Maybe we'll all come to respect his opinion because I know how many of us wish someone had the balls to give GTA4 a 7.5 because most people can agree it was a step back for the franchise.

oh he has balls and i appreciate that. but i disagree with his control issues in skyward sword, which led to the 7.5
now that ive played the game i did not experience ANY of the control issues he had, in fact i love them so much i would hate to go back to playing a zelda game with buttons.
if tom still thinks the game desevres that score then fine by me, my opinion is that it deserved more and thats all that matters to me now.
I'd disagree with GTA4 scoring a 7.5. I like Tom though, it was good of him to come to SW and talk about his Zelda review. Good reviewer.Ravensmash
To be honest I think he was valid. That being said, I'd like to see Gamespot be more consistent with its scores. I wish the site graded harder than it has been but people will just get angry if Tom is the only one doing it. Wasn't happy with that inFamous 2 score, but I'd get over it if some other games weren't scoring 8.5s-9.5s left and right.
I might respect his opinion if he gives Halo 4 a 7.5.

Tom doesnt need to be defended for having an opinion. The fanboys who actually took it personal are the ones who need "assistance" :Pnavyguy21

lmao, i can see it now, fans raging just like they did for TP and more recently skyward sword
This place is like some demented Halo sanctuary were fanboys never have to worry about thier beloved franchise being treated like other lowly series. Hell, even what should have been Halo 3 DLC, ODST got an inflated score here, so don't ever expect a main Halo game to get reviewed without fanboy goggles. The game felt like an original Xbox title for God sake![QUOTE="almossbb"]

EDIT: Damn I guess Gamespot auto-deletes parts of chain quotes. I highlighted where I said main Halo games...MAIN. Halo Wars clearly was not that.
Let's all admit that there is no way that SS should have been given a 10. In that case there are a lot of reviews out there that are much worse than Tom's, since they are willfully ignorant of the game's many flaws. Seriously like Tom ponted out in that pod cast a lot of those reviews have blatently false information that was regurgitated from Reggie's E3 speech.

H: CEA is an old-assed game with a GRAPHICS update, re-release it and it's still grrrrreeaaaat? It's based ona game that nearly got a ten... Updated graphics with the ability to switch between classic and new graphics on the fly, remastered audio, re orchestrated soundtrack by the skywalker ranch, 3d support, surround sounds, kinect support, skulls and terminal have been added to the campaign. And the game comes with several new maps for Halo Reach. As far as remasters go Halo goes much farther than most. I don't see how it's an unfair score...[QUOTE="Slashless"][QUOTE="Bigboi500"]Yeah, try reading ALL of my post next time...and H:CEA scored a very generous 8.0 here.

Why?He's clearly a Halo fanboy for saying ODST was "superb" when it's not. :| You're opinion =//=fact Regardless, hoping a game will get a bad score just because you dislike it is pathetic. Especially when the game isn't even out yet.[QUOTE="vashkey"][QUOTE="Bigboi500"]

i don't think "most people" agree with that at all, over 20 million in sales more or less proves that. also, forum dwellers are not really the best source to go by for that cute little generalization (which i'm positive said generalization spawned from)...

I love the Halo series but lets be honest, critics and fanboys love to harp about a sequel not innovating or just outright not being better than its prequel,
But after playing Halo: Anniversary and then playing Halo 3, then playing Halo 3: ODST and then playing Halo: Reach I realized just how similar those games REALLY are.
-Walk into a narrow or open area shoot grunts and elites
-Walk into another narrow or open area and shoot more grunts and elites
-Drive a warthog
-The End
There really is no gameplay variety to speak of, Halo: Reach notwithstanding (fantastic game, single player and multiplayer) and I doubt Halo 4 is going to innovate on anything nor is it going to be better than Halo: Reach. Halo: Anniversary proved that 343 Industries are simply not Bungie, corridors all had a similar look, glitches that caused the game to freeze, awkward checkpoints. Bungie clearly knew what they were doing when they made Halo: Reach. And by Tom McShea's logic it will deserve a 7.5

a score is arbitrary. Just read the reviews. All those 10 scores are frauds and faulty journalism at its ugliest. At best they were unprofessionally swept up by the hype and worst money changed hands. If Tom's review was off it wasn't off by that much. The game has deep faults around it's horrible padding and hand holding issues. Why?Tom McShea sucks

Halo has no gameplay variety? Theres a slew of weapons and vehicles to use and the armor abilities further diversifies the combat. If Halo's gameplay lacks variety then practically the whole genre is lacking in variety by comparison. Halo is Halo, the series has made innovation, but it's not really in need of a reinvention, although I'd argue Reach almost did. And I don't think Anniversary is a good game to judge 343 when you consider that the campaign portion of the game was developed by Saber and the multiplayer portion was from Certain Affinity. He scored SS lower than I would, but that doesn't bother. The content of his review does.
If I would have been foolish enough to trust his review then I would have missed out on what is shaping up to be one of my favorites of this gen all due to false information. An opinion is one thing. Making up issues to justify his dislike for the game is another.
I'm not one of these guys that makes credibility calls on entire sites, or magazines regarding reviews, but Tom is one GS reviewer that I will not soon trust. A bit of professionalism goes a long way and when there are multitudes of user reviews that are not only more accurate, but also more well written, it makes me wonder how this guy maintains his job.
