WHAT

No GPU clock increase, @tormentos said it was easy to do and made it out to be simple thing they could do.

Fake 4k gaming, but 4k gaming all the same. For someone who hasnt bought a PS4 the PS4 Pro could be attractive, but no 4k blu ray is a big let down.

It is kind of bizarre this doesn't play 4k blu-ray, but it's hardly a deal breaker.

It really is bizarre. I mean Sony always leads the way in supporting the latest media format and make it playable on their consoles. Maybe they will introduce the PS4 Ultra Pro next year and it'll support UHD discs.

@drummerdave9099: I bet this news will increase their lead. Xbone S just became even more obsolete now. The $299 price point for PS4 slim is unbeatable, and $399 PS4 Pro is just icing on the cake.

as always a same cost PC on the release date will beat the console, now imagine you built a $400 PC 3 years ago and decide to upgrade with another $400, you can overclock a gtx 1060 ($250), buy an i5 ($180) and have 2x the power of a PS4 pro without the terrible CPU bottleneck and memory limitations

The PS4 and the PS4 slim are rather useless retail devices with the PS4 Pro existing for just $100 more. There is no reason to buy a PS4 with the PS4 Pro around.

the ps4 will end up being the worst selling sony console of all time, xbox one will be below some sega and nintendo failures of old times

Meh, 500 GB consoles are pretty unappealing in general in today's gaming world. Xbone S also has the 4K blu-ray player which none of the PS4's do. PS4 is also lacking an appealing holiday games lineup. If it beats Xbox this holiday I would be impressed.

I hope this continues to drive down the price of the launch PS4 though. Starting to see them around 200-250 on Craigslist, I'm waiting for 100-150.

So, I got a couple of questions before I do buy a PS4 Pro:

I currently own the PS4 which had 500GB of internal storage until I replaced the harddrive with a 2TB model (Seagate Spinpoint M9t 2TB 2.5", if specifics are necessary)

If I go ahead and get a PS4 Pro and then replace the harddrive with my current 2TB one, will that affect the specs and performance? Or is the internal hardrive strictly for internal storage rather than performance?

Also, will I be able to use my current PSN account and email with a new console?

The X1S was always daft IMO, even without the pro smiting it, with the scorpio coming just round the corner.

For people with no PS4 I think the pro is a great machine, just not convinced its worth upgrading for.

Yeah, you're better off getting an Xbox One S with a 2 TB HDD and a 4k Blu-ray player at the same price! It also does upscale games to 4k and uses HDR.

The performance would not be affected. The only thing the hard drive affects is loading and installation.

The PSN account would work the same way it does for all Sony devices. Seamlessly.

No. The PS4 Pro is a better purchase than the 2TB Xbox One S even without the Blu Ray player.

Maybe if you're a hardcore gamer. For the vast majority of gamers that are casuals $299 is an excellent price point and they will eat up PS4 Slims at that price.

Unless you have some stats that say otherwise.

It's not really around the corner. It's coming out in more than a year. X1 Slim was a good move on MS' part for multiple reasons. It gave them a pretty modest boost in sales as a result.

Also, Sony could start and finish a project in the realm of scorpio in the time between now and scorpio.

The pro is catered to 4k content. You say that a majority of the gamers don't own 4k tvs.........so if you're buying this for your 4k tv and it doesn't have a lot of 4k options, it's kind of stupid.

Since my thread was locked I thought we'd continue this conversation. My original post below.

Sony has been killing it for almost three years straight, yet they felt they needed to release a half-baked incremental PS4 upgrade this year for no apparent reason other than to offer another option to gamers. Did they think Microsoft was potentially going to release a more powerful console this year and felt they needed to have something to respond with? I just don't understand why they felt that they needed a new console this year.

It just seems to me that they should have waited longer to release a more substantial upgrade. People seem pretty happy with their PS4s currently, so whats the rush?

I don't think a majority of gamers will be buying the Neo for 4K, they'll probably buy it because it's a more powerful PS4 that will play existing PS4 games with better graphics on their current 1080p TVs. The good $399 price point makes it easy to justify buying one even if you don't own a 4K TV even if it's just for the enhanced visuals.

No it's not. It's just a beefier system upgrade, with some 4k content on the side. He clearly says it will greatly benefit 1080p sets.

AMD pressured Sony to move onto their newer infrastructure, because it was cheaper. This was behind the development of the PS4 pro.

Sony is smart for pushing this stinker of a reveal and hide it on a busy day where kids are back in school and there's a more popular tech show the same day and hope they'll ride on the new tech gadgets hype, instead of revealing this at their E3 where it would have made their show there even more of a stinker than it was especially since they didn't have anything to counter the Scorpio megaton that MS had. It all makes sense now why they hid the PS4 Pro as long as possible and it really exposes how the PS4 Slim was done over night. They're releasing the Slim, PSVR, and Pro back to back over the shopping holidays and hope one or more will stick. For the gamers.

Well everything in real time graphics is smoke and mirrors, so I am not sure how that is bad. At the end of the day gamers with 4k TVs will get a 4K experience with the PS4 Pro.

I'm in regardless, and yes I have a Sony 65" 4K that is ready. I'll looking for another one too.

Well MS had an abortion of a reveal and had to shitcan their WHOLE vision of the X1 and try to react to what SONY, current gen 8 console leader is doing. This seems like a utopia launch compared to that, the biggest disaster in modern day gaming hardware reveal.

They had to change the whole thing...

Only good thing that came out of it for MS it they had to shitcan Kinect(lol). Even the 1S needs a special adapter for it, shows how much MS's cares about that 500 million dollar R&D, only to try and sneak in DRM and stop used game sales...for the gamers.

According to cows it isnt selling anyway...........so if true...........why would it matter??

If PS4 Pro wont split the base..........why assume Scorpio will when you dont even know anything about it? MS and Sony are taking the exact same route, Scorpio just has more juice.

Itll still play Xbox One games.

You make it seem like an entirely different console with vastly different architecture.

Anyone defending PS pro and Sony right now need to understand the X1 S has 4k capabilities, and PS pro doesn't. The X1 S isn't even the Scorpio! And it's doing things the PS pro can't! That is unacceptable. Sony dropped the ball.

@emgesp: This is the only way Sony could implement this without fracturing the user base. Scorpio is gonna split the Xbox One community right in half.

According to cows it isnt selling anyway...........so if true...........why would it matter??

If PS4 Pro wont split the base..........why assume Scorpio will when you dont even know anything about it?

Common sense: why release a beast if not to take advantage of the power? You'd better believe there will be Scorpio "exclusives" that won't work on original Xbox One systems.

I'm in regardless, and yes I have a Sony 65" 4K that is ready. I'll looking for another one too.

I spotted the LG 65" OLED and I want it really bad but at a 4K TV priced at 4K is not pushing me towards a purchase.

Anyone defending PS pro and Sony right now need to understand the X1 S has 4k capabilities, and PS pro doesn't. The X1 S isn't even the Scorpio! And it's doing things the PS pro can't! That is unacceptable. Sony dropped the ball.

A new Netflix app will be available at launch specifically for PS4 Pro, with over 600 hours of 4K content, so you can binge-watch your favorite shows in higher resolution than ever.

They showed off some breathtaking footage of several games such as Spiderman, For Honor, Watch Dogs 2, and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided running in 4K. They also displayed some comparison footage of games in the standard color palette versus HDR, and the contrast is astounding.

Thank you GODNY, we are ALL humbled by your greatness and commitment to world class gaming.
