[QUOTE="excelR83"]We garnered that about the time the whole "MS hasn't come up with a single unique product ever" bit came about.Yes, it's so obvious that I've said exactly that several times in the course of my posts here. It's all to throw you off my trail!

I will boil this thread down. People are possibly getting ****ed over, so we are complaining about it. When the government bumps taxes up do you complain and commiserate with the rest of us working saps, or do you expound at length about how our taxes are put to good use and it just makes sense from a business standpoint?
Sometimes you just have to STFU and go with the flow.
Knowing intellectually that buying exclusive property makes sense and accepting it without question are two different things. Emotions are involved. I don't want to buy a 360. Most of my friends have one and I'm truly not missing anything (except for maybe N+, that game is addictive!) If I miss Res Evil 5, or have to wait months for it because MS threw money at them and money is more important than us gamers that get caught in between, I don't have to be rational about it.
The point is that most of us like to complain when we are getting hooped, and nobody likes the "voice of reason" to come along and tell you that you really should have been home more often and that's why your girlfriend slept with your brother.

Someone takes things a little too literally. Obviously they have thought of ONE ORIGINAL IDEA in the course of thirty years, Jesus Christ. The majority of their success is based on stealing other peoples ideas and barely legel monopolistic business practices.
Why are you playing dumb?
[QUOTE="excelR83"]Sony is hardly an angel, but I find it laughable that you can even compare the two in terms of despicable business practices. It is well-documented how Microsoft got to where it is.
All big business are despicable, but Microsoft absolutely rewrites the game when it comes to buyouts, hostile takeovers, freezeouts, outright intellectual property theft...
Sony is Japanese and Japanese businesses still operate under some kind of code of conduct that prohibits them from being outright sleazeballs. Maybe if they weren't held in place by local traditions and given free reign, they would be as bad as MS. I just don't think they are.
Anyway I really don't care about Sony as a company. I like the Playstation brand for what it has brought me over the years. Love your 360, but I don't see how you can defend the company behind it. Saying MS is "only as bad as the next guy" is like saying several people died in the holocaust.
jknight5422
Sorny stole the Nintendo game console right out from under them which allowed them to produce the first Playstation & produce a wrecking ball on Nintendo's profits & destroying Sega entirely. So I'd just release that blame game trigger at Mr. Softy if I were you there buddy. Go check your history lessons. MS is totally as "bad as the next guy". They're not some how a "greater evil" over Sorny. It's just a bigger fish getting into the market. Which is EXACTLY what Sorny did to Nintendo back in the early 90's. If you ask me, it's deliverance of a severely owed come-uppance to the Sorny empire. Outright and deserved ownage. So I wouldn't see a reason to hate Mr. Softy for playing dirty tricks. Sorny wrote the playbook for that.
Likewise, if it wasn't for the Xbox & Halo 2, I would still have been a hermit today, rather than even considering consoles and their games.
The word antitrust is practically coined with Microsoft in mind, yeah I would say they are a little worse than most. Obviously not as bad as ENRON, but who is.
Stole the Nintendo game console? Please explain. This is really interesting to me. I won't rip it to shreds until you clarify exactly what you mean.
Sony wrote the playbook? For what, antitrust/monopolies, IP theft, borderline illegal business practices, hostile takeovers?
[QUOTE="jknight5422"][QUOTE="Zoso-8"]Unless MS is forking over 50 mil, Capcom will most likely make more money by keeping it multiplatform.darthogre
They'll make their money on other platforms regardless. Those that own a non-360 aren't going to give up their console when they don't get their game, they'll wait & then buy it when they have a release. So for Capcom, it's adding several extra million on top of a cash cow. Why would anyone turn that down?
Probably Nintendo will come out to delay the release of RE 5 for the Wii after the 360 release. PS3 gets their RE 5 a year late.
*snicker*
That's wrong, it does hurt sales when you do timed exclusives. Why else would their be a need to PAY for it? I was in a gaming conference last year and sales reps for a lot of the 3rd party companies told me it's extremely important to not only release X360 and PS3 at the same time, but it's very important to make sure the game plays exactly the same (usually meaning graphics). Any delay will hurt sales alot.....I know this from experience as I run a lot of rental locations.
I know I said otherwise earlier in the thread, but the more I think about it, the more I agree with you.
Lost Planet did well as a 360 exclusive, but when it came out on the PS3, I don't think it made much of a splash at all. There are tons of examples of games that hit a bit later on the PS3 (like Orange Box) that hardly sold at all when they released late. If you thought UT3 did badly on the PS3, wait till you see the 360 sales numbers.
For most timed exclusives, especially this generation, by the time they hit on the other platform, people have already moved on to newer games on their platform. They aren't interested in a title that's months old.
Microsoft would have to be offering a lot of money for that offer to make financial sense to Capcom.

