I hate the controls, thats all I have to say. Customizing each button's action should be every game's standard nowadays, but oh well...

Exactly. They made the chainsaw man dumb as hell too. It takes him years just to swing that chainsaw. Dr. Salvador in RE4 never gave you that much breathing room.

I didn't play the shanty town level again after getting killed from the chainsaw guy by accident, I was running away and I was going to look behind me and I was not used to the controller at the time, so accidently I ran through him like a mad man then BAM face to face with him lol.

The thing that made me go face to face with chainsaw guy is the turning around controls, I can't turn around quickly.

but I noticed some of what you said with the axe guy.

It is better to make it believable than dumb, I mean when the first teaser trailer came out, we saw shadows of running zombies, it gave me a feeling that it would be the scariest RE ever, now I see this happening, I hope they improving the ai with the full game.

And ask yourself this question, why did they make zombies run in the first place then? I don't think the purpose of zombies running at me is just to make a false alarm.

i dunno what to say to people the derive a feeling of tension & suspense from a convoluted and frustrating control system. then again, i dunno what to say to people that laugh at others opinions. so lets leave it at that then.

it's poor & lazy design. end of story. they should focus more on creating a compelling & tense & suspenseful game through the actual gameplay, not through frustration guised as tension via a stupid 3 button inventory swap system. almost as lame & lazy as overusing quick-time events in games.

i think he might be right. current hype is around AAA, right? i've seen enough complaints about the controls in the gaming media on various sites to come to the conclusion that it might get an 8.5 or 8.0 because of it.

Everyone: You DO know you can switch weapons with the D-Pad, right? You can also re-arrange items in your inventory with X (or square).

It seems like people are exaggerating how bad the inventory system is. It's not terrible; it works. The demo was great, and if the game offers more of it I'm more than happy. From the demo, RE5 is better than RE4 in some parts, and worse in other parts. It makes me angry seeing how people won't buy this game and say it will flop. Even if it doesn't compare to RE4, it's still a solid game.

Aha, you know that the old inventory system system cant work if theres coop online? I dont see how it's a frustrating control system? Maybe you want to start rolling away, take cover and shoot from there? Then RE ain't your game. Also lol at how a 10 minutes demo of a non-final build is making you all claim the game is broken.

It's the same as RE4... you just lack the easy escape menu button to choose anything that will blow every plague next to you. I'm pretty sure the AI will be more crazed on the higher settings. If the chainsaw guy is that slow it's because the inventory system would be impossible to open otherwise. I'm sure at the hardest difficulty you wont have time to blink.

never played games using online co-op. in the final version of this game, can you save your game on co-op and stop playing, and then pick up where you left off with some new partner? also, can you skip cutscenes because i do not want a partner to skip them.

Yes but the save system hasn't been explained fully yet since there are no type writer's. You can drop in and out of co-op and if someone leaves your co-op game The ai will replace the human. You can skip cutscenes yes but both partners have to want to skip them

I almost cried the first time I saw the controls, and the tutorial was non-existant, but I got used to the controls eventually. I hate having to re-arrange things Gears-style (handgun on the bottom, main gun on the right) every time. :x I find Sheva competent, and she never takes ammo unless I tell her to. She sure was better than some peple I have met online.:P

And she does take ammo, just not ammo that is in your direct path.

Or the ones that wont give me my rifle ammo. Or they stand there after the combination jump not knowing what to do. Its like: Di they play the demo first? Or just jump right into co-op? Someone didnt even know how to run, if you can believe it.

please spare me the assumptions and 'ain't your game' stuff. i'm a big fan of the series. played. them. all. i just wish they'd make the choice to evolve and improve the gameplay to make it more tense / suspenseful as opposed to maintaining outdated frustrating control schemes as an alternative. simple stuff.

When I play single player, I dread having Sheva along. It's not like she can't handle her health that well... It's her over-use of bullets. She uses bullets and hits guys in the arm and such. She uses sometimes four on one guy. I usually use one or zero. I shoot them in the head, and then I smack them with my fist. Sometimes, they swing at me, I back away, and then come running back with my machete. When I have 60 bullets left in my handgun, she has zero in both guns she has! I always have to give her some so she doesn't die, and she just wasts it. That's my only problem. Also, is there any different between the PS3 version and the 360 version? I heard the latter has better graphics, but I've also heard that's only in the demo, and that the final game will be equal. What's the deal on this?

of course it works.

it just servers a purpose that i find incredibly annoying. it's used as a stop-gap to create suspense / tension because it doesn't exist in the game outside of it. how challenging would RE be if you had the control over your character that you have in Gears? or Resistance? or Uncharted? you would absolutely wipe the floor with them.

it's as if my character in RE5 is an arthritic old man that can't remember where which holster his gun is in, but the model shows what appears to be a healthy and alert individual that has no issues firing his weapon, or with melee. all i can peg it down to is Capcom caving to hardcore fans that think outdated control schemes are 'l33t' or critical to the series, or them being lazy and not wanting to create the tension / suspense through improvements to the enemy AI, enemy types, etc.

