How many multi-plats were held back this generation because of 360's DVD format?

the first unreal destroys any gears of war single player.

heeeeeeeeeweeee

the first unreal's single player, was probably more equivalent to a multiplayer map populated by bots than any of the actual single player games we know and love.

Half life was really the first game that made single player anything beyond a shootout with terrible AI bots in a random world.

No it was gameplay narrative while gears of war is story.

and david jaffe just said games suck now because they arent focused on gameplay instead more a story.

i dont know what a gameplay narrative is... other than, beat 40 practically identical repetitive levels, then hear 10 seconds of story.

and im sure david jaffe would say that... the developer of games in which cars fight each other... if i made a game with such a simplistic stupid concept, i would agree.

Planescape: torment is one of my favorite games of all time, and im pretty sure any other fans would agree... that cars fighting each other, isnt as good as planescape torment.

having to go talk to someone in a game like half life 1 really slows down the pace of the gameplay

heeeeeeeeeweeee

no it gives a purpose.... but half life also had puzzles and such, and the soldier AI completely outclassed quake and UT on every level at the time.

early quake and unreal games had pretty low standards because there was no online gameplay. Online gameplay replaced the single player... which is why both franchises eventually rid themselves of single player... because both their single player campaigns offered nothing over the multiplayer experience except worse AI.

the multiplayer makes the single player unnecessary? did you just agree with me?

and yes they had the best gameplay... but that gameplay was best appreciated online.

thats just nostalgia talking, Q3 was heads and tails better... as it was actually designed with online as the main component.

No you deathmatch on levels from the single player and those levels are more complex and less noobish and more fun to play on than quake 3's maps which were made multiplayer only.

by noobs do you mean people that aim better, rather than knowing every hidden nook and cranny for the powerups?

if you cant beat people when they know the powerup locations, that doesnt make them noobs...

the maps are made so u cant get stuck on stuff and die as easily moving around the level they're for people who suck at movement skill.

gotta say i have been reading what Heeeeeeee has been saying the last couple of pages and i agree, Epic and ID do not make gmaes on consoles as good as the games they made on the Pc, niether gears or Rage hold a tourch to unreal, doom or quake on the Pc.

Now let's compare quake 2's first level outer base which can be used for online multiplayer to quake 3's first level arena gate.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBjMUksxQyM

quake 2's first level is alot more complex? no doubt about it.

nah quake and unreal single player is better less linear than rage and gears of war.

heeeeeeeeeweeee

unreal's single player is less linear? lol UT99 was linear as they come you had 4 leauges you picked one and you went through that till you dominated then once you had dominated all those the 5th opened up and you fought till you fought the champion in straight 1 vs 1 deathmatch.

unreal 1=single player

ut=spin off franchise multiplayer only

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Op-tys_98Ek

unreal 1 single player 1998.

That owns **** gears of war

lol no one considers unreal at all. 1.yes it was linear you had set path you took trust me I played it to death. 2.unreal 2 sucked balls. there is a reason Epic dropped the single player unreal line and stuck with the multiplayer.

They have the same RAM I thought? Just PS3 is split I think. Anyway who cares, it's not like this affects anything, no one knows anything about these systems. We just play the games. Almost all multiplats look the same, so I don't think RAM matters.

ShadowMoses900

actually the 360 has 32MB more RAM

moreover, what Delta was saying is that the PS3's OS uses 50MB of ram while the 360's uses 32MB

as for differences, it probably helps for multiplats, giving it that extra ever so slight edge

Well like I said, I don't know nor care. It's not like this stuff affects game developers. And the slight edge isn't even slight, it's more like invisible.

If there anything that affects game dev, it´s ram, buddy! Actually 32MB is exactly what PS2 had in total. We can say 360 is more powerful than PS3 by a PS2 margin

I'm guessing not many because last gen the Xbox/PC market was much smaller than the PS3/PC market is this generation and there were plenty of games last gen that were only on PC/Xbox due to hardware limitations on the PS2. There is no reason developers could not have done the same this gen with PS3/PC if they believed the 360 hardware was a significant enough limitation. However there are very few games that are only on PS3/PC... in fact I can't think of any.

Well it appears you misinterpreted what I said, because I was never talking about the quality of graphics, I was talking about the quantity of different textures, and that is indeed something that is correlated to game size.

arkephonic

Not necessarily, and furthermore, it's pointless to sit there and think because X game has a larger data backing than game Y; it has a larger selection of HQ textures. Again, stop dabbling in this.

Explain why developers make sacrifices to fit onto 1 DVD.

arkephonic

I don't need to, go back and read the post

What post?

Why does Dan Houser express frustrations with DVD when he can just use 2 or 3?

Why does From Software lower the quality of their game through intense compression to fit it onto 1 DVD? Why don't they just use 2 DVDs?

I love/hate this tactic of asking a lot of questions and always putting the other person on the defensive.

LOL david jaffe even said gears of war sucks nuts.

epicgames hired a story writer for gears of war 2 lmao!!!!!!!!!

what kind of developer needs to hire a writer? if u want a story write a book or make a movie like jaffe said story's dont belong in games.

unreal 1# has much better gameplay in the single player than any gears of war game.

Sad part twisted metal 1995 isnt focused on story but the little bit of story it has is better than any gears of war ****

like if u beat the game with roadkill he wished he could go back to vietnam he was war vet so he could save his friend that got killed or some **** and he ends up getting killed lmao.

each character had their own little ending.

Don't all games with stories have story writers? I mean who would write the story if there was no writer?
