Confirmed: PS4 Pro does NOT support 4K Blu-ray ? #PlayStationMeeting
— Stuff.tv (@StuffTV) September 7, 2016
No 4K Blu-ray Player.
bummer the neo is only upscaling games to 4k tho.
What!?!? It's not native like the Scorpio? Why doesn't it have a real 4K Blu-Ray player in it? The XB1 upscales to 4K too and has a 4K Blu-Ray. None of the PS4 Pro games will be native 4K. Everything will be upscaled. Yikes. What happened with PSVR? They didn't mention anything about PSVR hardware or it's price? I missed the first 20mins of the show. Some said they only talked about PS4 Slim though.
@emgesp: Question is:
With the PS4 Pro having almost a full year (presumably) for itself will the the Scorpio have any court to play in? Unless the NX is some kind of smash hit that steals sales from the Sony and MS camps, the Scorpio may be too little too late... time will tell I guess.
If Microsoft is smart they will price it competitively with the PS4 Pro. Microsoft is probably keeping in consideration that Sony could easily drop the price of the PS4 Pro around the time Scorpio launches, so it would be in Microsoft's best interest not to be $100+ more expensive than the PS4 Pro.
@quadknight: Here's what I don't get, why day 1? What are you going to get that makes it worthwhile?
Uncharted 4 with better graphics sold me on it :D.
That and the bigger harddrive. I was gonna upgrade my OG PS4 harddrive but the sweet price of $399 with more powerful PS4 sounds even better.
I hadBto leave, on my mobile. How'd the rest of conference go? There was an awful lot of fluff talking to us like children about what HDR and higher solution means.
The plus from the conference, cheap price of Pro. The negative, no specs on hardware. I had heard they had been debating two different GPUs for PS4 Pro but they must have gone cheaper. Curious too about recent rumors of upgradable GPU to future proof the console. That might be better way to go to keep it accessible in price but not resign it to being leapfrogged down the line.
I'm personally a little PO'd by this though, mistly by circumstance, haven't even had my PS4 a year, got it because Persona 5 was supposed to come out in early 2016, it didn't, and if I'd known this was coming would have waited.
Why in the blue hell didn't they just call it Ps4k?
Because that's a stupid name.
Pro sounds more professional :D

Why drop $400 for slightly better graphics for a game you've already played? I'll be interested to see how the neo/slim sell, not convinced there's a huge market for them, but we will see. Not convinced naming it the "PS4 pro" is going to convince the wider audience that there is need to jump from the old PS4.
@n64dd: Slower than DVD, but not nearly as slow as UHD Blu-ray.
That's because UHD isn't really a thing yet. There aren't that many UHD discs around it's still new. Most people don't even have a 4K TV yet ffs.

You can put a 2 tb drive into a ps4 OG for next to nothing.

I'll trade in my OG PS4 for it so it won't cost me $400 for it.
It's no different than getting a slim but instead you get more power. Sounds good to me.

I can sell my regular PS4 and use the difference to upgrade for peanuts too.

Go Pro or go home. :P
@NFJSupreme: It won't be $500. Think about it man. Microsoft is losing this generation by a fudge ton and you think that their answer to become competitive again is to release a more powerful console a full year after the PS4 Pro that is $100 - $150 more expensive? No, that isn't going to happen. History has shown $500+ consoles don't sell, they never have and they never will.
Why in the blue hell didn't they just call it Ps4k?
Probably because it can't do native 4K and doesn't come with a 4K Blu-Ray player. I would assume that was the reason. They didn't want to LIE to consumers again.

That's a stupid answer. lol!! There's no true 4K in the PS4 Pro, that's why they changed the name. Continue with your meltdown Mr. Day One. lol!!

Ermmmm because its his money and he wants too?
just sell your xb1/xb1s/ps4 and buy a NEO its the only console we need for console exclusives and maybe grab a PC on the side
I don't watch 4k dvd's i mostly stream all my shows and movies now i dunno who still uses discs i dunno anyone.
I have to admit I've gone off the idea of the Pro a bit if it has no 4K bluray player. Also it's quite big, will it be noisy as **** like the standard PS4? Any why haven't they given us the specs what are they hiding? I'm a bit underwhelmed tbh, thought it sounded like a bargain at that price but not so sure now.
Smart move by Sony. 400 dollar price point and november launch date was an excellent decision. Even if the Scorpio is more powerful, Multiplats will largely run similarly yet PS4 will have world class exclusives, the largest install base, and likely a good price drop on VR and PS Pro by the time Scorpio launches a year later. Slightly more power doesnt win generations children: having enticing exclusives, a larger market share, and a solid price does.

