@emgesp: This is the only way Sony could implement this without fracturing the user base. Scorpio is gonna split the Xbox One community right in half.

According to cows it isnt selling anyway...........so if true...........why would it matter??

If PS4 Pro wont split the base..........why assume Scorpio will when you dont even know anything about it?

Common sense: why release a beast if not to take advantage of the power? You'd better believe there will be Scorpio "exclusives" that won't work on original Xbox One systems.

I could argue the same for PS4. Its twice the power of regular PS4.

You guys are tough to have a civil debate with, always with a moving target.

I was under the impression that Scorpio was gonna be like 10 teraflops compared to the Pro's 4.2, or something like that? Also labelled by Microsoft as a "premium" product which means well over $500?

That means a big difference between enhancing a current product and making something significantly different.

@Heil68: As you seen with Major Nelsons jab pretty much mirrored what I was saying. I really don't get why Sony left out that stuff.

Scorpio is 6+ TF, and the goal is the same as Pro.........its just more capable.

Pro will get exclusive games just like Scorpio will. Of course Sony and MS wont say that now.

Why give twice the power just to upscale current games?

Thats poor investment.

Sony and MS are on the same path, MS just got the upper hand this time.............as sony did this gen

People should just accept it and move on

@Heil68: And it's all for our amusement, free of charge. Let them battle it out and we'll reap the rewards.

It would be an interesting battle Royale if Nintendo was also in the mix. Maybe later with the NX. At the end of the day there is still great interest in the console and gaming space in general, that's the silver lining for me.

For all of you crying about no 4k bluray, Sony did not include one because that would just jack up the price. The Pro is made for gaming, straight up. At $399, it's a damn good buy, too. Smoke and mirrors indeed, but those graphics look AWESOME. Clean and crisp and beautiful.

@navyguy21: Who are you to tell people what is or is not a "poor investment" ? My needs and desires are not yours, and vice-versa. No one is disputing Scorpio will be more powerful, but the question is: who cares?

I'd imagine library is a much more important factor in deciding which system to go with, and if power and features are the be-all, end-all of the discussion go with a gaming PC.

Pro is gonna sell circles around Scorpio and have better games..

Why? Why buy the Pro now when it would offer very little this year at a premium (still great) price?

@Heil68: Today's announcements are making me consider getting the PS4 pro eventually because the price is not too high and I will have the XOne S for the HD Blue Ray, so I don't care that the PS4 Pro does not have a 4K blue ray that is fine for me, I don't need 2 and I will have 2 eventually anyways because I'm also getting the Scorpio next year.

Xbox One S is the better value along with Scorpio next year ( Probably September 2017) XBO S already has HDR WITH 4k blu ray player, Gorgeous console along with GAMES!!!. PS4 slim? UGLY Sandwich. NO games, NO 4k blu ray player & $299 LOL. PS4 Pro Double Decker Sandwich? NO 4k blu ray player, WEAKER then Scorpio, & NO games.

Xbox One S & Scorpio are the perfect consoles. Sony only showed Multiplats like Call of duty which is lololol. No amount of upgrade can save it from being ugly. Wheres the last guardian lol? Xbox is the way to go this gen. It has EVERYTHING u need & More

The Xbox One S has clean and crisp and beautiful graphics that are also upscaled to 4K with HDR, and also includes an UHD bluray drive for $100 less than the PS4 Pro.. From a marketing standpoint, that's all that matters.. Sony dropped the ball and didn't include a hardware feature that's not only expected from a "4K" console but also a feature that's available from the direct competition for a lower price..

I predicted the price, I think it's a missed opportunity for Sony by having the slim out there. They should have kept original ps4 design and just stealthily put a new model of it. Market this pro shit against Xbox one slim for that price. Now they can't escape the Scorpio lol. Holly **** what is Sony doing lately.

that's a fair question..

another fair question is why would anyone with a 4KTV spend $100 more on a PS4 Pro that doesn't come with an UHD Bluray drive when they can buy a Xbox One S for $299?..

I'm hoping it will play older games better and maybe, just maybe Horizon which is released in February will take advantage of it. Then there is the fact I like new tech and it comes with a bigger hard drive to boot.

I agree there wont be any games that directly take advantage of the extra hardware, but I feel it will be out starting early next year.

If I can trade mine in for $150, it wouldnt be that bad for the upgrade.

Well PS4 has more games, exclusives and better multi plats than MS/X1, not to mention MS dropped exclusives and hasn't had a AAAE since 2013 and never has had a AAAAE 10/10 excluive, thus PS4 is the current gen 8 console leader with over 900+ world class games to play.

Even with a half baked 4k capability, even the ps4 pro will at least have exclusive games. The XBone isnt in the same league as that, sadly.

I'm so disappointed and confused with this reveal...it didn't gave me a reason to get a PS4 Pro over the Slim model...hell, they didn't even gave me a reason to get a Pro over the original PS4...such a failure from Sony on this one.

