspended for almost nothing and others can say outrageous things and never get a warning. It's basically a crap shoot, and if you're friends with a mod or two you've got it made.

Well Sub, I groaned when I saw the topic title, thinking this was going to be another overdramatic one-billion-page argument firestarter that went nowhere. But I must say, you made the OP nicely to the point this time. It's obviously meant to be controversial (Nintendo can't say ANYTHING about innovation because of a bad E3? Ever? Harsh. :?), and I obviously disagree, but this is an improved sequel - if a bit casualized for the SW audience. ;)

I'm too tired right now, but I'll see what I can add to this later.

Yeah their conference was terrible, but Nintendo know what they're doing.

You know what's going to be making mainstream headlines tomorrow? Not Resistence 2, not FFXIII going multiplat, but Wii Music, Wii Sports 2 and Wii Motion Plus. Nintendo knows that these games will get them the kind of publicity they want.

From a business perspective, they had the best conference by miles. Just accept that they're focusing on a different market now.

Despite that they're still making just as many games to cater to their fans as they ever have and the quality is still there in spades.
We know Kid Icarus, Zelda, Disaster and Pikmin are in development, and yes it is dissapointing that they didn't make an appearance, but that doesn't mean Nintendo have binned them.

Hahahah clever. I like that "casualized for the SW audience". It is incredibly hypocritical for Nintendo to lambast traditional developers, and then turn around and showcase sequel city (while curiously ignoring unique new IPs being developed by third parties).

Remember reader - this is about Nintendo and their focus, which at E3 for the past two years has been clear. If they wanted to make things clear to the hardcore that they were loved - putting out games that have been demanded for some time, such as Zelda Wii, with a hard-stamped date (let's not have another Twilight Princess "delay it for four years so we can cash out" fest here Nintendo - my little brother was in tears over the number of times you did that - he paid *up front* for it - wanna pay him back with interest?)

You think Nintendo secretly has all your franchises working? Well, let's just see what they say....

"Well, of course I worked on both 1080 and Wave Rave, so on the one hand I think it's very difficult for me to say, but I think that form in which we present the snowboarding game [in Wii Fit] and the power cruising game in Wii Sports Resort is something that's going to appeal to a much broader audience."

No 1080 or Wave Race! They rather appeal to casuals!

"There really isn't anything to talk about right now so I don't know how to reply, said Miyamoto. "I am friends with Mr. Itoi [Earthbound creator] and meet with him several times a year. If we got together and decided we wanted to make something, it wouldn't take too long for him to start working on something."

No plans to do anything with Earthbound!

Then again, Reggie did say Animal Crossing was hardcore and should be enough for us Nintendo fans...so I have faith in the company!

Subrosian do you actually belive this is all the "killer app" game nintendo has in stock for this year ?