i said it wont be more than that. they are over a year out and i bet a lot of their effort right now is in getting the cost down
That conference was awful.
The console however was cool, and releasing November is smart.
this conference was boring as hell. No interest in the pro and that meager price drop on the slim model is a joke. No specs given other than the gpu is based on the Polaris architecture which means the leap isn't that great. Design of the system seems to be keeping with the style of the original Ps4 which is ok but I expected a better design as this seems lazy. Oh well not interested in the pro model. My original ps4 will still play all the same games. For those that haven't jumped in yet, well this is the best time to pull the trigger.
boring conference but the pro looks promising especially at that price, even if you have a 1080p tv.
Aye agreed.
From what they said, it does sound like the rumoured specs of PS4 Pro to be 4.2TF.
While TF is nowhere near the full picture, this actually puts the known power difference between the PS4 Pro and the Xbox Scorpio almost identical to the difference between the PS4 OG and the Xbox One percentages wise. I think a lot of people do not realise that, when they say that the Scorpio is far more powerful.
@NFJSupreme: It won't be $500. Think about it man. Microsoft is losing this generation by a fudge ton and you think that their logic is to release a more powerful console a year after the PS4 Pro that is $100 - $150 more expensive? No, that isn't going to happen. History has shown $500+ consoles don't sell, they never have and they never will.
I get the logic behind this, but they may not be in a position to go for blood when the time comes. The Xbox brand has lost them quite a bit of money, something that has caused some internal turmoil. They may not be able to sell at a loss, should they need to (to match prices). And while we may speculate that their targeted hardware MAY fall in line (regarding price) for their release date, it also may not. The GPU alone should, yes, but when you start adding the CPU+RAM+custom heatsinks & cooling solutions...well... things get tricky.
On the other hand the XB1S is a great product and shows MS can make quality hardware when they want to.
At worst (in terms of max price) I'm expecting $499 for the Scorpio. The ideal mark however is indeed $399 or even lower. We'll have to wait and see.
Right now, the PS4 Pro is not for me. Gonna wait on the NX before I make any decision.
Why drop $400 for slightly better graphics for a game you've already played?
Do you want the matrix Neo answer blue? Lol ?
Because I choose to.:P

I don't watch 4k dvd's i mostly stream all my shows and movies now i dunno who still uses discs i dunno anyone.
That would be one of the stupidest things to do in the history of doing "stupid things". lol!! Millions of people still buy Blu-Ray discs especially for all the bonus material that are on Blu-Ray. You don't get any bonus stuff when you stream movies.
Where are the "specs" for this beast of a system? Digital Foundry doesn't have a leaked system yet with official specs?
Horizon looked really good on the PS4Pro.
Yea, not sure about the gameplay yet, but by god it looks fantastic.
@quadknight: Here's what I don't get, why day 1? What are you going to get that makes it worthwhile?
That's a dumb question really, so I'll rephrase what you asked by saying, why upgrade any rig when a new GPU comes out day 1? What are you going to get that makes it worthwhile?
Man, I feel for the Lemits. First Microsoft screws them by releasing a more improved Xbone S that's cheaper then the launch one. Then Sony destroys their soul with the "pro". Man oh man it sucks being a Lemit.
Horizon looked really good on the PS4Pro.
Yea, not sure about the gameplay yet, but by god it looks fantastic.
Yes, that's a fact. Always thought the game looked incredible. Crossing my finger it plays as good as it looks. Already got mine pre-ordered. Gotta pre-order Days Gone.
Sony usually leads the way when it comes to support new media format in their consoles but this meeting shows how far they fell and they're not in a position to introduce a 4k blu-ray player in their new PS4 Pro.
Once again, there's more questions than answers after a Sony showing. Still waiting on real specs on the Pro, does it support external hard drives for games, what ports are included, what did they gut out, what was added, what's up with the new PS camera and new Move peripherals... It's like Sony is hiding these info but still expect their consumers to bite. What company does that.
@blackace: Sounds like you're the only one damage controlling here with your tears. Xbone is even more obsolete now.
PS4 Pro + PC FTW! Cry more lem tears.
No exclusives for your FlopBox Scorpio renders it obsolete too.

Streaming is still nowhere near bluray quality yet either. Not to mention the blurays I have that I'll keep forever that may never be streamed (All the Hellraisers, Saw etc). Also I have a 4K TV and watch 4K streams on Netflix and they look about bluray quality lol.
All sorts of weirdness attached to all of this still.
I am just wondering what is the point of Neo. Sure you will get a slight upgrade in graphics but is that worth $100 more? It is even missing stuff that Xbox Slim has and that is $100 cheaper.
@quadknight: Here's what I don't get, why day 1? What are you going to get that makes it worthwhile?
Uncharted 4 with better graphics sold me on it :D.

LMAO, the salt is really showing off in your post here as a self proclaimed PC GAMER!
"Why drop $400 for slightly better graphics for a game you've already played....." Said the so-called PC gamer...LMAO EPIC FAIL!
@Desmonic: Its not really Microsoft's choice. If they want to stay competitive they can't be $100+ more expensive than the PS4 Pro. Think about how many potential PS4 Pros will be sold by the time Scorpio releases and again Sony could easily drop the price to $349.99 to really hurt Scorpio sales.
Closing my eye's and listening to Cerny is very soothing, very Bob Ross nappy time. It's like listening to your kind aunt Linda talk tech as you drift off to neverland.
That guy looks like the guy from Saturday Night Live. Dana carvey. You know that guy that say's Isn't that Special dressed up like an old woman.