They sacrificed something crucial to a 4K experience to hit a price point, it's understandable, but it really caught me off guard how much of a poor move that was.

They just gave Microsoft the golden ticket... They're not only going to have a more powerful true 4K system, they'll also have 4K Blu-Ray on lock while Sony is getting left behind.

@quadknight: I would say that's up for debtate and people could still get the 500GB version if they wanted...I just found the timing of the tweet amusing and how he mentioned 4K Blue ray + the other stuff. You don't see this kind of Corporate theatrics often.

Nope. Sony was going for 4k affordability. And they've achieved that. Those games running on the Pro looked awesome. You gotta admit it, dude. For $399 this is a great deal.

I'm not saying it's not a great deal, I just got home from work so I haven't looked at this stuff yet, but to hit their price they sacrificed too much.

Well, I don't see it that way (the whole golden ticket thing). Games on the Pro on a 4k TV are going to look exactly like games on the Scorpio on a 4k TV. And the Pro's coming around a whole lot sooner, and will be much, much cheaper to boot.

What if some developers start using UHD discs for their games? Sony and their PS4s, all of them will be SOL.

Did they really not put a 4K Blu-Ray drive in this thing... What in the **** were they thinking...

"Let's make a powerful, affordable 4k option that puts gaming first."

That's what they were thinking.

Well, I don't see it that way (the whole golden ticket thing). Games on the Pro on a 4k TV are going to look exactly like games on the Scorpio on a 4k TV. And the Pro's coming around a whole lot sooner, and will be much, much cheaper to boot.

No they won't... How are you coming to that conclusion? The Pro will not be able to handle 4K, Scorpio will.

Give me a break, dude. The Pro is WAY more powerful than the XB1 S. You're not even trying here.

That may be, however he's right, that was a really bad move on their part...

They just sacrificed watching movies in 4k. The Pro is for gamers that want to play games. That's the whole point.

Don't give me that shit, this is such a naive comment, that's a large loss for a lot of people and will force them to buy another device for 4K Blu-Ray, likely to the point that they skip this...

Want 4k Streaming & Blu-Ray + HDR gaming ? The Xbox One S 2TB Console is shipping now https://t.co/zjNOXv75dp https://t.co/6vM5O3ndph

Why would anyone spend $399 on an Xbone Slim after today's announcement lol?

that's a fair question..

another fair question is why would anyone with a 4KTV spend $100 more on a PS4 Pro that doesn't come with an UHD Bluray drive when they can buy a Xbox One S for $299?..

Because people do not buy physical medium for movies anymore.

I actually want to agree with you on that because i'm one of the people that has gone all digital for my games this gen (and i'm loving it).. but the reality is that many people (likely the majority of people) still prefer physical media for their games and movies.. and even as a fan of digital-only, I simply wouldn't buy a 4K console/mediaplayer for my potentially super-expensive 4KTV that doesn't support UHD Bluray discs.. that's may just be me personally, but not having the option to play a UHD bluray movie on my new $400 "4K" console seems like a step backwards (much like not having the option to play a standard bluray movie on my current console would seem backwards).. especially if it means I would have to spend another $300+ on a dedicated UHD player..

And again, it baffles me as to why Sony would concede such an obvious advantage as we move beyond 1080p into the 4K generation.. to call this anything other than a total f*** up by Sony is lunacy..

Algorithms. Yes, it is smoke and mirrors. But I guarantee games on both consoles will look identical.

Anyway. Got some nachos to eat, brother. Peace.

Yup. Sony is LARGE and in CHARGE this gen. A 4k blue Ray player will not close the almost 2:1 sales advanatge. SONY retains current gen 8 console leader.

Don't forget, downloading movies and games take too long if you don't have fast internet connections. I like having both physical and digital media as options instead of compromising as all just digital.

Native 4K will always look better than a sub-native resolution upscaled, they will be close, but not identical.

It will be the same situation as the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 currently, only on a higher scale.

Again, it's 4k gaming (with algorithms, albeit) at an affordable price. Just like PSVR is VR at an affordable price. That is Sony's angle. MS is taking the "premium" approach--nothing wrong there, but it is a different angle. To each their own.

Ehhh, I don't know about that. I guess we'll have to look at digital foundry or something. I have a hunch them graphics is gonna look miiiighty similar though.

No need, the only reason PS4 games even come close to filling BluRay discs is not compressing anything. By the same logic most PC gamers would be screwed no? And anyone downloading games? They'd be stuck with 100GB downloads which would cripple anyone with a data cap or below average internet speed.

What do you mean you don't know about that? The PlayStation 4 is 40% more powerful than the Xbox One, Scorpio is like 42% more powerful than the Pro, it's going to be the same situation in reverse and for a higher resolution.

Most stuff on Scorpio will be native 4K, and most stuff on the Pro will be sub-native with some crossover for certain games.
