@_Matt_: I'm pretty sure the math is wrong there, It surely increases exponentially. A car moving at 10 mph and a car at 15 mph is mild difference, but I car at 40 mph and the next at 60mph is hugely different
there is nothing wrong with the maths. 40% is 40%. It means the visible differences between the PS4 Pro and the Scorpio will end up being very similar to the differences between XBO and PS4, regardless of the resolution.

All you really need is one of the parts to not go down in price as much as you're expecting a boom. Your target price goes right out of the window. Plus, the specs themselves may change until they release the thing.
I think the bigger damage will be how long the PS4 Pro, if as successful as the PS4, is alone in the market. The NX, in theory, should go for a different audience and the XB1S is just a very slightly upclocked XB1. The differences will be a lot bigger during this time slot, much more than the comparisons we saw when both consoles launched.

I have a 4K TV so I want a 4K bluray player, I get what you mean about constantly upgrading versions though. I don't know how much more it would have cost them to put one in there I mean the Xbox One S has one and that's cheap as chips. I think the 1tb HDD was definitely to keep the costs down I'm sure everyone expected 2tb.
They've really cocked up with this mid life refresh in my eyes, I don't think it'll effect sales but purely from a consumer point of view it's not very friendly and inviting. You've got a pointless iteration out now with no price drop (in the UK anyway, I can already get a PS4 for £250) and then a more expensive console two months later touting 4K + HDR but no 4K disk drive?! Plus we all know it'll be upscaling to 4K so whilst that'll look better it's basically just a more powerful PS4 but not powerful enough that any of the footage really wowed me. As someone that doesn't currently own a PS4, it just makes me think I might as well get an original console for £50 off in a month when they start clearing stocks.

I do catch your drift, sir; but it still remains at 40%. Like the PS4 Xbox One gap, I highly doubt that will ever translate to anything more than a slight reoslution bump between console versions of multi platform games for example. And at higher resolutions, diminishing returns become more of a thing (as the human eye becomes less and less proficient at telling the pixels apart)

i remember reading on AVS about the difference between BD and UDHBD and the laser was the only difference with HVEC....it was so minimal in price differential

When I upgrade my PC its because I need to play new games (usually a Total War game :P), not so I can get a few extra pixels out of it and esp not so I can re-play a game that I played already at a higher setting. The difference between playing on PS4 vs PS4 pro is like medium and high.

Dedicated apps I don't see the point. My TV has its own native apps for Netflix and Youtube so no need to have a console running in the background as well when I'm watching stuff.
There is no way the Pro runs games at 4K or they would have listed specs so I'm thinking now the only real advantage is true 1080p 60fps gaming and a few tweaks here and there for various titles. Not to be sniffed at of course but I think people were expecting more. No UHD player is a let down for me.

Overall not sure who they are marketing too. I can see the Pro doing ok for a year 399 is a good price point for the power advantage it'll have over the PS4, Slim, XB1, and XB1S but after that not so much. I can't see why anyone would want a slim, especially if you have a PS4 already. As an owner of both personally, I don't see any reason to upgrade to a slim (XB or PS4) even though I do have 4k TVs. I'll just wait for the scorpio.
Hardware-wise, I thought it was a great reveal - the price for the specs was surprising and impressive. I also thought the free-HDR-upgrade for all PS4s was a good gesture and a total surprise (I imagine MS will have to follow suit now).
On the showmanship end, the actual show was snoozy, though - totally agree about Cerny's presentation style being reminiscent of Bob Ross.
