Market value for MS is $266 billion

Ah, good old Microsoft. Their company ideals of "why develop or create something when you can pay someone else that has already done the legwork" is just inspiring to behold. The way they throw money around and slander their opponents is truly American, and makes me want to collect unemployment while I sit on my ass.

Has Microsoft or anyone under the employ of Microsoft ever actually had an original thought? This buying exclusives thing is really getting ridiculous.

Seriously though if this is true I will be too livid for words.

Microsoft: Step to the plate and get one of your multimillionaire-salaried employees to use his overeducated brain to develop an ORIGINAL IP. BRAWN > BRAIN, you go MS!

I really hope this is true now you concole people will know how it feels when a big company like micro soft or sony takes a tittle away!!! just like they do to pc gamers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wtf are you on about? I hope you don't mean Battlefield: Bad Company because it is probably the worst shooter to come out in years.

I doubt it. Capcom is too big of a company to play by childish rules like that. It could potentially damage the sales of millions of copies of RE 5. bstarter29

They threw $50m at RockStar for exclusive GTA4 content (which I feel will actually have very little effect on anything since GTA4 already feels like old news). If they throw $75m at Capcom I'm sure they could be persuaded to forget the PS3 for a few months.

Thing is, BioHazard in Japan is even bigger than Res Evil is in the rest of the world. It really doesn't make sense for them to screw their diehard Japanese fanbase, who has no interest in the Xbox360. I think in the long run it would sell a lot less and unless MS's offer is enough to cover the entire production cost I don't see it realistically happening.

 All i saw was bovine tears in that. Tough luck for you if you do not own a 360. MS has been spending money to make sure they have a great game libary. Do not be upset that Sony does not have close to the amount of money MS has so they can not do the same. Even Sony just said they will have to start buying exclusives in a interview recently. They just will never have the cash MS does.

Sony has alot more money then microsoft. Sony is everything camaras tvs bluray ps3 recording companies they make movies overall there a bigger company then microsoft they just dont spend their money on ps3 exclusives

I am not even going to explain how much more money MS has then Sony cause I have a feeling it would be like ramming my head into a wall. Trust me though MS dwarfs Sony in the money area.

Wrong. MS is one of the largest companies in the world. Not sure of their exact size as of today, but it's typically top 5. Plus they have a lot of cash on hand. Sony has their money tied up in hard assets.

[QUOTE="BioShockOwnz"]Some people forget RE4 was a timed Gamecube exclusive. Sony allowed it then and they'd allow it again...Eltroz

Sony was in a position of power with the PS2. It's a different story with the PS3.

They are still not in a position of power when it comes to Capcom. Capcom is not a part of Sony. If MS offers them some coin for a timed game then it is a win for Capcom as much as MS. RE5 could flop huge but they got that money at least from MS and MS will get all the early buyers. So for Capcom it is free money and the game will still go to PS3 at a later date.

Capcom will not lose sales because more people will just buy the 360 version unless it is a flopped game and in that case like i said Capcom still gets that money.

I didn't mean in a position of power with Capcom. I was saying that Sony last gen could afford to let the Cube get RE 4 for awhile. This time around though, they aren't as fortunate. RE 5 is big title in their lineup, and they have a high channce of it being more successful on their console. It would be very damaging if they let it slip to M$ for a month in advance. Which is why I don't think Sony will allow this to happen. Nore do I actually see Capcom taking the money.

This is digging ditches? I thought this is exactly what employees of Microsoft are expected to do. You know, design, develop, create. Nice analogy except I don't think designing software is beneath them, in fact I think it's what the company was founded on.

I just find it amusing how the pillar of American business, Microsoft, hasn't created a single original thing in their entire lifespan. They wait until someone else takes a risk, and then copy it. Yeah it pays off, but it makes me disgusted with humanity. Go USA! Throw money at problems until they go away.

I hope not. If M$ can't get developers to come on board on there own then they need to change things in the company itself instead of trying to buy there way into game studios.jimm895

So microsoft are the only company that pays for exclusivity rights? All of Sony's exclusives are developed for PS3 because their Dad's know each other? lol

Stop getting your data from Wikipedia and go to actual sites like CNNMoney.com or FT.com

MS is a larger company with more assets, including liquid assets.

How does sony stop it? It's not like they have a powerful hand to say if you do this capcom we won't advertise your next game. Sony needs everygame and market trick to keep up with the 360 and they can forget about catching the wii.

Only way to stop it is for Sony to pay more than M$. OR convince capcom that the first week of sales on the PS3 will make more than M$ is paying. (or something like that). Basically it comes down to how much $$$$$ is M$ throwing at capcom to make it a timed exclusive. AND how far behind is the PS3 version vs the 360 version? If the 360 version is done earlier than the PS3 version AND capcom gets a little extra $$$$, I don't see why they wouldn't realse the 360 first.

But I thought RE4 sold more on the Gamecube than on the PS2?

I'm not surprised thats just the way a company like Microsoft works and they'll still probably end up last. Of course Lemmings/360 owners are going to be like great it's their platform getting it earlier sucks for PS3 only owners though. If Capcom accepts this I guess they don't want to bulk of the Japanese sales that the PS3 would get... DMC4 says hello but whatever.

Ok here is how revenue works in a easy form-

Say you sell a TV for $200. That $200 will be the revenue. Out of that money you take out costs such as parts, storage, advertising, etc. Then you may be left with $20 and that $20 is net income which is what the company keeps. More to it then that but you get the point. So net income is the better number.

That title belongs to the PS3 exclusive, HAZE.

