The car collides head on with a few blocks of concrete and it receives nothing more than a few tiny dents? that's terrible.

Maybe just in this demo, or just this circuit? I wonder, that would be so sad if they downgraded like that. After looking at today's gameplay video..I noticed the car position…
Pos 5 out of 10?
Are there only 10 cars on track in GT5?

I remember both sides picking at each other for insanely trivial reasoning.I remember Gt fanboys picking on forza for bumpers falling off.
hehe.

Weird, because it isn't an overtake challenge either (at least not one where they would need to limit the field to 10 cars, seeing as how the player starts in 5th).After looking at today's gameplay video..I noticed the car position…

It's not BS.
It's completely true.
The relationship between automakers and and PD is different from other developers. Why do you think only select cars have damage?
PD is still working though issues with licensing.
Sony does not entirely back Polyphony like Microsoft backs Turn10. Money is always an issue, as is exclusive deals. However, one that most people forget are negotiations & contracts.
Remember, Polyphony doesn't work like Turn10, so when Kazunori speaks with manufacturers, chances are that they don't like what they're hearing and deny Kaz. a license.
If there is one thing that always bothered me about Gran Turismo it was that it seemed like Kazunori had too much control.
Companies like Turn 10 don't have a "Dictator" type figure running the show. You see, when you have one person making too many decisions, there is bound to be a little bias, whereas with Turn 10 it is more like "well Porsche have a rich racing pedigree and are very popular, let's have them in the game".
PBSnipes
Why would would PD's relationship with manufacturers be any different than Turn 10's? If anything, one would expect PD to be on better terms with the industry, considering they've been around longer, their games reach a significantly larger audience (ie better marketing opprotunities) and Yamauchi himself has even worked with Nissan. If a no-name upstart like Turn 10 could work through all these potential licensing issues back in 2003-2005, I fail to see why PD would have any trouble whatsoever.
And how could money possibly be an issue? PD has sold nearly 4 million copies of a goddamn glorified demo, and GT5 -- the biggest PS3 exclusive, bar none -- is as close to a guaranteed 7+ million seller as you can get. You could sink over a $100 million into the game and still turn a tidy profit, nevermind the increase in PS3 sales that will accompany GT5's release. If GT5 is being held back due to budget constraints, PD and SCEI have wayyyy bigger problems than licensing issues.
As for Yamauchi speaking with manufacturers, there isn't anything to discuss. All Yamauchi has to do is say "we want the same deal as Turn 10, here's a blank cheque."
The fact of the matter is, GT5's problem has nothing to do with licensing or funding or anything of that nature. The problem is Yamauchi & Co. have their heads so far up their asses they haven't realized the rest of the industry has already lapped them (awful pun).
I think it was Mitsubishi and/or Nissan that actually paid to have their cars in GT3 or 4 (can't remember which). I think it really speaks poorly for Porsche and Lambo that all they value is money and not a well represented name. Their respective contracts with EA and MS show this.
So are Lambo's and Porsche becoming the new "tuner" cars with giant wings and stupid decals? Is that with the true spirit of Lambo and Porsche? I hope not.
If I were a rich person who owned say a Lamborghini Gallardo and I saw my son playing a racing game with that same car except it had a neon green paint job, a giant wing, offensive decals and huge rims I would feel insulted. I think it is these contracts with games like NFS that really take away from the image of prestigious brands like Porsche and Lambo. Ferrari being in GT shows that they belong to a higher standard. Lets hope that other car companies realize this.

But it's a rolling start and an average length track, so there isn't any reason why you couldn't throw 16 cars out there.
And the fact its a demo shouldn't matter. They had 16 car races working in Prologue, after all.

They could've rushed to get this demo ready, and 10 car field was easier, but as you said does not make sense as GT5p had 16 car fields. My best guess is that it is either a ten car circuit, or a player setup race with a selected 10 car field. I would be flabbergasted (real word?) if GT only has 10 car fields now, that really makes no sense to me at least.I think it was Mitsubishi and/or Nissan that actually paid to have their cars in GT3 or 4 (can't remember which). You didn't address anything in my post. All you did was attempt to build a strawman against Lamborghini and Porsche, despite the fact Lamborghini is apparently in GT5 (they're certainly in GT: PSP), and the fact Porsche is not only licensed by Turn 10 (who as I said earlier don't have anywhere near the clout or financial support PD does) but will slap their logo on anything they can touch, not to mention the fact Porsche seems to be quite supportive of the tuner community (you may have heard of a little brand called RUF).
The only possible explanation for PD's licensing "issues" is pure arrogance on PD's part.

