Mod Edit: Edited the title a bit to have all the relevant information right there in the title.

This is an article taken from Nintendoeveryting.com:

Eurogamer has a new report on NX – the first concrete rumors about the system since its announcement last year.

The site claims that “NX will be a portable, handheld console with detachable controllers”. That information comes from “a number of sources” speaking with the site.

Eurogamer goes on to say that “NX will function as a high-powered handheld console with its own display.” What makes it more unique is that “the screen is bookended by two controller sections on either side, which can be attached or detached as required.” The system will then be able to connect to the television when at home. There’s also a base unit/dock station “used to connect the brain of the NX – within the controller – to display on your TV.”

As for technology, Nvidia’s powerful Tegra mobile processor is rumored to be behind NX.

Aside from that, Eurogamer also mentions cartridges as physical media. The site has “heard the suggestion Nintendo recommends a 32GB cartridge, which is small when considering the size of many modern games.” Nintendo supposedly making a system which supported digital downloads only, but decided against that.

If this is true then Nintendo has absolutely lost it.

They do not know what the consumer wants.

It'll be another Nintendo system with no legit 3rd Party support and Breath of the Wild will probably run better on WiiU.

How is this a "new" rumor? Isn't this what we expected all along? Or by "new" do you just mean new article?

In terms of power, based on this, Scorpio is 10x as powerful as NX. It's Wii all over again, but without lightning in a bottle. It's gonna be Virtual Boy 2.

@LegatoSkyheart: Huh? A portable/console hybrid is exactly what a lot of people wanted from Nintendo. This way they don't spread their development across two systems and focus it all on one.

But it means that all it'll get is Nintendo games, and they won't look any better than Wii U games. A lot of people want it, but most don't. We want something competitive from Nintendo. This is a complete failure. I'm sick of seeing jaggy, low-res Nintendo games. I want this to flop so hard that Nintendo has to drop it and go third-party in 2018. I want Nintendo games with nice IQ, high-res textures, tons of AA, the works. You know what this shit is? It's a 0.5 TFLOPS, 30 GB/s bandwidth piece of shit. Do you really want that? **** Nintendo. I'm done with them. PC only from now on. Who wants a Majora's Mask New 3DS XL?

an underpowered mess of a console is NOT what I wanted though. The comments about the NX being only slightly on par with PS4 and X1 scares me and making this system a Hybrid like this with Mobile hardware will only fix the supporting 2 systems problem Nintendo has.

It won't solve the 3rd Party issue and it's likely that this system will be aiming towards the Phone Crowd which they're actually going to be more interested in Nintendo games on their phone and systems like Nintendo Mini. NOT NX.

Seriously is it wrong to ask for a Nintendo system that is like what Playstation and Xbox are today? (incoming argument about how they tried with Gamecube and failed. like the Small Discs weren't a problem. incoming WiiU Ubisoft 3rd party argument. As if Not being graphically capable to beat PS3 hardware was a problem.)

This rumor seems to be more believable since Eurogamer is reporting it, but is there a chance they are still wrong?

I'm also confused. So Nintendo is not releasing any traditional home console at all? How is Zelda: Breath of the Wild NX going to be a huge jump over the Wii U version with that hardware? What the hybrid is going on here?

It won't be a huge jump. It'll run at a constant 30FPS and look slightly better. That's it.

This is literally a best case scenario for me, and for Nintendo. Their strength has always been their handhelds, and they've had great third party support on that front. While this sounds weak as a console compared to the competition, its a BEAST of a handheld, and getting all those handheld third party games gives it an extremely different library compared to the HD twins and avoids Nintendo having to fight for the console third parties that they were never going to get anyways. Monster Hunter 5 please :D

All Nintendo resources funneled into making games for one system means no wasted time making a Mario Kart 7 and 8.. one of those two teams could be making something else completely. And it guarantees off tv play for every title which is huge for me.

