i dont want dumbed down rail shooter Half life starting side character.

I want proper Half life. PC FPS starting Dr Freeman a genius scientist and where i can control my own character with KB/M. and continue story where it was left in cliffhanger.

thats what I and we fans wanted. and we are getting dumbed down rail shooter for expensive shiny googles.

treat this as VR spinoff and make official game as traditional game. everyone happy.

because making games on VR solely is anti consumer. even worse than releasing exclusively on Epic stores.

some complain about bethesda account to play Doom that is most pro consumer policy compare to forcing customer to buy useless device that cost same amount of gaming PC.

It is a spinoff from the main plot line, that said I think if this is successful there won't be a traditional HL game again.

The only people complaining is you... So I find it ironic that you can complain about complaining since that is 3/4 of how you occupy your time here.

A VR headset like the Rift S is $400... A flagship mobile phone sells millions every two years which have been priced at $400+ for the last decade.

This is why to me you are essentially a console gamer disguised as a PC gamer, hating on things over the fact that you can't afford it. Not giving something a fair shake and judging a game prior to even playing it and then bashing reviews with high ratings for the game and calling people who's opinion on the game is different to your's wrong... All because you can't afford or justify the purchase.

Nvidia just dropped game ready drivers if you wanna quickly download that shit before release.

If there wont be traditional Half life games in future. then series is dead. its like valve donot care about this series and all they care about thier VR set sell or not.

if this is not successful. then we wont have any Half life game, traditional or not. we are in loose loose situation.

I can afford VR if i want to or collect money but i rather spent money on PC hardware than buy a useless VR set.

beside i have not played console since long time.

all im saying that WHY it is so difficult for valve to make both version. VR and official version. its not hard. but it take effort and they are lazy.

I have been waiting for Half life 2 since decades. at first all i got was overpriced DLC lable as episodes, then nothing, then silent, then some VR spinoff after 2 decades.

where the hell is Half life 3 in source engine 2???

Nah there have been several people on these forums that have pointed out they dont really want Half Life being a VR game now. Ghost is just persistent lol

I have gave my reasoning on it several times, dont feel like explaining myself anymore, but its not going to be the same as HL1 and HL2, VR is a completely different platform.

Playing this game right now

I almost feel bad holding this against the game, but now is a rough time to play something that immerses you into an intense, 10-hour long experience in a postapocalyptic world filled with monsters and lots of other things that want to kill you.

Compared to Half-Life 2, Alyx leans more into the survival-horror genre. Enemies hit harder, ammo is scarce, and health is limited. It’s not as fast or action-based as Half-Life 2. Now, this makes a lot of sense for the VR transition. Atmosphere is a big part of VR, and leaning more into horror elements is one way to create a more visceral experience.

But it can become mentally exhausting. I would play in sessions between one or two hours long, and I’d be straight up fatigued after them. Now, I suppose that means that the game is doing its job. But considering how stressed out I already am about being in shelter-in-place and practicing social distancing, I have to say that I’m envious of my friends who were spending all of their time catching virtual fish and paying off digital home loans.

@warmblur: Everyone wants HL3, sorry but Valve wants more tech approach and VR was the answer they been waiting for.

@Pedro: That's why user scores mean jack... With most people out of nostalgia reviewing old games and giving them perfect scores or games they hate with low scores and even games they haven't played.

To be fair most critic reviews mean shit as well, a lot of them seem even less informed than the people not being paid to review games.

best approach is Half life 3 as official game next and Half life adrian will be VR game.

this is spinoff/prequel, if major Half life game will be just VR and not KB/M then it would be slap in the face of fan. a series that revolutionize PC FPS genre, KB/M control shift towards VR its like take any big franchise and convert it into mobile game. thats not going to work unless its spinoff.

dumbing down for VR will be worse than dumbing down for consoles.

It got a 9! Great job, Valve! This is a huge moment for VR.

Never doubted for a moment, from the first trailer. It just looked like a game made with immense effort and thought, something Valve used to be good at in the old days. Glad to know they still got it.

Nice that it's getting good review, but I'm still not getting it. I'm not into VR and I really do hope that Valve makes a non VR version of the game. But still it's nice that both Doom and Half-Life are back again.