Haze may have lacked gameplay, but it has decent graphics while Battlefield: Bad Game has horrible graphics full of jaggies and washed out colors. They both have horrible stories but at least Haze attempted some originaity while Battlefield: Bad Game is a hokey hodgepodge of War movie cliches with a comedic tone on par with Bully even though your objectives include blowing opponents into little pieces. The gameplay in both is broken and uninspiring.

You fail.

How is MGS4, by the way? Are you on Act 6 yet? I hear imaginary PS3's get an extra act at the end.

Out of that money you take out costs such as parts, storage, advertising, etc. Then you may be left with $20 and that $20 is net income which is what the company keeps. More to it then that but you get the point. So net income is the better number.

ya i know how it works i just couldn't find net income

Well MS's net income is far larger then Sony's. Sure a 48 inch TV may cost more then Vista but also costs a heck of a lot more to make and ship.

BRAWN > BRAIN, you go MS!

excelR83

Do you dig all your own ditches or would you rather pay someone to do the dirty work?

This is digging ditches? I thought this is exactly what employees of Microsoft are expected to do. You know, design, develop, create. Nice analogy except I don't think designing software is beneath them, in fact I think it's what the company was founded on.

I just find it amusing how the pillar of American business, Microsoft, hasn't created a single original thing in their entire lifespan. They wait until someone else takes a risk, and then copy it. Yeah it pays off, but it makes me disgusted with humanity. Go USA! Throw money at problems until they go away.

What's the difference? But yes M$ had had many IPs. They have many software patents. Check out Microsoft's R&D website.

As of right now, year to date:

MS Gross Profit: $40.43 Billion

Sony Gross Profit: $15.86 Billion

Sony has more revenue this year ( 82.05 Billion to 57.95 Billion for MS) but they have a much higher overhead, thus a substantially lower profit.

Microsoft is no where near the top 5 largest companies in the world. I'm not really sure what microsoft owns besides microsoft and part of msnbc and msn.com. I check it out

[QUOTE="Eltroz"][QUOTE="lusitanogamer"]If true, this is one more reason for a lot of people to hate MS. I could understand them paying for exclusive extra content, but paying to have the game time exclusive is a crime for a lot of PS3 owners only that are so eagerlywaiting for this game.badbaackwards

Wrong. MS is one of the largest companies in the world. Not sure of their exact size as of today, but it's typically top 5. Plus they have a lot of cash on hand. Sony has their money tied up in hard assets.

Microsoft is no where near the top 5 largest companies in the world. I'm not really sure what microsoft owns besides microsoft and part of msnbc and msn.com. I check it out

At the high of the stock bubble they actually passed up GE as teh largest company in the world (market value). top 5 was a swag...someone above said 60 (sounds low to me, but believable as the stock has been static for years now).

EDIT: as of may 2008 they are the 7th largest: http://www.topix.com/metro/newark-nj/2008/05/petrobras-passes-microsoft-icbc-to-become-worlds-sixth-biggest-company

Okay, quick question. Do the public schools of America teach economics or business classes anymore? My private schools did, but this thread is showing me some...disturbing possibilities.Verge_6

But isn't it good business to not spend money towards gaining a competitive advantage? :|

[QUOTE="stiltzsy"]M$ certainly can afford it. The real question is...is it worth it to M$? sonicmj1

Of course it is. RE 5 is one of the few multiplats will most likely sell more on PS3.

But I thought RE4 sold more on the Gamecube than on the PS2?

:?

Could that be because RE 4 had almost a whole year head start when it came out for the Cube?

And I said most likely, I didn't say it would for a fact.

By now, you may have heard about the "Major RE5 Reveal at E3″ that Videogaming247 is reporting.

Some more information has made its way to PlayStationLife****net…

Whether or not this information is true is unknown. However we felt it is our duty to give fans a heads up on a HUGE announcement that MAY be coming @ E3.

Please take this as a rumor as that's all it is at this point. No solid information on the subject yet.

From what I have been told, Microsoft is looking to pay Capcom an undisclosed amount, for timed exclusivity of Resident Evil 5. It is still not known if Capcom has accepted the offer… The information we got, was only that Microsoft has made the offer.

If this is going to be announced it will be @ E3. Similar to the GTAIV "showing of the tattoo" a couple of years ago.

It this is true, all of you petition fanatics out there better get to work.

Remember this is just a rumor, and nothing is known for sure at this time.

Personally I am hoping that this is NOT true.

[QUOTE="bstarter29"]I doubt it. Capcom is too big of a company to play by childish rules like that. It could potentially damage the sales of millions of copies of RE 5. blitzkid1

remeber how resident evil 4 came out on the gamecube first and it still sold millions.

remember when he said if re4 ever went to another console he would cut his arm off. yeah

Yep. That's Mr. Softy muscling in with its massive cash piles in tow to change markets. They're a Prime Mover. I actually kind of like it, but I think it might lend to negative press & martyrdom towards "poor, poor" Sorny & the Cows. I can see this only as a maneuver to corner Western markets. The Japanese seem absolutely ruthless in their convictions to buy Japanese-made consoles & Japanese-made games only. It's kind of weird how one-sided they are, whereas in the Americas we can enjoy the best of both worlds & not be so utterly biased towards "Made In America"-only products. If we were like that, then globalization would be dead. Although granted the 360 has its one technical issue & that might be the main stigma of purchasing it, but it's really not that big a deal since they fix it, so I think this is just resistance to buying foreign made games in the Japanese culture.

Lost Planet was a timed exclusive. If this rumor is true, RE5 would be in the same situation.

I doubt they'd take a significant hit in total revenue by going timed exclusive, and they'd make money from whatever MS paid them.

The Forbes Global 2000 has MS at 63rd. The Forbes 500 has them at 44th. Listed by revenue, they are 117th, and by market cap they are 7th.
