"The article speaks mostly about the common issues like FP16-HDR. I couldn't find an explicit statement that is equal to what you're asking for, so no, they did not say that. They did say that the TGS 2005 hardware was different from what the finalized PS3 was, and that's why they had to build their graphics engine aiming at 2005 quality, which wasn't possible to achieve fully."
Just look at the posts :P anyway MGS4 isn't quite the best looking game out there you know, many people think uncharted looks better, also KZ2 looks better than MGS4 and has more stuff going on :D

The PS3 back then was only Dual 6800Ultras or GT's in SLI I think the PS3s current 7800XX series can match that.
I never really noticed does MGS 4 have this?

The ps3 runs on the RSX which is based on the 7800GTX, it's a little better than the 7800.
Anyway who cares about these things? we all know the ps3 can do much better than MGS4
We'll just have to see Uncharted2 and GOWIII :D Hopefully they'll show something about uncharted2 at TGS :P

Hey man are you referring to the Zone ??? or to the illumination ??
if it is the zone yes it exists in MGS4, its just after entering the Mansion, where theres a cutscene of a bulldozer crushing the outside walls of the mansion, before this tunnel in the past area theres a house where you find a Silenced sniper Rifle if i dont remember wrong its the SVS sniper rifle.
If you meant the light effect or something (i cannot understand Japanese) i dont remember MGS4 having some kind of option about the light :P
see ya :)

I'm actually amazed that that shiny box can do such graphic, and only in it's 2nd year what will we see next? :D
It's so funny. People are still sore from MGS4 being better (score wise) than anything on their consoles. Normal people can accept this, or even embrace it, and play the game.
but some people. *shakes head* just can't accept it. Row, Row Fight The Powah!

Yeah, thats what i think when cows bring up Halo 3 yet its almost a year old. Quite flattering.

'Normal' people wouldn't be hailing a game the second coming based on one review score.
Because PS3 is weaker than what was promised to Kojima.

the article is in japanese, but here's http://forum.beyond3d.com/showthread.php?t=49828 people discussing that article,so cows dont come here and say the game looks better than the 2005 trailer because it doesn't..it was downgraded and it came from the developers mouth.MojondeVACA
Uh, if it was DOWNGRADED, then what do you think it would have got at GS if it was released in it's original form, a "12"?
The "10" it got is okay, I guess.
The best exclusive game this generation was a downgraded one? Lord.
It was an amazing game. What PRAISE you are showering on KOJIMA, to be able to create such an experience on such limited hardware, MoVACA, lol.
I'm actually amazed that that shiny box can do such graphic, and only in it's 2nd year what will we see next? :D
Al3x_n90
Don't expect much more than those, since any improvements will be much more minor.

Huh idk...since KZ2 looks IMO better than MGS4 (i'm talking about graphics in gameplay not cutscenes) I think we'll see bigger improvements until probably GOWIII or uncharted 2 :P

MGS4 is not that great looking of a game though. It looks good, but its not mind-blowingly good.
All I am saying is that major improvements are likely done, on both 360 and PS3 and now its down to understanding the platforms and optimization to eek out what little power is left.

Of course the design was scaled with MGS4 to the PS3s hardware.
Im sure it happened to Halo 3 as-well....
Developers rant about 'next gen possibilities' then get a kick in the balls when they realise exactly how limited the hardware resources really are.
skrat_01
Killzone 2 and Heavy Rain.

That's hardly a suitable rebuttal to skrat's statement.

I don't see how this counters my post at all :?The games are yet to come out anyway, and from what has been shown is hardly anything groundbreaking. Even stuff like Heavy Rains advanced story telling was done to quite an extent in Fahrenheit, and the other is a pretty linear shooter...Its nothing that pushes the hyped hardware of the console in mind blowing directions as originally promised....
Thats why it has the most 80 scores on game rankings compared to Halo 3 or Gears.
And has a lower average than both on gamerankings.
Yeah I know we're on GS but do you really base your game decisions on 1 opinion.

This is old news, and it's still AAA with "teh downgradez". Who cares, it came out great.

True.
But I'm concerned with some of the comments that MGS4 is not fun and boring.
I eventually get the PS3, maybe when they update the sorry arse controller, but I like to atleast rent MGS4 someday.

Killzone 2 is mindblowing the destruction, graphics, animations, lighting all look amazing.
Go to game trailers and look at the comparison between the 2005 version vs the actual game. The actual game is multitudes better than the 2005 version. Anyways that article seems old; didn't look at the date, but it is old. For those who say mgs4 isn't the best looking console game is in denial. Comparing it to Uncharted it is better in most parts but others like chapter 2 while walking in the jungle nothing compares to Uncharted, except for crysis on the highest settings. Just face the facts, the ps3 is much more powerful than most of you want to admit.

this comment is full of win. congrats. you actually make sense and i wish the haters understand that if this game got a 10 supposedly downgradeed imagine what the scores would have been if it was at full power.

People that say MGS4 is "not fun and boring" (I';m being honest here, I've never even heard that about MGS4) are looking for a reason to hate it simply because of the system it's on. If it were multiplatform, we wouldn't hear nearly any of that kind of propanda. You don't see people attacking COD4 like HALO 3, because it's multiplat.
MGS4 got great scores almost everywhere because it's just a great game.Forget comparison's, and rumor. To actually play it at your own pace, take in all the secrets hidden in the game, and play it wt your pace and difficulty, you see how good it is.
Playing at a friends house for 20 minutes while he's in the bathroom isn't the MGS4 experience. Those are the same people calling it "boring". They don't know what they are talking about.
Also, I thinkThe Batman:Dark Knight was boring with no action, because I saw 10 minutes of footage on YouTube and spoke to others that agree. Now I'm posting about it.
See, how that doesn't work? Who am I to judge Batman:Dark Knight without at least sitting down and watching it.
Confirm the reputation of the "Naysayers' Voices" before legitimizing them and later recalling their "MGS4 is Boring" comments.