You guys really should stop, whatever your thinking next don't type it. You know as well as anyone in the planet, that there can be different amounts of cars on tracks. It does always have to be the full amount, heck it can even be only one car. Your really not grasping the concept that this was a demo of one level at gamescon, not the full package. Ok so is there 16 or 10 cars? Where is the damage indication shown. Also with a hood up like that shouldn't it be affected by wind or the inertia of slowing down and speeding up? Or is the damage just strictly cosmetic?

Not to mention Gemballa, which has been providing aftermarket parts for Porsche vehicles years. Porsche has an excellent relationship with Gemballa and RUF alike.

Do you see what's going on? This is not PD's fault.
I think I know the story about Ferrari... maybe it goes with the rest of the cars we haven't seen in GT.
1999
Kazunori: "Hey Ferrari! Do you want to see your car in a Playstation game we're making?"
Ferrari: "Are you crazy? This is a serious business. Give me lots of money or get out of here."
2009
Ferrari: "Hey Kaz! Can you please have some of our cars in your game. We'll give you your own brand new Ferrari and a free tour of our factory. You can even bring your camera and release the material. Pleeeaaaseee!"
Kazunori: "I'll think about it...."

Isn't gt3 the higher scoring game out of either franchise?Forza always outscores GT why is this even being debated? Nothing will change this time around.

Let me fix that up with a more likely scenario...
GT1: We can't afford Ferrari, Porsche, Lambo, etc
GT2-GT4: We don't need Ferrari, Porsche, Lambo, our fans will buy demos of our games.
GT5: Our competition is serious and has lots of manufacturers and features. We probably better do the same.

Did you know Ferrari spends about 500 million a year in F1…Do you think they freaking care about GT..or FM……
It's comedy you would even suggest the most prestigious brand in automotive history would "beg" a video game developer to represent their brand…Then though the arrogance of Kazunori say: I will think about it............… Are you for real?
This is not about "money"… anyways… That is not the point at ALL…
Tell me why Honda or Toyota does not allow damage to their production cars in GT ......but they do inFM..It all boils down to the inability for Poly to close thedeal ..Clearly it can be done…
The whole "This is not PD's fault" is comical at best…..Who's fault is it then if they are not incompetent to close the deal?
I'm pretty sure car manufacturers are past all that 'dont want to see their cars damaged' stuff. Its not even just forza that has full damage on 400 cars. Rfactor, gtr, race07, nfs games and others have had damage for years. Gtr and race have had rollover for years. I think nfs shift will have interior damage. There are tons of cars across tons of games that have full damage and rollover. I think there is one sole reason why gt5 limis it to 170 cars:
Its just too much work. Kaz and poly pride themselves on making the most detailed car models, and accurately representing damage on all of them wouldn't allow them to release the game at any time that's relevant. Not to mention they had to build a new physics engine just to support the damage. Poly kind of shot themselves in the foot with this, and having sooo many intricately detailed cars in Gt5. 170 cars is a large amount and that's great but the game won't be as good as it could have been if they all supported damage.
At this point GT5 sort of feels more like a car enthusiaist game (with 1000 cars) than an actual racing game.. A driving simulator but not quite a racing simulator. There's nothing wrong with that, but they definitely have a different focus than some other more hardcore sims

You know how Burnout Revenge you can have a max car limit of 6? You know how you can limit that number to 2? Just because it shows less cars doesn't mean they lowered the limit. There were PLENTY of races that only had 10-12 cars on Prologue.
I honestly don't mind if a lot of the cars don't have cosmetic damage, but what I want is internal damage. If someone slams into a fall at +30 mph then their car should not be functional. I don't care to see fiberglass fly everywhere although that is a pretty good plus. I just want a fair driving game and internal damage would do great.

The reason GTR, rFactor and other PC racing sims have had damage for years before console sims is because their car rosters are populated by heavily modified GT and Touring car versions of production cars and not the actual production cars themselves. Automakers don't have the same control or restrictions over what developers do to those cars because those are massively different from the production cars we see on the road.

It is a very good thing that the damage effects the gameplay, hopefully that will fix GT's biggest flaw.[QUOTE="Shhadow_Viper"][QUOTE="bleehum"] Yeah, I saw that, too.Delsage