Obviously Sales reps want their commission & when they speak, the commission is what they're talking about. Of course they want it to go to every system right away, it's more money in their pockets and all at once. The delay affects their commission! I'm sorry, but if Mr. Softy puts a delay order in, there isn't anything that can be done there. It's a business.

possible.Did anyone ever think that the development of the X360 version may be that much ahead of the PS3 version? It will probably take an extra 4-6 months to develop the PS3 version anyway.

Oh and now Hostile takeovers are against the law? If someone proposes a pretty good deal and no one else comes with an equal or more value, I see no problems with a company going to the actual OWNERS of the company and showing them what they have proposed. To me my friend that is business, I guess you are not meant to be in the world of business thats why you are saying the things you are.
There definitely are a lot of MS fanboys in this thread. How can you be happy that a game gets delayed for another console? Simple answer: Fanboyism.

Look I'm not saying I'm happy because honestly I could care less if it comes out for the PS3 or not because I don't own one. I just want it to come to my system. The bottom line is this is business and for some reason people in here don't understand whether you agree with it or not, if MS has the money to keep something exclusive for a while under their 360 brand, there absolutely nothing wrong with that. Sony can do it as well and I'm sure they have in the past. Some people just don't want to see it that way, they see it as MS being the big jerks, when this is business.

lol, you think these people work off commission? Ok maybe saying sales reps is not giving them the proper title. They are assigned to you.....like Wal-Mart has a rep which also might work with the Blockbuster Stores. They are not commission based at all. I meet with the Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Eidos, National Sales Manager for Namco/Bandai, Regional Sales Director for Ubisoft, Sales Manager for Activision, Associate Regional Sales Manager for Konami (which is how I knew Sony PAID for MGS4), Sales Manager for Atari (no laughing please), Account Manager for Vivendi Games, Sales Director for Warner games, and others. I still have their business cards.
Do those people sound like they work off commison?

Naw. It's already been stated in this thread that timed exclusivity pretty much kills sales on console number 2, and I definitely agree.
Not only do they save on marketing by releasing everything in one big rush of hype, they basically strike while the iron is hot in terms of popularity. I can't think of any timed exclusives that have sold exceedingly well on the second console. Once it's old news nobody wants to touch it. That's why MS would have to throw a lot of money their way to make it viable.
I really think it's best for all parties involved that this stay multiplat.

I'm not surprised that they are doing is but I am VERY surprised if they could get such a huge game as RE5 timed or outright exclusive.
My point is Capcom had better of taken a TON of money to do this because you are going to need to make up for the loss of PS3 sales. No matter what you people think will happen, 3rd party developers know they will lose PS3 sales by delaying it (not to mention you will have a whole lot of pissed off fanboys and Sony as well.....that alone could hurt future games tbh)

Haha me too st1ka.
As far as I'm concerned. Microsoft buys my love and because of that I buy their games (Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Viva Pinata, Perfect Dark Zero, Kameo, Halo 3, Crackdown). It's a Win Win Win situation - we all win.
And yeah of course PS3 owners are going to be mad that they can't get their favourite series for another 8 months while 360 owners have had it for 8 months. That's what Microsoft wants you to feel. Angry at Sony and thus you may or may not have the urge to buy a 360 for RE5 or GTA IV Exclusive Content or all those JRPGs.
Also, Dead Rising, Lost Planet and DMC4 have all sold pretty good on the 360.

I just said that rationality doesn't come into play in a situation like this, sometimes you just want to complain without some douche ass voice of reason stepping in with some factual-based nerdery.

Considering Microsoft has to pay them for the lost sales out of pocket, and considering that timed exclusivity will sink sales completely on the PS3, this actually might not be a very good move for Microsoft. The amount of consoles it would push might not be sufficient for it to be a worthwhile investment.

Some more information has made its way to PlayStationLife****net…
Whether or not this information is true is unknown. However we felt it is our duty to give fans a heads up on a HUGE announcement that MAY be coming @ E3.
Please take this as a rumor as that's all it is at this point. No solid information on the subject yet.
From what I have been told, Microsoft is looking to pay Capcom an undisclosed amount, for timed exclusivity of Resident Evil 5. It is still not known if Capcom has accepted the offer… The information we got, was only that Microsoft has made the offer.
If this is going to be announced it will be @ E3. Similar to the GTAIV "showing of the tattoo" a couple of years ago.
It this is true, all of you petition fanatics out there better get to work.
Remember this is just a rumor, and nothing is known for sure at this time.
Personally I am hoping that this is NOT true.

