Got damn.
Ugh, people wanting DD next gen need to GTFO, like I feel like downloading 40 gigs of content
gamer-adam1
largest DD are MMOS which are above 20gb, so shouldnt be a problem, a FPS shouldnt be 40gbs, I dont know why they just dont compress the audio if thats the reason, i doubt most gamers wont know the difference or will even be able to take advantage of it
that's one thing we need to know before we make conclusions is WHY it's 40GB.Probably much more varied environments and assets than KZ2, good stuff.tomarlyn
Negative. That is not the primary reason.
They already announced that there is going to be something like 90 mins of cutscenes. All those scenes will include dialogue. All that dialogue is going to be uncompressed audio. All that uncompressed audio is going to take huge space.
[QUOTE="lbjkurono23"][QUOTE="charizard1605"] True enough :P But the point is then, there's no real benefit to Blu Ray and all the extra space it affords, is there? I mean, sure, it makes the developers' work slightly easier by allowing them to NOT compress all that data, but what we need to consider is, do we need those 50 gigs that the format affords us? Wouldn't, say, 20-25 gigs do the job just as well if it's all just about compression? Not trying to start a flame war here :Pcharizard16057.1 uncompressed audio, but I don't know if it thats the case with KZ3(it was with MGS4) Does that really take 20 GB+?
It takes even more than 20gb. Uncompressed video and audio is massive. It has to be compressed to fit even with Blu-ray discs.

Wow ok I wasn't aware of that, there's a feature length movie in there? Still the usual suspect is assets.Does that really take 20 GB+?[QUOTE="charizard1605"][QUOTE="lbjkurono23"] 7.1 uncompressed audio, but I don't know if it thats the case with KZ3(it was with MGS4)Kahuna_1

Really? I did not know that. Maybe we will actually need massive storage formats next generation, then. As for now, it stands as a good way to deter piracy (probably why it's so huge). I think we can expect every PS3 game to have these kinds of mammoth and unmanageable sizes from now on.[QUOTE="Raymundo_Manuel"][QUOTE="FIipMode"]

K, but when devs aren't using blu-ray they don't have to use as much space for their games. On the PS3 you've got a bunch of repeated content to make up for a slow disk drive.
The best looking games on the PC don't even come close to 40gb downloads.
Proof of the repeated content? Or are you a PS3 developer?http://kotaku.com/229496/oblivions-double-data-blu+ray-kludgeHere it says that oblivion for the PS3 needed to duplicate data in order for it to work properly,
so this means what? uncompressed audio, cgi cutscenes, textures and 14 different languages included.

it's actually 70 minutes of cutscenes.[QUOTE="hexashadow13"]lol, have fun pirating this. xDHakkai007
You know pirates could just compress it themselves then release it to others.
how hard is that?[QUOTE="Hakkai007"]

how hard is that? They compress everything. It's not hard to see for yourself.WOW :o imagine that on the Xbox... a lot of discsxxFallenAngel
Compression. KZ is like MGS4 where the cutscenes are in-engine, unlike FFXIII which is prerecorded CGI. Therefore, the difference is going to be mostly audio. Since the 360 does not output 7.1 there is no reason not to heavy compress the audio. Indeed, unless you have 7.1 in your sound system it won't make a difference. Bottomline is that almost certainly it would fit on 1 DVD, with 2 being the maximum needed for the 360.
Odd considering the likely hood that KZ3 has 41 gigs of actual unique content is virtually nil. Probably just didn't compress it to deter piracy and reused a lot of data to make it easier to load off the slow blu-ray drives. Heck Crysis is what 9 gigs and it destroys console graphics. Also probably a lot of uncompressed audio too.
[QUOTE="spookykid143"]how hard is that? They compress everything. It's not hard to see for yourself.Off topic, but you should change your sig the 3DS is 250 in the US.[QUOTE="Hakkai007"]

thats what i was thinking. repeating data and dummy data to improve loading times without an install. the bit about needing no install for it to run kinda gave that away.More than likely at least half of that is data recycling to improve load times. I see no other real reason it would take this much space.

Hakkai007
Not hard at all.
You can go from 10 gigs to 3 gigs with the right compression techniques on an already compressed PC game.
So I say it would be easy to get that down to 10-15 gigs.
Ok.Dont people realize that its not the power of the bluray? Its the lack of power behind the PS3.All that space usedis for pre rendered cutscenes and video used. Only about 10 Gb is most likley used for texture and graphics storage.
Its all for pre rendered cutscenes and video for the game.Wonder what all that useless data is gonna be.
ChubbyGuy40
[QUOTE="tagyhag"]It is if they'r trying to improve load times :P Oh, and KZ3 can be played 3D, too. That probably has something to do with it.I'm sure it's ALL definitely needed. :P
lbjkurono23
so it looks worse than crysis, shattered horizons, mirrors edge, and a bunch of other pc games, however takes up almost 3 to four times more space. talk about efficiency, especially for a game that is going to be a corridor shooter

Just for comparison, Killzone 2 was only 12gb. In fact, the actual game data was only 6.9gb, the rest was video and audio.
