Well even though I didn't play the N64 alot I say PS1. Lots of classics were created on that (not saying there weren't alot on the N64 either I just like Ps1 better :P ).
I only had a N64 but my cousin and a friend had PSOnes so I always played it. I liked the N64 the best even though it is undeniable the PSOne has a far bigger amount of great games, however some of them didn't appeal to me. The combination of Nintendo and Rare made the N64 a fantastic system, too bad that besides that there really isn't a lot to be enjoyed.
Exactly these people are all fps gamers (perhaps the lemming crowd of today) I prefered all the ps1 RPGs as n64 had none , and Action - Adventure, third person shooters like MGS, Syphon filter, and arcade shooters like Loaded, Horror games like RE and SH, 3d platformers some with rpg elements ...MEGAMAN LEGENDS 1 and 2 fnatastic games! The PS1 had a library that couldn't be beat and it was on disc so it could hold massive amount of data. It was such a boost from the pervios gen going from 32mb max for cartridge to 640mb disc or more. And as for Rare the only game I remember rare for is Donkey Kong Country back on Snes, of course that was my last Nintendo Console in the early 90's... But these guys think all 5 rare games beat an entire library...nonsense, but it's their opinion and I will respect that I just don;t understand how all these fanatical rare fans are on system wars, and isn't it funny how most of them are lemmings...guess they followed rare?I can't believe people that can say that the N64 was the better console, when they can only list like 10 games at max. Ps1 was better by sheer quality, and quantity.

I played an n64 at a co-workers house a few months ago , he brought out Golden Eye and we did a 3 way death match...man that game looks awful!!! And it controlled worth crap. I don't know how you guys liked that so much. I played Medal of Honor on ps1 on psn and that game looks much better and plays much better as a shooter.....but it doesn't have multiplayer, but I don't really care.... multiplayer was never my focus and it has always been on an entertaining interactive story and fun...not fraging...well not until I got a new pc and fell in love with Quake 3 and unreal tornament...now those were shooters! Real 3d hardware accelerated. and fun as hell.

PSOne hands down! 8)
MGS, Soul Reaver, FF7, FF8, and many more say hi!
wapahala
Super Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Lylat Wars, Banjo Kazooie, Banjo Tooie, Majora's Mask, Donkey Kong 64, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Paper Mario, Mario Kart 64, Jet Force Gemini, Super Smash Bros. and many more beg to differ ;)
Don;t forget SUPERMAN64!!!! the best game ever!!!! lol..... did you just list almost the entire n64 library in 2 lines? Yeah they didn't have much and it was mostly from 2 devs.... and NO RPGS and hardly any games with Adults as the main characters...it was mostly Bears and Beavers and other furries...oh and mascots. The ps1 had so many games so many great games and it was just that damn good! I do wonder how many n64 rare fans are lemmings today?i had both, but N64 was just my favorit console of all time, so much fun with my friends on multiplayer
best single player games too
best graphics
best controles (ish) some games
just amazing
----
i think the reson i likes it more then thee ps1 was probably becouse of the multiplayer, 4 controles > 2 controles
THE PS1.
It just destroyed anything else i played in the 1990's.
The n64 hand a handful of first party shiny, shiny, gems...but the phenomenon that was playstation just outweighed it..
that thing was just too good.
For me, it is the Nintendo 64. I still play the system to this day (just played it yesterday) and I still love it. I've only had a little bit of experience playing a PlayStation, but I just enjoy the Nintendo franchises far too much. I'm sure the PSOne is an excellent console in its own right, but I just prefer the N64.
The Virtual Boy was the ultimate system... ever lol
PSOne of course because N64 had too many childish games
dreamcast is not made during n64 ps1 genN64 had better games, but the Dreamcast beat them both.

