i doubt it.Is there any reason to have it at 41.5, mostlikely not, sony probley told them make the game with some crazy number, so we can have something to brag about.

Why are people pulling reasons from thier nether regions? 'uncompressed this and repaeted that'
Are people seriously DCing over space?
Zaibach
Because that would be the most logical reason for it being 40 gigs? That's what everybody is doing in this thread, speculating.

umm...it's because it's true. FF XIII is 40 GB for the ps3 and less than 16 GB on the 360 (two discs) simply because of higher quality audio and cgi video at 1080p rather than 720p.
MGS 4 is 32GB in size and that's mostly due to the lengthy cutscenes and uncompressed audio.
just because a game has a large file size doesn't mean it's going to be a long game and just because other's point out that little fact doesn't make it dc. it just means that devs have to make room for cutscene, higher quality audio, and because of the ps3's slower blu-ray drive, redundant data.

Slower Blu-ray drive?
live how the un-installed PS3 version of Castlevania LOS totally blows away the 360 installed version at load times. Same thing for FFXIII
For all the people saying MGS4 has uncompressed audio it does not. Its only has 5.1 DD. Games that have LPCM 7.1 sound as far as I know are a few sony exclusive like Uncharted 2 where you can actually go to the options and change the sound track. Go read up on any forum if you dont believe me, and people will tell you its just Dolby 5.1. Whats takes up most of the space on KZ3 will probably be the cut scenes.
[QUOTE="WilliamRLBaker"]Lossless sound is great. More games with uncompressed sound - the better. Just because not everyone can afford something doesn't mean that they shouldn't include the option for it. Not everyone has the PS Move or 3D TVs, but the game supports PS Move and 3D as well. This game seems to have everything, so I'm getting it day 1.Lossless sound that 99% of your consumer base cannot take advantage of check.

I second that:) And for those who say that uncompressed audio doesn't make a difference, you obviously haven't heard it. Becasue if you did, you would know then and there that it DOES sound better and not just a little better.
FYI to all, you can get a used HDMI receiver on ebay for close to $100 these days. Then you can hear what you've been missing
Too lazy to compress? Can't afford to pay the employees to do any optimization after KZ2's less than stellar sales?
[QUOTE="skrat_01"]Useless file formatting padding to reach such ridiculous file sizes. Obviously. mztazmz
Oh yes "Obviously"! of course!
OK, seriously ask yourself if you really believe what you just typed there. I hope for your sake, the answer is no.
Naturally. Be it uncompressed video or audio formats compiled into the game, rather than applying basic compression, to genuine bloating; it's still padding the disk. It is completely unrealistic to believe KZ3 will have that many assets, let alone those of such high polygon values to justify the size, unless they have crammed it full of hours of of 1080p native video; which could be encoded in a size saving format. They have the space, to be exploited, which in all fairness is fair enough. It doesn't make the game better or make Blu Ray a more viable option for developers. The only real justification? Bloat your installation to curb jailbreak pirates from installing it.the only reason why it is so big is because the ps3's bluray drive is so slow they have to repeat data on the disc so the seek times won't interrupt gameplay.
ps3 is weak
Cant compare console graphics to PC... Of course it looks worse than PC games. PC has 4GB RAM + while consoles have 512. Try to run a game as good looking as KIllzone 3 on a PC with 512 RAM.so it looks worse than crysis, shattered horizons, mirrors edge, and a bunch of other pc games, however takes up almost 3 to four times more space. talk about efficiency, especially for a game that is going to be a corridor shooter
ironman388
ahhh...i see what they did thar
they didn't compress ANY of the files so the file would be HUGE and would make piracy alot less worth it
KZ3 could've very easily had been about 16gb or so with compression
this does make sense in a way to me....if this IS for piracy reasons then look for alot more PS3 games to uncompressed as well
I guess the question we have to ask is:
Is that 41GB of honest data? By that I mean:
Now, if Sony was able to produce 41GB of honest nonredundant data, then I'll be suitably impressed (since the budget for that much honest data would normally be ridiculous, especially these days). But there's the fact you can only fit so much of it (512MB) on the PS3 at any one time, and since KZ3 will likely have a multiplayer component, some parts of the game will have to fit in the constraints (you can't dynamically load a map in a multiplayer setting--otherwise, you can't track everyone). So my money is on the number being fudged in some way: most likely with redundant data.
They may have simply loaded the disk with useless data to deter piracy of the game.gamebreakerz__Wouldn't the pirates then simply filter it out or fill it with more-compressible data?
They can't leave everything uncompressed. For one thing, there's the pokey transfer rate of the BluRay drive (much slower than hard drives). Then there's the RAM limitations of the PS3. You'll only be able to fit so much at a time, unless they're taking the (IMO) ridiculous step of doing on-the-fly compression (rather than the norm, decompression) to make the disc assets fit the RAM.ahhh...i see what they did thar

All developers should just beef up their game sizes with uncompressed audio and other things, who is going to download 40GB of data, have a Blu Ray burner and wait that long for it to burn?
Asim90
Pirates. And they DON'T need a blu-ray burner to pirate PS3 games.

The vast majority of pirates aren't going to download 40GB of data, although you're correct about not needing a Blu Ray burner.

i'm sure quite a few people will as they have nothing better to do.....but i think it would put a dent in most pirates out there as SOME do have lives (i think)
hell, as long as their is no performance issues or mandatory installs then i'm all for games being uncompressed i suppose

Lets see, 12 hour download vs £40 ... im pretty sure all current pirates that dont have a bandwith limit will indeed do it,Yay for no compression!
What is going to be really funny is when this game gets a 20+ GB mandatory install that takes half an hour.