Considering, everyone already knows that RE5 is being made for PS3 and coming out for PS3...this seems pretty stupid and pointless on MS's part. Timed exclusives only matter when you buy exclusivity BEFORE everyone already knows its coming out for all systems. Because then people believe that if they want the game, they have to buy your console.
I fail to see how buying exclusivity NOW is going to help MS move 360s. People already know that the game is coming out for PS3 and I doubt the idea of waiting a few extra months for a multiplat is going to make them change their minds about which console to buy.

Holy **** did you ever miss the point.
I just said that rationality doesn't come into play in a situation like this, sometimes you just want to complain without some douche ass voice of reason stepping in with some factual-based nerdery.
Just because the system is the system doesn't mean you have to like it. If the tables were turned you would be saying the same thing.
But yeah, that was quite the slice of "ownage". Why do I keep coming here.
I didn't miss the point. I knew exactly what you meant. It still doesn't change anything and really I was just answering your points.I wasn't trying to be a smart ass at all. I know people hate to be told they are wrong, but sometimes, maybe you should listen. As for me not liking it because it's not on my system, I don't waste time on nonsense like that. I have all of the systems except for the Wii (I sold it). If a game comes out that I want I BUY it. Having a loyalty to a corporation that doesn't give a rats ass about me is silly beyond all comprehension.
[QUOTE="darthogre"]And don't get me wrong here either, MS doing this is completely legit. AFter all Sony did pay for MGS4 which is why Cows have been cheering for the past couple of days. MS seems to have taken the strategy that instead of getting a lot 1st party titles that may or may not do well, they pay a part of that developement cost to the 3rd party for either exclusivsity or timed exclusivity.

Considering Microsoft has to pay them for the lost sales out of pocket, and considering that timed exclusivity will sink sales completely on the PS3, this actually might not be a very good move for Microsoft. The amount of consoles it would push might not be sufficient for it to be a worthwhile investment.
Go ahead and read what you typed there again that is in bold. How is that bad for MS and make it a bad investment for MS?[QUOTE="sonicmj1"][QUOTE="blackdreamhunk"][QUOTE="heretrix"][QUOTE="Zhengi"]How could you get mad that MS is making moves to secure great games for their platform? There definitely are a lot of MS fanboys in this thread. How can you be happy that a game gets delayed for another console? Simple answer: Fanboyism.
As for the rumor, we'll see if it's true next month. Man, I wish E3 would get here already.

Fanboy-ism aside, if there's one thing that M$ is doing to really screw over gamers, it's spending as much money as possible to exclude a large amount of those fans. I wish every game was multiplat, so we would never have these problems. People call it "just business", which it is. But you're letting one company attempt a total takeover of the video games business. Do gamers really want money being the key factor in creating new games? No wonder we keep seeing FPS after FPS. Video Game quality has been going greatly down hill since last gen. Moves by M$ (And Sony too) do nothing but push this idea forward. dr-venkman
Can I quote you? Having it all multi-platform sounds so communist. Why produce a console? How do you gain any advantages if there isn't an exclusive set of games for it? Why move away from PC ? How do you compete? Perhaps one day, the mass majority of console owners just decide they like the 360 better & just dump the BS3, PC, and Wii just because. ??
There is no total take-over of the game business by Mr. Softy. I think you're being paranoid. If you want to look at total takeover of the Games business you should be looking at EA Games.

Do you applaur when the NY Yankee's spend 10x the money of their competitors to secure a dream team? Chelsea FC? Do you think it's a triumph for civilization when money trumps loyalty, quality, sportsmanship etc?
I was disillusioned as a kid when I realized money controls sports, and it's not any less disheartening to see it happening to games. "YEAH BUT DURR IT'S A BIZNEZZ IDIOT!" Yeah sure, but as I said I don't have to like it, and I sincerely doubt that if the shoe was on the other foot and you saw uninhibited capitalism taking something you enjoyed away from you, you wouldn't be singing such a bipartisan, I'm-logical tune. I've seen enough sour grapes from you to know I am right.
The real point we are ignoring is that this is just a rumor and there is very little chance of it being true. When you see that MGS4 360 box-set, let me know. Please Log In to post.