[QUOTE="surrealnumber5"]64 because it was better to play with friends, the ps1 had its great RPG games but thats all it hadjonnyt61439 A+ plus games on GR disagrees with you. Unless they were all RPGs :) i had around 30 ps1 games and only 12 or so 64 games and almost all of my ps1 games were RPGs so for me the only games i liked then and still like from the ps1 were RPGs. the 64 had TBS FPS and platformers on lock that gen
really?I can't believe people that can say that the N64 was the better console, when they can only list like 10 games at max. Ps1 was better by sheer quality, and quantity.

Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Jet Force Gemini, SM64, Wave Race 64, F-Zero X, Conker's Bad Fur Day, 1080 Snowboarding, Banjo Kazooie, Banjo Tooie, Beetle Adventure Racing (incredible game), World Driver Championship (another incredible, HIGHLY UNDERRATED title), Cruisin' USA, Cruisin' World, Doom 64, Extreme-G, Extreme-G2, Excite Bike 64, Killer Instinct Gold, Star Fox 64, LOZ: OoT, LOZ: MM, Mario Kart 64, MK: Trilogy, Pilot Wings 64, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, Star Wars: Ep.1 Racer, Star Wars: Shadow of the Empire, Star Wars: Battle for Naboo, Tetrisphere, Turok, Turok 2, Turok 3
There's 34 off the top of my head that were either exclusive or better on the N64. :| What's this about a small list of games?

Some of which didn't score very good, but some of which users liked. And no, not all N64 owners followed Rare. (If that were the case, people would be crazed for XBOX 360's right now).N64 had better games, but the Dreamcast beat them both.
dreamcast is not made during n64 ps1 gen It was released 1998 (midway of that), and finished 2001 when Gamecube and XBOX were released, so it sort of was released that gen.i guess this is why im not a sony fanboy of those games listed the only franchise i like is the MGS one and that was not crated on the playstationIt definitely has to be the PS1, it came out of nowhere and produces SO many great games and franchises. Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, MGS1, Gran Turismo, Tekken are just a few examples.

nintendoboy16
It was released 9-9-1999; a year before the ps2 came out. Two years before the gamecube (I think) and Xbox came out.
The Sega Saturn launched around the same time are the ps1 and n64.

The Saturn was from the N64 PSOne era, and the Dreamcast was from the PS2 GCN Xbox generationWow, pretty awesome that the N64 is winning! Then again, it simply does have the best games: Super Mario 64, Zelda: OoT, Goldeneye 007, Perfect Dark, Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart 64, Diddy Kong Racing, Banjo Kazooie, Paper Mario, Zelda: Majora's Mask, etc., etc.princeofshapeir
The PS1 actually had a stronger library with more AAA and AA games (much more), but the N64 had a very good library for a 2nd place console (It did sell more than Saturn world wide didn't it?)

[QUOTE="jonnyt61"]Nice find, but this topic is opinionated though, notice it says "console of YOUR choice".This is just for the list wars... All from Metacritic/Gamerankings. All titles A+
N64 Here - 67Meta / 150GR
PS1 Here - 143Meta / 439GR
Now, that's A+, which is considered on this board, the cut off for games worth bothering with.
Total games wise, the PS1 absolutely crushes N64.

And to this quote: It's because there are a lot of people saying that the N64 had a stronger library than the PS1, which isn't about personal preferences. Clearly the PS1 had a stronger library, although it might not appeal to some as much as those much loved N64 games. N64 was the first console I ever owned and I loved the games, they were great. But the PS1 does have a stronger library hich I find myself buying into to this day.
Here are a list of games on the PS1 that are really worth owning a sony console to play them for even today:
Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, Dino Crisis, Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy IX, Chrono Cross, Silent Hill, Xenogears, Persona 2 Innocent Sin (Japan only, but I can't leave it out), Parasite Eve, Parasite Eve 2.
N64 had Rare, PS1 had Square. XD

Silent Hilll as well for the same reason.
I only had the PS1, great console which offered some amazing titles... N64 was a great console too, just didnt have many games i wanted so i decided not to get one...