I thought Nintendo said they haven't revealed the NX because hey were afraid of their main gimmick being copied by Sony/Microsoft? This seems like it would be much harder to copy than a simple gimmick like motion control.

Either way this has to be more powerful than the Wii U, right? That'd be a pretty good handheld if so.

The hybrid part was a given, but the reality that it's just gonna be a string of nintendos titles, but the ones restricted by being made for handhelds is a turn off.

Breath of the Wild is going to be on it, so this comment makes no sense, it's going to be the same types of games they've been making just available in one pack? We still get the home titles, but now you dont have to buy two systems to play fire emblem, monster hunter, etc.

This is based on a patent Nintendo filed few years ago, so it's nothing new..

Also, the handheld will connect to a base unit which has cpu, memory and gpu resources to give more power when games run on TV..

I'm only going to say this once...

Anything that ties Nintendo's handheld development and console development into a single development pipeline WILL be a force to be reckoned with. This is literally what I have been hoping the NX would be, because the Gameboy business is not going to grow in this day and age, yet their talent for making portable games is second to none in terms of talent.

If this pans out to be true, and some of you recall that I had information early on that this was in fact the goal with NX, this could be the best Nintendo console ever. If not for the simple fact that the software release cycle coming from the first party will be nothing short of bonkers.

doubt it'll be more powerful though. I can see this system being another WiiU with 3rd Parties avoiding it like the plague.

A lot of people want this? Not really, no.

It makes the "portable" system sound too bulky . Who wants a "portable system" that is so large it can carry separate "detachable controllers" and can "serve as it's own screen"? That sounds absolutely moronic and pointless from the home console side of things. Plus if true, the home console would feature horribly gimped specs to cater to the portable aspect.

Tegra chip would be fine for a portable, and taking the most recent iteration of the tablet chip alone makes the handheld easily generations ahead of the 3DS. But what good is that for a home console? The answer is... pretty much not good at all.

This rumor is so stupid I don't really believe it. Though the rumor about it being a "hybrid" seems pretty persistent, I just can't believe they would be this dumb.

Well...Nintendo just signed their death warrant in the console market.

Who the hell is going to buy this besides the handful of Nintendo faithful?

Looks like we'll all be playing Mario and Zelda on Steam by 2020.

Sounds good. It's what Nintendo has been always better at... portables. Just worried about the third party support, but so far, I like what I hear. (if the rumors are true of there words) A portable system that you can connect to the TV, with cartridges, must be at least as powerful as the Wii U which is a lot more than 3DS. I might consider getting this but above all, it depends on the launch games of course.

I guess that will depend on what you count as "too much" of a sacrifice as in underpowered. There's not much chance that this is going to be as powerful as an Xbox One if the rumours are true. However, it should be close enough that 3rd party ports are possible, and a noticeable jump above Wii U.

I'm hoping that when Nintendo actually reveals the system, they blow EVERYONE'S expectations and it's a Meaty System and they had already gotten developers like Square, Ubisoft, and Blizzard/Activision on their side so we see Dragon Quest XI, Watchdogs 2, Deus Ex Mankind Divided, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Overwatch, Call of Duty (4 remaster), and we get to see that New Sonic game and We get to see a Main Line Final Fantasy show up on a Nintendo console, the first since Final Fantasy 6, Tekken 7 will be a launch title with Capcom showing up with a New Monster Hunter AND a NX version of Street Fighter V that also connects with the PC and PS4 versions online and best of all we get all of that with new Zelda Breath of the Wild Gameplay and an announcement of New Nintendo games to come on the system.

Now THAT is the Nintendo I want to see.

Realistically, We're getting Wii 3.0 and it's not looking good. Hooray for a New Handheld I guess. R.I.P. Ninty

This is probably crazy talk, but if the docking station had another gpu for the tegra to work with or offload graphics processing altogether like a discrete gpu, then this could be brilliant!