When I play single player, I dread having Sheva along. It's not like she can't handle her health that well... It's her over-use of bullets. She uses bullets and hits guys in the arm and such. She uses sometimes four on one guy. I usually use one or zero. I shoot them in the head, and then I smack them with my fist. Sometimes, they swing at me, I back away, and then come running back with my machete. When I have 60 bullets left in my handgun, she has zero in both guns she has! fixed it for ya. I Played both, it's like DMC 4 their both equal

360 definitely has better graphics based on the demo.. there are comparisons out there if you care to check. texture quality definitely is better on the 360 from what i saw earlier today.. nothing crazy, but it's there for sure.

if you have access to both versions why not post some pictures? but the gaf thread i saw, and another somewhere else, showed better textures on 360.

Ya I played both, I judged, they both look the same.

It what I see counts, zooming in a 100 times to see an extra wrinkle is nitpicking, and have you seen the gametrailers comparison

Some of the textures look a bit sharper on X360, but it's really hard to see the difference while playing. However the X360 has screen tearing while the PS3 does not.

That's what I read too. The PS3 demo is the same shown at some gameshow last year. The retail should be a bit more polished.

The "official discussion threads" are getting kinda short, lately.

On topic, the game needs:

1) less Shiva.

2) a better inventory system.

3) yes, it needs shoot-&-run.

4) a bigger gun. It looks like a water gun.

5) more black enemies (it is Africa, right?)

6) a chainsaw enemy that kills you on contact

7) the walking/running/turning around/aiming mechanics need improvements

1. Yes and no... co-op with a human buddy is just pure awesome, computer shiva definately requires too much babysitting tho. Overall I'd say keep it the way it is.

2. Eh, realtime inventory does build the panic ALOT more. I remember in RE4 if I was getting swarmed I would just turn on the inventory take a breather and then whip out a nade and pwn em XD.

3. Heck no... this is not gears of war. Throw out all the stuff people say about it building the atmosphere and making the game tense(although its true, the controls do this). The fact of the matter is, if you make RE5 run and gun the game becames WAY TOO EASY. Your enemies sure don't have guns; there is a couple of guys with crossbows but the majority are mindless shambling morons. If you could run and gun all that happens is you just constantly move backwards as you own everything coming towards you. RE5 controls are great the way they are now; they're perfect for the survival horror and they maintain a level of difficulty in the game.

4. Maybe Chris' arms are just too big :P... makes everything else look smaller.

5. Can't argue with this one, although I don't really notice once I actually get in the game.

6. The chainsaw guy sure kills me in one hit on contact...

7. I think the mechanics are fine atm. The quick turn works wonders(just like it did in RE4). Holding a button and then running is easy to navigate... even more than walking IMO.

the controls suck. If i was a professionally trained officer, cop, or whatever this guy is, wouldn't i be able to run and shoot at the same time. Plus there are zombies coming after you wouldn't anyone run away from them. Why would anyone stop and shoot?

RE 4 just did it right(same with Gears of War with the cover system). RE 4 is more of an influential game than a revolutionary game, but that is my opinion.

What about the system of both needing to apply to do? (Lol at Gears of War buddy system? ) RE4's over the shoulder left side of the screen behind view stance (almost like a FPS) was unique to RE4. While the over the shoulder camera was seen in Splinter Cell, SC was a traditional 3rd person shooter, only when aiming it would go over the shoulder. RE4's perspective was leon being on more on the left side of the screen from the waist camera always being behind him. It was a unique combinations that inspired many games this generation, Hell gamespot said it was unique at the time...which it was.

Exactly. They made the chainsaw man dumb as hell too. It takes him years just to swing that chainsaw. Dr. Salvador in RE4 never gave you that much breathing room.

oh really? when his running up to you (close range), reload your sniper or weapon and see if you get away with it his done that way to give the player an excape window or to have help from your partner...what good is it if he just runs to you and cuts your head of that quick? would make it dam hard considering it takes quite a few shots to drop him...this way its well balanced.