I'm very disappointed in you Bunchanumbers! I may not be a hardcore Nintendo console fanboy but I am a Nintendo handheld fanboy. If Nintendo does this thing right, it might even get 3rd party support we all want from Nintendo, just 3rd party port games for NX. Imagine playing games like GTA V on the GO. but even then playing Smash and Mario Kart with current gen graphics on the GO will already be awesome.

This is exactly what I expected the NX to be when I first heard about it. For Nintendo, it just made the most sense being how dominant they are in the portable market yet unable to compete in both portable AND console at the same time. Cater and redefine to what your strengths are and streamlining it which seems a good business move. Now lets see if it all gets executed well enough.

Wii U is either 176 GFlops, or 352 GFlops (we never definitively found out) using very outdated AMD Radeon architecture from 2008 (Radeon HD 4000 series aka RV7xx)

Tegra X1 is 512 GFlops max (Nvidia Shield TV) and somewhat less when in a mobile device (Google Pixel C tablet). Maxwell architecture.

PS4 is 1,840 GFlops (1.84 TFlop) (AMD GCN 1.x

Xbox One is 1,310 GFlops (1.31 TFlop) AMD GCN 1.x

PS4 Neo is expected to be around 4.2 TFlops (probably AMD Polaris architecture)

Xbox Scorpio is 6 TFlops (either AMD Polaris or more likely Vega architecture)

NX using Tegra X1 would mean Maxwell architecture. If they're using the upcoming Tegra though, that means Pascal architecture, but no idea about the actual performance.

It's only redundant when you compare the 3rd Party games. The Exclusives are what set the consoles apart and that's mostly why I don't own a Xbox 1.

Give Nintendo the 3rd Party of the PS4 and Xbox 1 and you get a freakin' heavty Console. A Console that has Metal Gear, Street Fighter, Final Fantasy, Dark Souls, and Resident Evil WITH Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Donkey Kong, Mario Kart and Smash? It's Super Nintendo all over again!

I don't want any "Secondary Console" Bull Crap! I want a Main System Nintendo that will not take no for an answer.

People don't seem to get it. Nintendo really poured a lot of resources into the 3DS because it had a slow start. This tied one hand behind the WiiU's back. With a hybrid console like this, you get the full weight of Nintendo's game development with no compromise. I imagine that will be more than enough enticement to get people off the sidelines this time around and that will mean the third party gets on board sooner or later.

I really hope this leak is the right one. I also hope the docking station has some "secret sauce" for pushing a home television. As far as seeing Nintendo and NVidia working together? Music to my ears.

Lol at all the people who just wanted a clone of the other two systems when two is redundant as it is.

Its not redundant when you got the greatest lineup of exclusive games in the industry. Nintendo missed out on a real opportunity if true.

What opportunity? A Wii U 2 with great first party and nothing else? Anyone expecting Nintendo to pull home third party games just "cuz hardware" is deluded. A hybrid gives all the same great first party, a beast of a handheld, and a completely unique overall library of third party games that the other systems dont get, giving people a reason to actually own it.

@LegatoSkyheart: Same answer as above.

This also concentrates all of Nintendo's development efforts on one system instead of split across two with many redundant entries (mario kart, 3d mario, etc) which should result in the best first party rollout of ANY Nintendo system.

I was thinking, this will make portable gaming on the go difficult still. Having a standalone controller means that you have to try to fit the screen on your lap while holding the controller. I'd much rather be the controller built into the hardware. I can't see myself playing this in the car/bus as easily as a 3DS.

@charizard1605: so far so good....

That rumor almost guarantees a purchase. The flexibility of gaming my big and small games from an on the go device while also docking with a console is the best "now" gen idea we have seen to date. Easily.

Sony has been sitting on the idea poking it like a dead animal and Nintendo is about to make cake off it. Let's hope they do this right all the way through... Great online, digital catalog for download, my goodness I could almost weep at the idea of that console/handheld.

My body is ready.
